  1. I am not boasting but that occurred to me too. But... Dickey threw 78 pitches. which precludes him I reckon. Gibbons does have to at least consider what happens if the Jays win today- because they will have games Friday and Saturday in the ALCS. The only starting rotation he has possible for those two are Estrada on normal rest followed by Dickey on short rest. Then he wouldd have both Price and Stroman available on normal rest for games 3 and 4. Not a bad situation overall. He will stick with Stroman until he cannot, horpefully to the point where he can use Sanchez late, then Osuna. If Stroman fades, we might see Sanchez in early for 2 or three innings, then whomever until Osuna. He took Dickey out for the reasons he said: with Choo and Beltre coming up both of them had 2 hits already aginst Dickey and strong career numbers. He had already decided not to start Price in Game 5, so might as well get some use out of him in long relief.
  2. Estrada is on 2 days rest after 90 pitches on Sunday. Maybe an inning, no more. Go Stroman! If Loup is not back tonight they have zero lefties.
  3. I am not ignoring Hendricks, it is that their pen is very thin on quality now for long relief. Correction, they don't have anybody reliable for long relief. Price had 50 pitches yesterday, we won't see him again in this series. I hope he catches more Jays home run balls in the bullpen. None of their starters are available for long relief. They really need Stroman to go at least 6. Loup has been awful this year, which is why he has hardly played at all since August. The Jays need to be calm and cool, block out the crowd as best they can, and get it done. One of the best Jays moments this season was the Dickey interview after the game, with Price beside him. It looked to be entirely sincere, and defined the word 'class'. Very refreshing in a world of privileged athletes.

  5. Sicario Very good to excellent.
  6. We'd better hope that Stroman goes more than 6 innings. In Game 2 he allowed 4 earned runs vs 2 for Hamels, he'll have to reverse that trend. What a position for a player who was not really expected to play at all this year! I have no faith in anything beyond an inning each from Sanchez and Osuna. Hawkins, LOwe and especially Loup make my guts clench when they enter a game. The loss of Cecil is major. We really need to get a good lead early and force the Rangers into catchup. If we get on Hamels early, we will see Gallardo who has been tough to hit all year. A close game does not work in our favour, and we don't really have any long relief options.
  7. bottom of the ninth, Colabello gets a single with nobody out. Pompey is brought in to run. Pompey stands at first while the Jays make 2 outs. Why bring him in to run, then not run him? Jays lose. Puzzling behaviour. But not really. Gibbons is in Full Cito Gaston Mode: Wait around for somebody to hit a 3 run homer, instead of Making It Happen, which is how Texas wins.
  8. Is there a thread yet on The One Accomplishment of Justin Trudeau?. OK, he did beat up that Senator.
  9. good catch there Argus.
  10. pitching pitching pitching...... now the Jays have to win three out of four.
  11. Well no. The other signatories would not wait for Ottawa to dick around indefinitely. The government of Canada is elected to govern, and voters expect them to do that no matter what their party affiliation. It is not a caretaker government, it is THE government until the electorate changes that situation. The NDP can review all they like if and when they get elected, prior to ratification votes on the TPP. Big blunder by Mulcair to reject this deal offhand. It plays well to some union people, but he must know he needs far more than that to form a government..
  12. Gibbons is loyal to his pals, to a fault. Both Loup and Delabar. Loup was really good last year, but was truly awful the last half of this year. 2-5, big ERA, big WHIP. He cannot get anybody out and has hardly played for a couple of months. He is about the last reliever I'd put in with the game on the line. It is the only choice I dispute for the roster.
  13. They need at least 2 starters by my count, and when did Osuna become a starter in any circumstances? I am a bit uneasy with him, he has been hit hard in nearly every relief appearance lately. The Rangers will not be a pushover, they and the Jays are the two hottest teams in the AL since the All Star break. I
  14. Huh? The NDP and Liberals refused to bring down Harper for 5 years of Tory minority. Yes, 5 years. How is it that they could not introduce and pass a motion of confidence in all that time, given that they had the votes in the Commons to do just that? And Harper did not destroy anybody, the Liberals have been very adept at shooting themselves. Chretien was a corrupt swine ousted by his own party. Martin reaped the whirlwind of that fiasco and became a latter day Mulroney. Dion and Ignatieff were just hopeless clowns , both elected hastily by their own parties and abandoned nearly as quickly. You have to have brain fever/Harper Derangement Syndrome to blame Mr Sweater Vest for all that.
  15. Playoff time and now the Jays will see some good pitching. Will we get good pitching? Here is hoping. For sure, some of the monster hitters will fade in the the playoffs, but the Jays have had production from so many players there is bound to be somebody on their game. That makes it hard on the opposition. Neither is a good option from the bullpen. Loup has hardly been used since August, because he played like shit and out of a job. If we have to take a second lefty, take Francis. But we don't have to... That was a sad end to Buerhles career with the Jays, let down by his team mates. I did at first not agree with the call to let him play Sunday, but now I think it was the right call. Did not work out, but the right call.. He has been making around $15 to $19m per year for quite a while. he won't get anywhere near that if anybody wants him. So the Jays starters at season end: Dickey: one year left for the 40 year old Buerhle: free agent Hutchison: cheap, tied up and playing poorly Estrada: free agent and will want big money and long term at age 32 Price: free agent and will want $25 to $30 milluion for 7 years Stroman: young, tied up and cheap and playing great. So we have Dickey, Stroman and Hutchison as starters for 2017. Can we sign some free agents? Players may want to play in Toronto. Will Rogers Corp open the vault? Not much left on the farm, AA shot the wad to get the team this far.
  16. And Ontario has a $400 billion DEBT. So much for having all that industry..... And cut the shit about Norway. Does Norway toss a big chunk of cash into an equalization scheme every year? Does Alberta have complete control of.... anything?
  17. To be fair, America puts far more effort into mandatory vehicle safety than into 'shooting kiddies' safety. Priorities and all that.
  18. Yep, me too on the removing emissions gear especially air pumps. I recall 'tuning' my brothers monster Oldsmobile by removing the hood, driving down the highway and fiddling with the distributor until it ran right under load. The factory timing settings, checked with a timing light, didn't mean much with the air pumps etc removed. Every mechanics top of the tool chest had a bunch of small pipe fitting plugs and rubber caps for the various disconnected ports and hoses. After plugging them all, we'd check for vacuum leaks with a can of starter fluid(aka 'rooster juice')- if the engine stumbled when you sp[rayed near a port, there was a leak.... Alberta does not have emissions testing, not for many many years. Cars may be cleaner than they used to be, but their overall fuel economy or more accurately overall consumption is not much better in the last 20 years.
  19. Yes, apparently it is since nobody is acting to slow down the body count. To be fair, adults are easier targets just by virtue of being larger.
  20. The guy with what looked like the worst hangover was Gibbons himself. His eyes looked like two peeholes in a snowbank... He was barely awake on the bench. Three pitchers we don't need to see until 2016 at the earliest: Loup, Delabar and Hutchison. Hopeless. The Jays have not played well in Tampa very often. Hope that changes. Home field through the WS is an advantage, and it makes plenty of $$$ for Rogers. Here is hoping Tulo gets back on the field now. The Jays are better with him for sure, he is a better fielder than anybody else down the middle. Even if he does not hit well he is likely better at the plate than Pennington, and is certainly better defensively. And here is somehting I never thought I'd say: we need Goins bat in the game. He is also our best 2nd baseman. The Jays are going to have a tough time next year figuring out what to do with Goins vs Travis..... I love our defence with Tulo in the game. But I still don't love the pitching........ And I don't agree with what Gibby said about starting Buerhle today and may again on Sunday(!). All to get him to 200 innings. Bah. We need to finish first overall, and finish strong, not give a senior a good sendoff. . The team has 3 days off before Thursday, why does Price need 11 days rest? And who pitches in the ALDS? Price, Stroman and Estrada are my picks. But it will likely be Price Dickey and Stroman in that order.
  21. We get the government we deserve.
  22. The 'program announcement' in China may actually support the premise presented that 'Humanity reacts when necessary, and never before.'. The air quality in Beijing and a few other places is close to lethal. Perhaps that is the necessity for action. And I don't believe a word the Chinese say in any case.
  23. Faulty premise. People are not created the same. The pack has aplha wolves.
  24. You better hope something comes along nationally that can replace the money Alberta has been pumping into the national economy. You know, from the resource revenue that actually is only 20% of the AB economy, yet an important part of the National economy. And lets cut all the bullshit about the NDP being some kind of saviour, and your ridiculous asinine statements like 'allowed the corruption, greed and avarice of the last 40 years'. Alberta has been funding Canada for a very long time, the health care system has the msot spent per capita of any province, the school system is good, the highways fine. The vulnerable ARE cared for, but not everybody lives forever. Big fail by the PCs, right? Why do you think that hundreds of thousands + of people flocked to this place? Why has the population nearly doubled in 30 years? Quality of like, that is whty. So cut the shit.
  25. Nah. Religion is about acceptance that God will provide. That does not mean that everything will be fine, people of faith are no more or less stupid than apostates. It also does not imply passivity in affecting outcomes. The faithful still plant crops in a drought. There are very few examples of 'prudence' in our human history, not on a global scale. For a couple of the countless examples, refer to both World Wars. We had a good idea what was about to occur, yet there were no intelligent steps taken to avert the apocalypse. We cannot even get people globally to agree on such prudent and simple no-brainers as universal vaccinations.....
