With Canada in need of Jobs, i would have thought that most Canadians would be happy....

At what piont do we say, we should limit immigration? without sounding racist, it seems to be a fine line. What if we as a nation wanted to fill that gap with increasing our own population growth, be by some other means like tax breaks or incentives etc....If more and more jobs and employment are being sucked to other nations, why are we bringing in more to feed that fire....I'm not sure as i don't fully understand the need for immigration... Is it because traditional Canadians are to proud to fill those jobs that immigrants take, that sounds like it has racist over tones does it not ? So with growing unemployment, why do we not limit immigration.... And while we don't want to hear those racists thoughts, i think that traditional white and north american natives should have a say on immigration or atleast a voice at the table....

Just a few days ago you wanted to free Khadr, here in Canada.... so why the double standard ?

When was the last time we tried anyone for terrorism or treason ? Omar was convicted of murder not terrorism, nor treason ? why is that....so really this has lost all it's shiny parts....what are we debating again.... Not sure how you get second class citizen, those indiv effected have 2 citizenships, they are in a sparate group on to themselfs, ist class citizens if you will .... perhaps you should be asking why they have this privilige to start with and not everyone else, simplify it and make it manatory to only have one citizenship , make them chose or stay home..want to go back to the home land then re apply...

Not sure what kind of lobby group you think the military has, shit we can't get the government to buy us the right equipment, let alone get them to take on the worlds governments on child soldiering. The people with the voice is the regular citizens of Canada that is where the power lays. And they have spoken with their silence....we have a perfect example in Khadrs mother, and we sit on it, rather turn away hoping that problem goes away.... Want to bring a voice to the table, lets show the world we are ready to take action, start with the khadrs, and the many other terrorists in our country....Canadians have always been quick to piont the finger, but never at themselfs....it's the soldiers fault for not saying anything....and yet soldiers have been saying it all along nobody gave a crap, how many stories have you read where soldiers have engaged in combat with children, and are now living with that nightmare....I say 'stand up and be counted" instead of pionting a finger do something about it....we soldiers have already done our part, time for the citizens of Canada to do theirs....

What i meant is Stop making it profitable for terrorists. If Khadr does sues and wins his case it will set a precedence for others, and there is a lot of them. Eyeball mentioned he hopes he wins and gets millions....while our troops can get only a max of 250 k for the worst injuries....

Many soldiers have done just that, but nothing has been done here in Canada or the world...The UN act to give them a free ride has done nothing to stop this situation, but rather increased the use of child soldiers by their twisted commanders in most countries, as they all know very little of them will be held accountable, and the children will be given a free ticket... In Afghan child soldiers are very common. how many posters here have brought that subject up, and in fact wanted Khadrs mother charged for aiding in this process. And yet they still ride our system for all it's worth, we have mr Crietien to thank for the Khadrs.

Why not, i mean Omar is not the only Candian to fight on behalf of the taliban, it will set a nice precedence....send a nice message to our troops as well....

Taliban only banned opium for one year, and the result of that ban drove up the price to unheard of levels, in fact production tripled the following year, and the taliban were still in charge. just goggle it , there are plenty of sources. It should also be noted that the taliban was taken bribes from growers not to have their crops destroyed, for the taliban it was a win win... It should also be noted today the taliban does not have to have control over the actual growing fees, they are well inbeded in the distribution chain, thats were the money is. they are buying the opium off the war loerds and growers and transporting it out of the region...

Must be a slow day in parliment if this is creating so much traction, for any party. I mean is this the best they can come up with what ever happened to the major problems or issues this nation faces, like health care, lack of health care workers, deficit reduction, or indian land claims, shit the list goes on and on....don't get me wrong it sounds like a great idea for all classes of consumers, but should it not be a filler attached to something bigger....on the same scale as uncoupling cable/sat tv programing...i guess my question is are we being distracted from the bigger issues with the small stuff?

This was not about Iraq, this was about Afghanistan, there are thousands of canadians that still believe the Afghan confict was about Oil, Pipelines and minerals.....and yet they can not explain that after more than 12 years of conflict why there is no OIL, no Pipelines, and no minerals...well the conflict is coming to a close and guess what still no frigging OIL, PIPELINES,and NO MINERALS....So what is corporate americas interest in Afghan....give me a source please.... Sorry, but not according to any sources i have found, he was sentenced to 8 years. which he will serve in a Canadian prison. There is no major oil reserve or pipe lines, being built, there is reportly a huge mineral deposit, but little to nothing has been done on extracting it...perhaps you can find a link on how corporate America and afghan is profiting on the war .

As far as i know Omar is now in a canadian prison, finishing off his time, he is being treated as any other canadian prisoner.....and yes the other countries were alot quicker at retrieving their citizens, so quick infact that some of them were re captured on the battlefield and did a second stint in gitmo....or were killed on the battle field.... But what of the other diplomatic stuff our government has done on young Omars behalf, like ensuring he did not recieve the death sentence that the US was talking about....that he would recieve a fair trial, that he was feed, his religion respected, and housed humanily.....Omar could have been handed over to the Afghan authorities, like the what happened to all those after Omar mess hit the media...Afghan prisons make gitmo look like disney world....

I don't remember saying that Omar should be strapped,or tortured....alot of his freedoms have been taken away, and in my opinion that is a punishment...he has commited a crime, the crime of murder, are you saying he should be exempt because of his age ? and why do we not exempt all youth offenders from the same crime ? Thats the problem with this post your assuming to much, Omar recieved 8 years for a sentence,( not counting his time served already) . And yes i do hope he spends all of those 8 years in prison, and as so far that is happening regardless.... According to military health care system my mental and physical health are above average, Omar imprisonment does not bother me in the least, i don't spend sleepless nights worring over yourg mr Khadr, who is locked up behind bars, getting a free education, food, the whole nine yards on our dime.....best $ 70,000 Canada spent in a long time.... What i've express here is my personal opinion, one that many Canadians share, some of you have twisted it into something else, because i don't have compasion for a 15 year old. Lets forget about who the real compasion should be reserved for..... Families of our soldiers who did not come back, our wounded soldiers, the families of our American comrads that Omar directly effected, who now live without a father, a bread winner....and how about the legitiment citizens of Afghan who omar help surpress....no i get it...those people don't deserve a mention, a second thought WHY ? we are more concerned about an enemy soldier who happened to be under age.... What is it that you see when you look at omar ? "Omar did not send me there" , If it had not been for Omar and thousands just like him , Canadian soldiers would not have deployed to Afghan. That is a fact....so he has played a role in that deployment... Which multinational corporate interests ? was it oil, what about that pipe line, or how about the billions in minerals, and in 3 tours i spent over there i did not see one oil well, no drilling, except for water....no pipe line....and no minning for minerals....so what interests....don't make this out to be something it is not.... I've been back for years and have learned to live with my losses just fine, military doctors say i'm as mental fit as the average Canadian....stop twisting this entire post into something it is not....it is not about me, it's about Omar and your misplaced compasion.

Thats my concern as well, but proably not for the same reasons. Lets call a spade a spade, DND is not organized, set up for, a major domestic disaster. we just happen to be one of the Depts that have the means to get mobile fast, and some of the equipment needed. The dept responable for this stuff is Federal emergancy response dept. and you'll have to check out their budget before asking any questions. Yes i went voluntarily, but once over there there was 3 ways to get back, complete the tour, in hand cuffs, or in a flag drapped coffin....but this is not about me, it is about a convicted terrorist, one that was given a sentence and his freedoms taken away. Part of the organization that roamed the country of afghanistan terrorizing Afghan people, the talibans hitmen, who killed thousands, anyone that stood up to the taliban... blowing up markets full of inocent people, stripping them of all their skin, staking them down in the hot sun to watch them bake...cutting of little girls hands for going to school, burning their faces with acid, exicuting their fathers and mothers for allowing them to go to school...raping and killing teachers, and many more sad tales....All real nice guys, the kind i want in my nieborhood, the kind i want walking around on my streets.... But what about the Afghan side, the people who Omars actions effected daily...they get no mention, nither does those that Omar murdered.....thats right murdered....gets no mention.....only the fluffy side of poor Omar....

Well lets use the data thats already out there, It has been argued that Convicts in our Canadian prisons, have nothing but time on their hands and learn how to be better at their craft, a sort of univerisity for criminals if you want. All you have to do is look at the numbers of criminals that have multi convictions return back 2 ,3,4 times over their life times...Omar was held in Gitmo for how long, surrounded by harden terrorists what exactly do you think he was learning...i bet it was not how to knit... This is not a finger pionting exericise, he is a war criminal, charged with murder...which in Canada carries a life sentence...tell me there has not been ANY minors placed behind bars charged with adult crimes. what gives him special status....I don't care how much it costs us, or if he becomes more dangerous ....the reason he is in there is he is being punished for his crimes, that is the whole purpose of our justice system. Yes they do, but just because they went to war does not excuse them for answering for their crimes....even 15 year olds....

I was refering to the military court and it's legitimacy as a court of law. As as far as i know Omar was not left swinging form any rafters, in fact none of the taliban or terrorists got a death sentence.

It's not work, i made a promise to a dying man, i'd like to keep it as long as i can, the other man was there when i made it, a long time friend. Is it clouding my judgement perhaps it is, i never met Omar or his family, but i have met his dozens of his comrads and they are all the same, extremists who would do anything to anyone just for shits and giggles... I have read serveral psychiatric reports on Omar, one is a glowing picture of a young man who likes long walks on the beach, reading etc etc.... if i may ask, if the only way out of prison was to lie and tell them exactly what they wanted to hear would you....remember he has been locked up for a long time. The other does not paint such a rosey picture...which one is it that we are to believe...it seems you have made your chioce and i have made mine.. As for his lawyers , thats what they are paid to do....it's part of their job. Supporters....it is a growing crowd, to say the least...but i don't think you'll find my name on that list anytime soon... As for my judgement, Omar was part of a group that wants total control over the people of Afghanistan, they want the power to choose who lives and who dies, they want it regardless of cost...and have spread terror across the nation to achieve it...He bought into this whole idea and in doing so he commited war crimes....I see him as the enemy,a traitor, canadian citizen of convience...someone who after his prison term is up should be turned over to the Afghan authorities...
