As I said, I mostly disagree with her. But given her initial positions, she argues them very logically. Don't make her right, but does make her interesting to read, IMHO.
It is like the realm of Sci-Fi. Assume Hitler hadn't chickened out on the shores of France and had invaded Britain. Most historians and military analysts say he would have won. There have been many great books assuming that happened and exploring the subsequent story. Great stuff to fire the imagination and the thunking process.
It has nothing to do with social conscience. It is all about trying to make the world a better place for my grandchildren. The costs of incarceration vs. the benefits need to be watched carefully. Simon Fraser U has a bunch of really neat stats. Look at them sometimes.
By the way, I believe that assholes that rob convenience stores and assault the staff should be dragged to a dumpster and a .22 injected behind their left ear.
And most pundits are saying the economy will slowly improve. Good news for us as long as the US doesn't tank. Mind you, the way the Hope and Change guy is going, it probably will.
Did you know that 1% of the US population is in prison. If you include remand, city, county and state jails it's way more. They have their famous war on drugs. And it's not working.
I used to be a real "Hang-em High" type. Just like Harper et al are now. But a horrible thing happened. Some hard facts hit me in the face. That approach doesn't work, is expensive, and is counter-productive. Do a little research on criminality.
I'm pretty right wing, and mostly disagree with Mallick. But always read her when she was being posted on the CBC news website. She is wrong, but she is intelligent. (About the only time I agreed with her is when she blasted Sarah Palin.)
We could all run around rubbing our fingers into flowers and stuff. Hell, probably some of the persons here (note the PC of that) might find it enjoyable.
Thus far, we in Canada have been spared the really bad stuff. As bad as they are, the numbers of non-acceptable immigrants we get have been relatively low. But look at what is happening to most European countries. An if we don't smarten up, the same will happen to us. You want the riots that France, Germany, Holland and Belgium have being having?
Please don't take this as any defense of Harper, but let's face it, Cretin had the advantage of a world wide boom, and Harper inherited a global recession. So not totally fair. And that wasn't a spelling mistake.
Assuming that by coke you mean cocaine, what horseshit. Nicotine is legal, although more and more restricted. Coke is illegal. Oxycontine is by prescription only. Get a grip, man.
The phrase "compatable cultures" leaves a lot to be desired. We are losing it. The US is losing it. Germany is losing it. France is in deep doo-doo. Don't know what the answer is but I fear for my grandkids.
Hey wyly, you spout a lot of points, but with little back-up. You just regurgitating the Mann et al schpele?
I asked some questions that you just ignored.
Are you Harper haters really that lacking in substance that you have to bring this up? He's got way more significant faults than this, it's just the Iggy and Layton are worse, and the Greens are a joke.
