  1. Medicare was totally an invention of the CCF, I think it still was. And it is screwing our country. We are going to be broke, really soon, mostly because of medicare. Harper at least realizes this and tries to warn the populous of this, but the blithering idiots lap up the shit Iggy and Layton lay on them. The US is leading on this again. They are so far in debt. Obamacare is going to totally screw them. China owns them now, I figure in 10 years China will own us. A country is no different than a business or a household. There is only so long you can let your expenses exceed you income till you are f^cked. And we are getting almost as close as the Americans.
  2. My guess is that Duceppe wanted even more than Harper had agreed to, as Quebec always does to the rest of Canada.
  3. No, but i have the history of the Liberals and the NDP both federally and provincially. Well, OK, not the NDP cause they've never made the grade federally. And I have the sense of what they project on the screen and in person. Losers, IMHO. Harper is too, but the priciples he espouses, even if he doesn't always practice them, is still the way to go.
  4. Eveyone is skirting the question of what do you do if all the leaders, and all the local candidates are, in your opinion, idiots. Like happens to me often. You vote for an a**hole? You don't vote? Yes. I was there. I joined a party and worked for a solution. The infrastructure buried me. But for that particular vote, what should I do.
  5. I'm in no way defending Harper. I'm just saying he's got Iggy, Layton and the Green woman beat all to hell. Mind you, that's like saying ghonnorea is better than syphillus. It's true, but damn, makes you wish there was another choice.
  6. Booga, booga, booga. Are you saying Iggy will be any better. I honestly think him and the totally pervested Liberals would do way worse.
  7. And Chretien/Martin did what about Medicare other than download costs to the provinces? And Canada shouldn't pull it's weight in the international community? Basically I agree with you about the whole get tough on crime stuff. How is that working out for the Americans -NOT. But come on - Iggy? No way. I will hold my nose and vote Conservative again.
  8. For all you partizan hacks accusing Harper et al of lying, how's your Liberal dudes doing, especially when they were in power? It's called politics and I am getting more and more sick of it. I am very right wing. Harper, before he had power was also. Now he has some power he just wants more so will say and do anything he thinks will get him more. Just like Trudeau and Chretien did. Martin not so much, so he lost. I really wish the pots would quit calling the kettles black. And that goes from either side.
  9. That was my riding and I actually joined the CPC so I could vote against him in the riding nomination battle. In fact it was the local Conservatives that delayed sending memberships to Ottawa so that myself and may more like me couldn't vote. Dirty politics but I don't think you can hang this one on Harper or the National Organization. How about the Liberals forcing certain candidates in ridings to try to get better gender and ethnic balance. Same bloody thing. As was said before, this election more than most in my experience is a matter of voting for the least bad candidate/party.
  10. I refute you thus - CBC.
  11. I haven't really studied their platform from the last election in detail, but they appear to me to be much more fiscally conservative than the NDP. (Note the small c in conservative and keep in mind that all things are relative.)
  12. There is some element of truth to your post, but I guess I feel it is a matter of degrees. At least there is some limit to the free hand the leaders would have, and some MP's actually do some good before being kicked out of caucus.
  13. You would avoid 80 years of union corruption?
  14. I think the reason that no real "vision" type leadership has been seen for a long time is fear. Fear of losing the next election. There are reasons to be against it but I still think politicians should be limited to one term. That way they would be more willing to do things that are unpopular with the less knowledgable masses but good for the country in the long run.
  15. Whereas I have a theoretical sympathy for the concept of proportional representatation, I still have not seen a system of achieving it that would make me feel confortable. Would you be happy to see Harper, Iggy and Layton just appoint however many buttkissing yes-men (and women) to parliament? The concept scares me worse than the mess we have now.
  16. Perhaps more than a rebranding, just a better job of getting their message out. Their platform is a bit too much tax and spend for me, but in degree, not to the extent of some other parties out there. Hopefully with a better vote count each election they will get a bit more money and thus be able to communicate better. They've been in the high 9% support range the past few polls.
  17. Actually she finally picked a riding where she has a chance, an outside chance mabybe but a chance. Last time, running against Peter MacKay was just idiocy.
  18. I have lobbied both my MP and MLA at times to try and get "None of the Above" as a choice on all ballots.
  19. They're partisan hacks too, just there were way fewer of them. It appears that we are moving closer and closer to the US model where partisanship overwhelms good governance and logic.
  20. The speaker was correct in accepting the majority decision of a parliamentary committee. Despite the fact the parliamentary committee was a bunch of partisan hacks.
  21. But I bet the error limits were =/> than 3%, so the drift is meaningless.
  22. What part of "opposition dominated committee" don't you understand?
  23. The last time I took a call from a pollster, the poor guy had such a thick accent I honestly couldn't understand him at all. What a waste in so many ways.
  24. Very seriously, since the advent of call display, all poll results should be preceeded with a disclaimer saying "X% of people who don't have a life or are very lonely think .............."
  25. From the CBC website: http://www.bbcshop.com/bin/venda?ex=co_disp-view&bsref=bbc&stry=dvdregionalcoding "Conservative MPs on the opposition-dominated committee did not support the contempt finding and issued a dissenting report."
