  1. Based on the insult hurling I see on this forum, we're already there.
  2. Don't get the mounties involved, just send a squad of the black-shirted gun carrying street patrollers.
  3. In the realm of mandatory sentences et al, doesn't the SCC have a big say?
  4. That is the biggest negative I see in this Conservative victory. But I also see many positives, which outweigh this. Which is why I voted Conservative.
  5. You could replace Consevative with NDP and Harper with Layton in the above and it would be as correct. Layton caused the left-right split.
  6. Many of Canadian prisons are overcrowded, so I have no issue with building prisons. But mandatory sentences have been proved to be counterproductive. And in many situations a prison sentence at all is in fact harmful to society. Yes, our system does tend to bend over backwards to make absolutely sure that the criminal is "proven" guilty. But in spite of that, some innocent persons are still jailed. Mrs. RNG volunteers at a woman's prison here. Almost all the "clients" she mentors come from abusive homes. And she says that prisons are more and more becoming housing for people with mental problems. The US tough on crime initiative, zero tolerance policy on drugs and minimum sentencing has placed 1% of the population behind bars. How's that working out for them?
  7. Serious question - as I have said before, I think most on this forum have their political position fairly firmly set. In my riding the Conservatives called me four times encouraging me to vote, and twice offering to drive me to the poll. Do you think that type of attention impresses Joe(sephen) Undecided?
  8. They sure care in Alberta since every time the prov government tried to implement some privately run but publicly funded clinics the unions would mobilize the non-thinkers into mass rebellion. The vindictive rhetoric becomes unbelievable.
  9. But can I respond with the over-used "But 70% of the voters voted against the NDP"?
  10. Pointless to discuss. Say you are making any change to our healthcare and about 80% of the people cry PRIVATIZATION - TWO TIER - THE END OF THE WORLD AS WE KNOW IT. Just like in the US when anyone mentions public healthcare and about 80% of the people cry SOCIALISM - DEATH PANELS - THE END OF THE WORLD AS WE KNOW IT.
  11. Trudeau, Kennedy, Obama and Layton, all had charisma working strongly for them. And then there was Iggy. (What is the opposite of charisma?) So the previous poster who stated that transition, if Jack's health or age become a factor, could be bad is correct.
  12. Correct. It is now Bloc II.
  13. YEAH!
  14. It's Harry I'm waiting for.
  15. I disagree. As much as I don't like the Green platform, she isn't a dummy and brings a lot of good points to the debate. I would look forward to her questions in question period. Assuming off course that she doesn't have a deciding vote of course.Quoted wrong post, I was referring to the Boo May post.
  16. But the Bloc are getting hmmered way worse than I thought.
  17. I'm not the greatest computer or internet guru, but almost as a personal challenge, I have been working hard. Someone in this thread suggested surly beaver, and it sort of has worked, but I have tried to pull up streaming feeds from CBC and CTV stations in the east, and no-go. Even though I have done that in the past to listen to sports programs.
  18. 14 minutes to go. (Computer time, not CTV time.)
  19. Follow this link, then scroll down, in the lower right is a list of parties. Many of them, I'd guess most of the unbannered ones aren't running anyone. Once you get party status, does it last forever? http://www.ctv.ca/mini/election2011/results/index.html
  20. It should be beautiful and more given what it costs to live here. A medical condition makes it imperative that I live at or near sea level and in a warm(er) climate. There are many places in the US that would be better, but at my age there is no way I could afford medical insurance, hell, if I could get any in the first place. Another thing wrong with our medicare. It totally limits your choices. Had I carried my own insurance from when I got my first job, that wouldn't be a problem.
  21. Yup. I'm in BC. Sucks to be me.
  22. An interesting point in law. Let's say an American does post results here. Is MLW liable to charge?
  23. I seriously doubt it. They would just blackmail the federal government for even more money, as they have done since the founding of this nation. Mind you they try and hide it by giving aircraft maintenance contracts to inferior Quebec firms when there was a much better choice in Manitoba, and propping up Bombardier, and so on and so on. And if they build a hockey arena in Quebec City, my pitchfork is coming out.
  24. Well, one guy in his 80's was muttering as he was walking back to the street so I told him where the poll was. He just said he'd walked enough for today and wasn't going to vote. That's not good. But I'm against jail in many cases. I think they should be sentenced to 1000 hours of crossing guard duties in a uniform supplied by me, to be served only when it is raining.
