  1. He is right. The same for me. Lower taxes with the Conservatives, and when I was called for jury duty, I explained it would interfere with my job and I got a walk. Life is good as long as the socialists are controlled.
  2. And Cons and Reps are the most likely to crap on civil liberties, I agree. One of the things I tend to disagree with the "right" position in N America. And yet again I hope the Canadian Libertarian party matures really quickly so I can vote for them. But I am still very suspicious of the government having any personal data. If everything is so safe, why do they need your name?
  3. You are speaking of how thing would be in an ideal world. Unfortunately, this information can and has been used to persecute personal enemies of politicians and the police. I'm not saying often, but it does happen. We need our privacy and civil liberties strongly protected.
  4. No one is advocating no taxation. Where the tax money is wasted is of concern though. The bolded parts above are just silliness. The free market wasn't given a chance to work in this recession. Had existing laws been applied openly, talking largely the American situation, many companies would have cratered, and the net result would have been a stronger economy in the end. And I get so frustrated that Harper was forced to do stimulus spending by the Libs and NDP against his beliefs, trying to make parliament work and then gets criticized for running a deficit. Go figure.
  5. That's the type of math some die-hard NDP'er offered us previously on this forum to prove that -89% were in favour of the Cons, or whatever drivel they used.
  6. OK, you categorize a vote not cast.
  7. I don't know. There seem to be quite a few die-hard fanatic NDP supporters in the world.
  8. I'd sure like to see where those numbers came from.
  9. I as someone else did previously, assumed that those who didn't vote were not NDP supporters either. Then they work.
  10. Again I say, what about the 82% who didn't vote for Layton?
  11. They were all on holiday or whaterver and haven't had a chance to meet Layton or get their official orders yet.
  12. That never seemed to apply to the Cons or the Libs lately, unfortunately.
  13. My spellchecker says it is Inuit. I meant what in non-PC days we called Eskimos.
  14. Please don't call me buddy.
  15. Actually, it's going to be easier to tackle Jack now. He doesn't care if Jack votes against his legislation now. As many commentators have said, Jack was way more powerful before Monday.
  16. Oh, and in a CTV interview, Chris Alexander says as a rookie MP, he has enough on his plate to learn up on parliament so he doubts if he is in the running for a cabinet seat. He claims Harper hasn't mentioned it. http://www.ctv.ca/CTVNews/TopStories/20110505/chris-alexander-110505/
  17. I'd be willing to bet that the Inuit from NL will be in cabinet in some way, both due to geography and the whole PC thing.
  18. Wow - Just wow.
  19. I do not agree. For years I read the Guardian. At that time it was the Manchester Guardian. I'm strong right. They are very strong left. And they brag about it. However, I really respect them, or at least them then. I haven't read them for some years now. Their editorial position, their op-eds etc were very left. But their news stories were very factual and insightful. And they kept it very obvious which was which.
  20. I haven't been around that long. Is Topaz anything more than a troll?
  21. The CBC this morning reported that he claims to be suffering from "election fatigue".
  22. Are not both corporations and unions forbidden to make political donations in Canada?
  23. As much as I criticize the CBC as the Communist Broadcasting Corporation, they aren't as bad as Fox.
  24. That is in theory only. Yes, it is how it should be, and how I wish it were, but most of us realists realize that starting with Trudeau and escalating rapidly since, the PMO has accumulated more power and individual MPs have lost their power. So the impact your vote has on your riding depends much more on the party leader than the MP.
