The government should start accounting for the money it is collecting now. Payroll taxes were a temporary thing to pay form world war 1; lotteries got started to pay for the Montreal olympics; now we have lots of them, BC is turning into Las Vegas with casinos; which donates a big share to the government. Every hospital has a lottery to pay for equipment. We even get gst's on other taxes. Too many taxes not enough accountability.

NoT English Canada; French Canada must realize the facts. If we lived in Quebec, Ontario or other Eastern Canada locations; then it would be adviseable to learn French. French is not one of the leading languages used in international trade; therefore we in BC would be wise to learn one of the Asian languages; the second most used language in BC and often required for employment.

It is not beneficial to learn French living out here on the west coast. I took French in school and have never used it is 60 years. It is beneficial for the French Canadians to learn English as most of Canada and the world; English is one of the most used languages. Here in BC; it would be much wiser to learn Chinese or Japanese; as many companies require that for working at their company as they deal with people in China or Japan. It is a waste of time and money to learn a second language that one will never use; just like taking trigonomety in school is a waste of timne for most students; better to teach more on economics and budgeting.

What's wrong with the father choosing whichever of the two bilingual he wishes his son to be taught in. You are being a hypocrite. You believe the English people should learn French; it works BOTH ways.

Me too, even though most of the large companies in Canada are American owned; they still use Canadian labour. I hope some of the new slaughter/processing plants are Canadian owned.

Seemingly the Unity leader acted without approval of the rest of the party; it will probably not happen. Gordon Campbell is not like the Federal Liberals and in fact is very right wing; we don't need another right wing party. We need one that is more towards the center.

We haven't had too many politicians that we can respect lately. Corruption and patronage jobs and giving themselves large raises eats away at out tax money. Breaking promises without a real good excuse; Chretien promised to get rid of the gst; got him elected. Campbelll promised not to sell BC Rail; it is gone along with a lot of more of our resources and jobs; sold!! 75 year lease to the best foreign bidder. Most of our recent Premiers have faced criminal charges; Campbell spent a night in jail. Great leadership worthy of respect???????

I think it is time we did get out of the so called free trade agreement; the American government does not abide by the rules and re writes them to suit themselves. America was a much nicer neighbour before Free Trade and before they became the sole super power. Now they want to force American type democracy on foreign countries while American citizens are having their democratic rights and freedoms reduced.

And if we don't get started building our own ships we will never get the experience and efficiency. We have intelligent engineers here in Canada that are just as good as anywhere else. Many are much superior. When money is spent within our own country much of that money returns to the government coffers through taxation. You cannot do a straight comparison in price when in effect the work done in Canada results in refund in the form of taxes paid.

Cartman; if you have a political leadership that is doing an adequate job keeping them in power is not a bad idea. Watch BC; we usually hate our governing party bad enough, time after time; we would vote for the devil to get rid of the previous one (I think we did vote in the devil last time and with no opposition) It get expensive; paying off all those politicians and all their political appointees and then doing again in 4 years. That being said; I can't wait till May 11th and get Campbell kicked out of office.

Where did you get that information on closing? What difference does that make? These businesses have had insufficient time to make needed business decisions re ordering stock, clearance sale, moving arragements; finding a place to move their stock to. It is a nasty inconcieveably unfair way to treat long term tenants

We are not willing to kiss bush butt for cash for the greedy wealthy big business interests with nothing for the working man but to pay the bills and get paid like some third world county

Don't base their sentence on time base it on steps taken to rehabilitate themselves and earn the right to rejoin society. Do not allow them to refuse to work. Make sure they do work and contribute enough labour to pay the costs of their confinement. Send them to work camps in remote areas. Let them build the camps and housing; grow vegetables and raise feed animals for their use; fish for food and start up some type of business such as logging or agriculture to pay for the costs. Perhaps they will learn a little self respect. Just punishment is not enough and it is costing us too much for little results.

Those subs are rotten and dangerous. What is it costing us to fix them and still have old outdated questionably safe subs. You have no real basis for estimating what it would cost to build new ships here in Canada. The first may be expensive but costs can be trimmed and efficiency improved with experience.

Why do we carry on trade with such idiots

now this rotten BC Ferries organization just gave the craft shops that have been at the terminals until September 10 to vacate the premises. These businesses are often owned by seniors who have invested in these businesses for their senior years income. Now they get less than 30 days notice that they are to be evicted. On top of the rent they paid; they were paying over 18% commision to the Ferry Corporation. Shoddy treatment; doesn't sound fair or legal to me

It would be a good idea to put forth after the next elections in those commonwealth countries. Looks like all those leaders may get the boot for supporting Bush against the wishes of the citizens. The USA needs to have a balance; better us than China, perhaps or even all three. I do not like the actions of the USA since they became the sole super power

I think it would be a good idea to start building our own navy ships. We do have chronic unemployment in the maritimes provinces and we are always paying out there extra EI etc. The fishing industry in pretty sad now I believe. Those submarines we bought from England were in much worse shape and cost too much to get into shape. We are surrounded by oceans; time we started building our own ships.
