Who is your favourite prime minister and premier
caesar replied to Big Blue Machine's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
I would say Trudeau saved Canada; no doubt. Without him, we wouldn't be worrying now about Quebec separating; it would have already been a done deal. It was Mulroney who wrecked Canada's control of its resources and sovernity. (How do you spell that? wish we had a spell checker) -

Health care is the same Canada wide; there are premiers like Campbell who are purposely destroying Health Care; blaming the Feds. One nation wide Health care service could be better controlled and no excuses by trying to blame the federal government. We are getting stuck in the middle with poor health care while our provincial leaders play games trying to get more money from the federal government. One single system under one control would be stronger and more manageable. Why do you think the premiers do not want the Federal government to attach strings to the cash provided??? We need to train more doctors or fast track immigrant doctor's credentials more quickly. Taxpayers will be subsidizing this training. Why should we not insist in exchange that these doctors work; let's say 10 years as salaried doctors in large clinics encompassing complete care; doctor visit; specialists; MRIs; x rays etc at a one stop clinic. I understand that these would be more efficient and cheaper. It would have new doctors together under supervision. Doctor's resist this as they prefer the fee for service where they fast track you out in 5 mintes and charge the goverment 15. We need accountability from doctors. We are all aware that many double bill. Send out more verifications showing the patients what the government has been billed on their behalf. We used to get such statements but I have not seen one in years. It may be too expensive to send statements out to every patient but there certainly should be more random checks to keep doctors in line. -
Quebeckers ARE still Canadians; that was a dumb statement separating Canada and Quebec.

Pharmacare such as the provincial premiers suggest (like BC's) is not very good anyhow. Discriminates against seniors. Most provinces subsidize seniors on fixed incomes; this pharmacare model up the costs dramatically for any senior responsible enough to save something for their retirement years. We need to work on getting people into doctors, test and shortening the waiting list. Let's work on the important part of medical care first. It would be stupid and dangerous for the Provinces to handle health care and the federal government to handle pharmacare. The two systems must work together. Otherwise the Provinces will keep medicating us to pass the cost to the federal government rather than curing our ailments via operations or other medical means. Personally, I would like to see the federal government taking full control of all health issues so we are all treated equally in Canada. Many people have a pharmacare coverage via employment. -
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/main.jhtml...21/ixworld.html It is getting a bit ridiculous when a well known easily recognized long termed senator such as Ted Kennedy is denied boarding. Read this UK Telegraph story

While it may indeed pose a risk to the water; attempting to stop the firefighters using the best resources available to stop a fire is debateable and could be very dangerous.

The FLQ's kidnapping and murdering was what brought the War Measures into being. I was completely in favour of this action. That is probably why I admired Trudeau the most; he would not bargain with our home grown terrorists despite the fact his own family would be the favoured target. His tough actions brought that situation under control quite quickly. Without the War Measures Act it would probably have spread and grown. Most despised Prime Minister/ Premier would be Mulroney and our present day Gordon Campbell hands down; little competition. -
Are you anti USA or anti Bush?

denial, denial, denial. The Americans insisted on being exempt from being charged with War Crimes; no wonder. I is amazing what a rich country can do by bribing and threatening countries. England and Australia went along with Bush against the wishes of its citizens. It is sneaking through loopholes; they knew they would not get another resolution in their favour. Their a"evidence" was already exposed as being fraudulent, forgeries, old and plagarized or just plain irrelevent. The intelligence they used came from a known criminal charged with embezzlement. The American choice front runner as the next president of Iraq. A character now facing forgery charges is Iraq. -

They were not working within any UN guidelines; they attempted to sneak between them since the USA got that pass on being charged with war crimes. What a crock of bs. It should never have been allowed. Fortunately that is coming to an end. -

I have lived through many more than you. Mine is Trudeau; you may not always liked what he said but you could always trust his word. Premiers here in BC have been plentiful; I suppose Mike Harcourt would be one of the nicest and he had no criminal charges. That is a rarity now in BC -
It really is not funny. I don't know what that twerp Campbell is pulling off. We have plenty of reliable companies in BC that should be doing this not some foreign country. He is doing his best to make sure there are no jobs for BC ers unless it is minimum wage jobs.

Wonderful. Repatriate our records. We can do our own data management

contrast this behaviour to BC's Campbell

I don't believe that the DUI will play a big role in the election. We have much more serious problems with the man and his destruction of our province. He has only helped the very wealthy and made the working middle income earner pay the bill. Seniors, women and sick or abused children have all suffered under his government. He has broken contracts with nurses and hospital workers. He has sold off BC assets and yet still allowed the deficit to grow as have waiting times for medical services. Many medical services have been de listed. Children at 14 are allowed to work with no protection. Everything points to attempts to turn BC into a 3rd world cheap labour market for business. BC, and Vancouver is a very expensive place to live; we cannot survive on minimum wage type jobs. Tuition has risen dramatically in colleges and universities making BC one of the highest in Canada -

What we need is for a regime change in the USA and for that new government to start living by our trade agreements and NAFTA and WTO rulings. Stop the bs -
Where is that right written. I fail to see where road signs are required to be in a minority language. Road signs are fairly international. If you can't read them; stay off the road.
-
Not as much a minority as you may think. We are Canadian and try to be polite. We would like Quebec to get off its high horse and make an attempt to be Canadian. Many of us are getting fed up with the government trying to buy their love and appeasing Quebec instead of us all working together. When Quebec outlawed any English signs; for me that was the last straw. Don't try to make us all speak French; there are only a minority of French speaking people in BC. We are obligated to make sure there are sufficient translators to assist any French Canadian in our province be it in court cases, hospital or wherever. We do our best to accomodate everyone. There is a larger need for translators to speak Chines and Punjabi here; they are the main languages spoken by BC citizens with a mother tongue other thab English. We encourage and have no problems with signs in any language that the locals understand.

Not our Gordy; not even after he was constantly calling on others to resign for lesser or unproven sins. Just shows he has no class. -
The American election comes to Canada. John Kerry's sister is in BC campaigning for her brother. Seems they are looking for Americans living in Canada to vote in this election.

RRSPs are not that great. When you start using that money; you start paying taxes on it and and it bumps up your income to where you may lose many benefits. At 20, it is okay to put money there but use it to borrow and buy a nice home. Money put into real estate; particularly a private home can be a better investment. You can downgrade when you are older to free up some cash without it increasing your income.

Clutter: Too Many Ads On Television?
caesar replied to maplesyrup's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Maybe, but I don't need THAT much beer or chips nor even bathroom breaks. We tape a lot of the programs we watch and have the ads edited out automatically. I can always push stop if I need a short break or rewind if I missed something. -
The Americans do want our lumber; they prefer it as unprocessed raw logs but we prefer to keep the jobs of finishing the lumber in BC. Paper is a dying industry probably largely due to the computer. It is only the lumber barons of the USA weho do not want the competition of our lumber in the USA.
-
With proper use the lumber will last forever. When you cut and use ; we replant. Lumber can be easily substained unlike oil.

There is no reason for BC to learn French as a second language. Besides what they speak in Quebec is not the same French as they speak in France. As an official bilingual country we need to be able to provide services to anyone who speaks French here in BC. We do. We provide services for those who speak other languages which are more prevalent first languages, too. The insistence that we in BC should learn or be able to converse and write in French is ridiculous. It would be a waste of time. It irritates westerners to be told that we should do so when in Quebec that respect for a language(English) which is very prominent second language is NOT respected nor are any English signs allowed. BC person should learn Chinese or even Japanese as that is a language that is often asked for in ads for employment. The French people in Quebec do NOT really care whether we speak French or not. Too bad that when the English captured Canada from the French that we allowed them to keep their own language.
