  1. Well, I believe that someones health and well being should dictate at what age they should retire; not a calendar. However, I do not think anyone should be expected to work past the age of 65; that they should be able to collect their pension at that time; if they so desire. Some people thrive in retirement; others become depressed and get old faster. Some women who stayed home to raise children and have now lost their spouse may have little or no pension money left; a friend now has to retire next moneth from the bank; she has not worked long enough to build up any pension. It is not possible to live on government pension even with the supplement. I think that I would like to find part time work when my time comes to retire. Unless you have money to travel or hobbies it can be a sad existence.
  2. Maple what makes you say something like that. The Vernon citizens do have rights for a safe and secure environment. Until they can run those halfway houses without violent incidents close them down or move them out of town. Move them across the street from you.
  3. I seldom do watch tv because of the ads. I only watch the movie channels that have no commercials and occasionally the news. Too many ads makes everything lose interest and boring. Easier to find news etc on my computer. I wish the newspapers were better at printing news instead of editorials.
  4. It is not mob rule. It is democracy. The people in that area have a right to close down that place. Obviously it is NOT working. These violent criminals are not ready for release and the people running the halfway house are not doing their job. Who is going to hire any of these pwople in that community now. I would like to see a remote secure village set up on a remote island where these people can be given jobs and freedom of choices and movements but where they will still be kept away from the general population. Some people should never be allowed to leave. Child molesters are generally never safe to release.
  5. This house has had probably 4 murders in the past 8 years. Either the authorities are not supervising these people well enough or they are not ready for this type of parole. Violent offenders are serving too little time. Sentences should have no set time. Let's see them accept counselling and show that they deserve to be out in the public before they are released. The police were not even informed that this last guy was on the lam. There are two murders that he is suspected of committing in the short time he was loose.
  6. I sure don't see that certainly not in BC. The middle income earners end up getting stuck whether we have right wing party or left wing. The rich got and get to keep their tax decreases under Campbell; middle income workers and seniors had their taken back plus. "fair pharmacare" cost us an extra 1100 as seniors. Unions are getting attacked by this government and replaced by minimum wage workers or farmed out to foreigners. The other side starts handing out too much to those who prefer not to carry their own weight and work. welfare recipients get benefits that the working poor do not.
  7. Zellars has low prices but the stuff is inferior quality. The Bay is poor in service; hard to find any staff these days. I still like Sears. Walmart is pretty much the same a Zellars cheaper prices and inferior products to a large degree. Brand name stuff should be okay but it does carry lots of it junk
  8. I am in shock. I am certainly with Willy on this one. Half way houses should stay out of residential areas where there are children. I hope it gets closed down. Violent criminals should be kept out of residential areas where children are. My grandchildren are moving to Vernon; I don't want any half way house that close to my grandchildren;. Let's move it inoto MS neighbourhood since she thinks that no one should complain over a few murders.
  9. It costs a small fortune just to make a bid on the games; win or lose. There is no guarantee that a host country will make enough profit from the games to cover the costs. We even have ski hill operators demanding compensation for the loss of profit for the 2 weeks of the games. After all the money the government (taxpayers) pay out for improvement to access to their businesses and the improvements to their existing properties and world exposure; they want compensation??????
  10. I am not interested in the Olympics; particularly the summer olympics. I do enjoy watching the ice skating but as for medals; we know that the Olympics are about politics and lots of the judging is very flawed. I am now really anti Olympics now that we in BC are spending all our hard earned tax dollars for the 2010 olympics instead of where the money should be going; healthcare, handicapped or abused children, schools, etc.
  11. Couldn't do much more harm than Bush. His trade actions are not based on protectionism but are spiteful and revengeful. Arrogant dim witted Cheney puppet.
  12. Take a number; obviously, you are not from British Columbia. Our economy needs the lumber industry running to keep this province running. These lumber disputes are greatly responsible for BC now being a "have not" province.
  13. That is a case of self protection. Why shouldn't we make sure our own people are employed and our money is spent within our own country whenever possible.
  14. Where did you get the idea that health care is "free" We pay for it with our taxes and in many provinces our health care premiums. Even then it is only partially funded. Many services are not funded depending on which province that you live in. Chiropractors, physiotherapy, vision tests, dental health care unless hospitilization is required are not covered in BC. There is more, I am sure,
  15. Not true according to the experts. Canadian cities are always topping the list as "best city to live"
  16. Not really, Cartman. Alberta , may just be a few years behind. Remember WAC Bennett ruled for years. After, he finally lost to Barrett's NDP. the following leaders including his son and Vander Zalm sent the party into obscurity. After the Barrett NDP; just about about every Premier here has faced charges of some sort of corruption. Harcourt was honest. Campbell was the first that actually had to spend time behind bars. others came close.
  17. We do have agreements on all lumber trade; it is the Americans who play games and don't abide by the agreements. There is a market for our softwood lumber; the American big business lumber like to keep us out to increase their prices and profits. It is American consumers who suffer.
  18. Our local newspapers; both the Sun and the Province are what people get here in Vancouver;both are owned by Can West. We can get the Globe, which I have found so far to be accaptable; but gives us little provincial news.
  19. Not at all. At least we still do not allow or promote trial by the media that goes on in the USA. We do have CBC and the Globe.
  20. WhY????? Because Iraq/Saddam WAS cooperating with the weapons inspectors; no viable WMD were detected; the American government used fraudulent documents, forgeries and an old plagiarized student paper to state their case!!!!!! There was NO threat to the USA. Not only did thousands of innocent Iraqis die, thousand seriously injured; American/British soldiers died and thousand were seriously maimed; others will come home with mental problems; many have committed suicide, already. Perhaps another Timothy McVeigh such as came back from the first Gulf War. I could go on and on and on but....
  21. Yeah right; if you believe that; you will believe anything. ridiculous
  22. Well, I would be interested in his party if he can get it moving. We do need something a little more centered. Of course. We shall see what he can do. The liberals came from nowhere to become a party of interest then it was hijacked by this bunch of right wingers.
  23. Our BC economy was hurt by the USA trade actions. Lumber is one of our most important exports.
  24. Give up on Krusty; he is in denial; Brainwashed. Or poerhaps he just likes to argue. trolling, perhaps.
  25. That is your opinion. You listen to too much Bush propaganda. They escape prosecution due to getting the exemption from prosecution for war crimes. Fortunately, that will end within the year. The Iraq fiasco was the last straw. I was disgusted with the bow down to USA blackmail to get such exemption.
