Why Canadians re-elected a Liberal government?
ironstone replied to CITIZEN_2015's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
So this topic is titled Why Canadians re-elected a Liberal government. Now here is a young Liberal that got elected in Calgary. In fact the only Liberal. A good candidate for a cabinet position they say. A young Liberal and a person of colour, things that make him more appealing to the left. Oh wait! What's this? Voter, opponent shocked to see Calgary Liberal MP-elect replace election flyer on security video | CBC News He certainly has about the same amount of ethics as any typical Liberal. This won't hurt him either. -

It's more about what's coming down the pipe, namely the freedom to voice your opinion if it doesn't happen to be popular. Seems a lot of conservatives get blocked/banned already from Youtube, Facebook, Twitter. Trudeau Liberals' 'censorship czar' will make Canada's internet among 'most censored and surveilled': Advocacy group | The Post Millennial If you read the above link it does mention $70,000 fines or house arrest. Specifically promoting "detestation or vilification" and yes, "hurtful comments". All courtesy of Justin Trudeau and his Liberal government. -
US, UK, Australia in security pact against China. Canada left out
ironstone replied to Argus's topic in The Rest of the World
This isn't something that would bother the Trudeau Liberals in the least since they are very strongly pro-China. The Niagara Independent Trudeau no doubt opposes any kind of pact like this, no surprise there. -

My concern about C36 and C10 is that it's very broad and also vague. Speech that some may be offended by may soon be considered hate speech. Free speech doesn't really exist in Canada and now this legislation may put even more limits on what we can say. Stephen Guilbeault has tried before to gain more control over the flow of information. He did want to license the news media at one time which is rather authoritarian. Heritage minister retreats from licensing all news media | The Post Millennial Trudeau minister says government WILL regulate online media, AGAIN | The Post Millennial Your free speech is at risk with Ottawa's push to regulate online content, experts warn | CBC News -

The mere mention of cutting pogey seems to have struck a nerve with you. I have never lived in Atlantic Canada so is this your way of admitting the current pogey system is vital to your way of life? -

We can't put too much stock in TreeBeard's scientist's consensus. Don't they also tell us that gender is not just fluid but that there are in fact dozens or perhaps hundreds of genders?? -

Some oil companies are pleased about the misfortune of other oil companies. They are not held to the same standards as you should be aware. For the time being, the western world does need oil and I for one think it makes much more sense to use our own rather than from places like Saudi Arabia or Russia. We are constantly bombarded with climate change hysteria from the government and the wealthiest people in the world(with the biggest carbon footprints). In terms of sheer volume one side practically drowns out the other. It's not a stretch to suggest they have more resources at their disposal. And for the record, western owned oil companies desperately want to promote a green image. Wins by climate activists find unlikely backer, ‘hostile regimes’ | Business and Economy News | Al Jazeera Competition is not always a bad thing so we should support our own side more. Obviously they have a much bigger pool of funds to draw from. How about most western democracies and unlimited government resources? A real pity that the left only wants an echo chamber and fights to silence any dissenting opinions. The Climate Censors - Stossel TV (johnstossel.com) -

Jeff Bezos announces $1 billion Earth Fund grant for 'climate conservation purposes' (republicworld.com) This is at least one source for the climate change agenda. I think they have a huge advantage in this already one sided debate in that they have the power and means to indoctrinate on the first day of schooling. I do believe the climate is changing just as it always has over time. I also believe this global climate change movement is actually more about wealth redistribution and ending capitalism as we know it. It's very disturbing that the leftists as usual are vigorously opposed to debating this subject. They claim the science is on their side but how idiotic is it that emissions from "people of colour" countries are not an issue compared to western democratic countries? There should be nothing to fear from honest and open debate. -

You should read from page 6 on in the link I posted above. I'm talking about those people that do not work most of the time. Able bodied people who don't contribute their fair share to the system. Anyone gainfully employed has little reason to move if they support themselves. I'm fortunate in that I have never been laid off since I started working 38 years ago but it bugs me that a lot of people in this country game the system and only work enough to collect benefits or they won't work at all. And I mean able bodied people, not anyone with disabilities. -

No offense but people in your part of the country have to work less in order to collect those benefits. The Issues Facing Canada’s Employment Insurance Program (fraserinstitute.org) In a nutshell, the benefits are easier to collect where you are and therefore you have less incentive to actually relocate to find work. -

It's not my preference although I am sick of Quebec using the threat of separation for their own benefit. In their case it has worked tremendously in their favour. And I understand why the western provinces are frustrated too. The Liberal attitude has always been "screw the west, we'll take the rest!" Unity is something of a problem when the whole country primarily revolves around Ontario and Quebec. -

Be careful what you wish for. If they go that means fewer people to carry the financial load in this country. Those would be the people that subsidize Quebec and Atlantic Canada. Just saying. -

Islamic dictatorships or communist dictatorships? No thanks to either one. Given what you're posting in this forum it seems the Atlantic provinces aren't spending enough of those equalization payments in the education system. Think I'll take a break and tune in to FOX News? -

Different news organizations put different perspectives on the same stories. I happen to think FOX and the Post Millennial etc do a much better job of it. I accept that there is a leftist point of view on just about everything( usually crazy or misguided?) just as there is a conservative viewpoint. The CBC isn't entirely bad, Marketplace is a really good show, and then there is....ummm...uhhhh. Well they do have one good show.? -

I have watched a bit of CPAC over the last couple of weeks. It seemed to me they concentrated mostly on the GTA and Quebec but that's not unexpected in this country. I do not watch CBC, CTV or Global News and I got sick of the Ottawa Citizen and the now similar Sun chain. I get news stories from The Post Millennial and Candace Malcolm that you are unlikely to see from the usual big names in the business. Rebel News too although I'm not a subscriber. -

We don't know to this day whether it came from one of those disease breeding wet markets or the disease breeding Wuhan lab. China was certainly not open and transparent with the rest of the world while this thing was rapidly spreading but that's par for the course for a Communist country. -
20th of September 2021, next federal elections
ironstone replied to QuebecOverCanada's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
So now we must wait for the Liberals to release their complete platform. Things they didn't want Canadians to know about during the election. Like C-36 and C-10 for instance. There was also recent speculation about whether they will implement huge tax hikes on most Canadians in order to actually pay for this massive debt load. And yes, debt get's paid by Canadians that actually work, it is categorically NOT carried "by government" alone contrary to what Justin Trudeau has publicly stated. -

How much does Alberta get in equalization payments? The oil and gas sector has generated enormous wealth over the years, much of it ends up in Quebec and the Atlantic provinces. A big part of the reason Quebec has that much praised affordable daycare program to name one. Oil pipelines can still provide lot's of jobs and energy security by the way. Do you actually walk the walk and live your life 100% free of any benefits from the petroleum industry? -

Can you be specific and name the things that heartless Harper did during that time that you didn't like? And your attitude falls squarely into the typical leftist mindset in that you think Canada only revolves around the east while ignoring the contributions of the west. -

There will be another election in 2 years or less. Canada will be even more socialist by then but you should be pleased now since there is very little difference between the Liberals and the NDP. The current Conservative party is also left of centre. If you are somewhere on the east coast of Canada I hope you are very thankful for the decades of massive financial support from the western(oil and gas)provinces.
