  1. Word on the street has it that they can't even afford to hire staff - http://www.thehilltimes.ca/html/cover_inde...imbers/&c=1
  2. The politicians will toss this back and forth for a while, eventually coming to an agreement that drops the restriction in Canada's favour (in return for something - perhaps a 'future consideration'). However, anyone in the US who plans to take advantage of infrastructure monies is going to make sure that they buy local - by that time, it will be a political requirement, even if its not leglislated.
  3. I think Usenet had the right idea when it comes to invoking Nazis and/or Hitler. Too bad nobody seems to pay attention any more. http://www.killfile.org/~tskirvin/faqs/godwin.html
  4. Ignatieff is no different...http://network.nationalpost.com/np/blogs/f...ider-leaks.aspx
  5. So, how many specific issues can you name (leaving partisanship and rhetoric aside) where the Harper Government is significantly to the right of President Obama's? http://www.ottawasun.com/News/Columnists/G...105641-sun.html
  6. Most atheists? As in any 'ism' - whether it be atheism, islamism, christianism - I think the majority simply go on with their lives, without trying to impose their beliefs on others. Of course, every 'ism' has it's fanatics but I believe they are the minority in almost every case. And yes, I highly doubt that 'islamism' or 'christianism' are actual words.
  7. It's the War on Drugs - too many vested interests on both sides of the law. Interestingly, many states in the US actually have less restrictive laws on marijuana than Canada does. http://norml.org/index.cfm?Group_ID=4516 I've heard that in California it is possible to obtain a medical exemption at a walk-in clinic, then walk across the parking lot to the 'dispensary' and pick up what you need...
  8. So Gilles is lying? Maybe he was lying about the rest of it too.
  9. It appears that nobody thought to tell Gilles that he wasn't part of the coalition - in fact, he seems to believe that he's in charge of it! http://www.ctv.ca/servlet/ArticleNews/stor...?hub=TopStories
  10. 2012 eh? I'm surprised no one has mentioned the Mayans yet.
  11. It seems to be a bit of a stretch to jump on the 'global credit crisis' bandwagon. Credit may be the "straw that broke the camel's back" but Nortel has been in big trouble for a lot longer than that.
  12. http://www.thestar.com/News/Ontario/article/570638Even if it were possible, retooling would add $millions to the cost and months to the delivery date. It would take less than 50 days to build 1300 trucks at 25-30 per day - then what?
  13. Perhaps instead of 'checking of on your teen' you should actually sit down and talk to him/her and their friends. You seem to have a seriously distorted view of young people today - if you really feel this way I'm not sure why you even bother...
  14. Like the teachers who are currently threatening to strike for a 12% raise? I thought the coalition said it wasn't about the money...
  15. In addition to corporate taxes, the shareholders (if you own mutual funds there is a good chance that you are a shareholder) will sooner or later also have to pay taxes on the same income, either through dividends and/or capital gains.
  16. The Liberal Party was a victim? What about the taxpayers the money was stolen from?
  17. Yeah right, and Mr. Clinton "never had sexual relations with Monica Lewinsky"!
  18. Which begs the question: What difference does a $45 million cut make compared to $46 billion? Besides, many of the projects this was being spent on ( http://www.nationalpost.com/opinion/story.html?id=710676 ) only benefited travel agencies.
  19. 1. Stealing hydro - which pretty much bypasses every safety feature, fuse and circuit breaker. 2. Overloading circuits - which now have no safety features, fuses circuit breakers. 3. You shouldn't play with electricity while high...
  20. Ah, but my point is that the people doing those jobs were immigrants, even if they were white. The immigration level back then was as high or higher than it is now, and 99% of them have managed over time to integrate with our society while still maintaining their own cultures. And the current batch of immigrants will do the same given the chance.
  21. And the OP specifically asked for Conservative input...
  22. Do you mean French, English and Mercan?
