  1. Thank you. Now back to the regularly scheduled programming...
  2. How can they possibly claim that it's unsafe for 14-year-old to ride on a motorcycle, while allowing infants to ride in contraptions like this? http://astore.amazon.com/baby-strollers-gu...tail/B000H4E7EO
  3. If you want people to read and understand your posts, you really should consider using sentences and paragraphs and perhaps, some punctuation.
  4. Perhaps she was allowed a snack when she didn't bring half the neighbourhood kids over! It's one thing to feed your own kids, it's a total different ball game to feed all their friends as well. Besides, it builds character. In any case, the main reason that wealthier societies have fewer children is that the children are no longer a potential asset, but an expense. In societies which have lower incomes, children are seen as a hedge against the future - once they're big enough they can contribute to the family, both in income from outside jobs and in household chores.
  5. If this was an election website, why is it still there? (the World Wide Web - where nothing truly disappears). Is this something like the election signs that pop up out of nowhere when you least expect them - "Vote Sharp - Mitchell Sharp!".
  6. Huh? What about Leona Aglukkaq? Think of all the money that was wasted on your education...
  7. Just curious - is there a point to this test? Even if you assume that all drugs are evil, this really doesn't give a good determination...
  8. Education in this province (Ontario) has been dysfunctional for years. Being outdone by an American - shameful. However, ignorance really should not be an excuse. Despite systemic imperfections, many millions of young people have still managed to exceed expectations and make us all proud, regardless of country.
  9. So, we should increase the GST by at least two points? Immediately? Actually, I suspect that there will be a number of so-called economists who will soon agree that the GST cut was possibly the best thing they could do in view of recent developments, - and will help to keep the recession from being worse... Regardless, the CPC campaigned on GST cuts and the electorate apparently agreed with them - so they followed through and kept their promise. (not like some others who were going to eliminate the GST if I recall).
  10. I know it wasn't a valid analogy - I said so. But the fact is that our political system is a level playing field and every party gets the same opportunity. IMO the Green Party did not do anything to deserve what recognition they did get (from the media or anyone) and the resulting vote confirms that. At least 9 out of 10 voters does not consider the Green Party to be a viable alternative. End of story. AS long as they continue to be a one-issue party they will not get any recognition, or respect. Sorry, but that's the truth - there are always winners and losers.
  11. You're serious aren't you? How does that have anything at all to do with our political system? In terms of an analogy - how about: The NHL allows a certain number of teams. They each compete using similar rules and regulations. Eventually, some teams do better than others and they are allowed to move on to the playoffs. Some teams get left behind because, well, they weren't good enough. Eventually, someone actually wins because they had the best team. It's a stretch I know, but you started it.
  12. You have to admit - the part about the camels was original.
  13. Gee, I hope your feelings weren't hurt. I'll let you win next time, or would that be impolitic of me?
  14. We're not discussing sports, or entertainment, or grade-school. Even so, when I watch the NHL, only the top 30 teams are even allowed to play. But I guess some believe that everybody should be able to participate because that's the fair thing to do. Wouldn't want anyone to get hurt feelings.
  15. Where did you learn this drivel - state-sponsored nursery school? Of course there has to be winners and losers...
  16. "endorsing the high dollar"? Have you looked at the current value of the dollar? Also, I may be wrong but it seems to me that if the Autoworkers Union is concerned about productivity, the first thing they might consider is asking their membership to work harder...
  17. Yes and some of them are even bigger now, because of NAFTA.
  18. Thank you. It works on all sides.
  19. Two more recounts - http://www.ottawasun.com/News/National/200...171346-sun.html
  20. I suspect this is a "look good" announcement that was expected of us because we were the host. In the end, the expense will be over several years and probably come out of our already allotted foreign aid budget. Come on, they might be politicians, but that doesn't mean they're stupid. (I can't believe I just said that).
  21. With all the concern about low voter turnouts and general apathy towards politics - is it time to rethink citizenship? Is it enough to be born in a country, or should the country be justified in seeking some kind of ongoing commitment?
  22. Which is kind of scary, but a far cry from 'child abuse'.
  23. I have always believed that Mulroney got the shaft as far as the 'lying brian' thing. NAFTA and the GST were initiatives that he put forward because he believed they were good for the country - they sure as hell did not do much for him politically. Over time, those two initiatives made it possible for Trudeau's out-of-control deficit spending to be reeled in - and Liberals ended up getting the credit for it.
  24. Hmm, here's a nice non-biased article from what is normally considered a right-leaning newspaper: http://www.ottawasun.com/News/Columnists/C...989666-sun.html It's a nice heartwarming story about how the local community has stepped up and provided funding and resources to keep a community resource functioning after being abandoned by the Catholic Church. Overall, it pretty much shows how a community can actually accomplish something without the support of big government - a conservative ideal if there ever was one. However, the first paragraph is "I was thinking the other day about fat-cat artists and cocktail galas, wondering if Prime Minister Stephen Harper has ever found his way to St. Brigid's, all of about six blocks from Parliament Hill." and there are several more digs against the Conservatives throughout the article. Not mentioned are the facts - (a) the 'arts cuts' did not affect any program from which this church may have received money, and ( why should the federal government ( i.e. Moose Creek, Saskatchewan) finance a local project like this? and © the arts funding to families that was announced by CPC would likely benefit the programs currently offered by this community center.
