  1. Umm, what does that have to do with the CBC?
  2. Why does Oleg refuse to use sentences?
  3. I am pretty sure that the rules have been changed relatively recently. When my parent immigrated (in the fifty's) they had to wait a minimum of five years before they could apply for citizenship - I think it's a lot less now.
  4. Sorry, I don't get it. Did you go to college?
  5. Well said.
  6. Stereotyping aside, your comment simply makes no sense. Many 'older' people in Canada either came here as immigrants or are the children of immigrants - and are probably more likely to appreciate the nature of discrimination than many 'younger' people in Canada. Maybe you watched too much Archie Bunker?
  7. I guess I'm disappointed as well. However, if this one aging reactor has been supplying isotopes to the rest of the world for this long, you would think somebody else would have stepped up to the plate before now. I am sure there are many university or goverment installations across America and Europe who would be capable of running something like this - why aren't they doing it?
  8. How is stereotyping 'older' people in this way any different than stereotyping Muslims as terrorists? I guess you're not as open-minded as you think you are. Yes.
  9. Is that a question?
  10. I'm not sure what people expected - if costs go up, then prices go up. Pretty simple - works pretty much the same way as most taxes. If you don't like it, don't buy cable television - I don't.
  11. Um, why can't you build the road? I don't work where you do - I don't need a road.
  12. Get into college? Based on that post, it appears that you never finished grade school...
  13. ...and the workers (I use that term loosely) are now being paid overtime to clean up their own mess! http://www.financialpost.com/related/links...html?id=1883169
  14. Um, you do realize that both EI payments and welfare payments are paid by the same person - the taxpayer?
  15. Curbing greed? Socialists are the most generous people I know - with other people's money!
  16. Bye! Don't let the door slam your *** on the way out...
  17. Umm, almost every 'for-profit' company in Canada makes use of government funding in one way or another...
  18. You must be kidding. Fife was one of the first to start salivating and jump on the bandwagon when the story originally broke - and now you're saying that he is lying? Based on what?
  19. What about the GST rebate? I know an elderly gentleman who lives a fairly comfortable life on CPP and OIS (about $14000 a year) and receives about $400 per year in GST rebates - and he spends nowhere near that amount. I agree that a 'mixed bag' is the best approach, but I think the VAT taxes should be higher, income taxes lower, and sin taxes should be almost eliminated. I'm getting sick of this concept that some L-shaped a**hole should be telling me what I should think, do or say... Sorry.
  20. Hmm, a railway across the tundra doesn't seem very practical to me. I watched a show not too long ago outlining the difficulties in running a pipeline from Alaska through Alberta and I cannot see any way that a railway could be built with being destroyed over the ecological and economic ramifications... It will never happen - regardless of any profit/nonprofit schemes... Again, it is a no-winner. (PS: I bought AAPL at $100)
  21. Hmm. The fund was independent until the Chretien/Martin governments changed the rules. At that point all funds were rolled into general revenue (to facilitate their bogus deficit busting agenda) and the legislation was changed to allow different rules for different areas of the country, as well as adjusted to favour certain industries. (eg. fishery workers in the east are allowed to collect without deductions for other income - something that noone else in the country is entitled to). Determination of the unemployment statistics is solely within the purview of Stats Canada through legislation and is a totally transparent calculation with no oversight from the Government in power. Further, I have a real problem with the Left advocating a year of wages in exchange for a few weeks of work. I admit, I did try to collect pogie back in the Seventies - by the time the 2-week waiting period was over I already had a new and better job - and the unemployment rate for teens then was way over 20%. That, (thirty years ago) was the last time I was out of work. WTF should these lazy dips get paid a full year for working 360 hours? Granted, I don't have a guaranteed pension or several months of sick leave payouts, or even any paternity benefits. In fact, I'm not too clear on when the last time I was sick...perhaps it was around Christmas? I regulary work between 45-55 hours per week without overtime, or lunches, or coffee breaks - get real. I even take my laptio home with me at all times. Interestingly, my ex-wife is an "administrative assistant" (she's a pretty good typist I suppose) and she was paid in excess of $60k last year. Not bad for a glorified secretary who doesn't even need to know shorthand... Especially when I don't know shorthand either.
  22. The host thing? You mean where the Liberal Party Hacks called up the Publisher of a well-known left-wing Eastern newspaper with a Bogus Story, which Publisher then instructed his Editor to print the bullsh*t regardless of any facts? Now the Editor is fired, and the Publisher (who is the son of the owner who also happens to own most of the east coast) is on suspension, and the newspaper printed a Front Page Retraction? You mean that story? And please don't get me started on the Pride (shame) Parade...
  23. I see what you're saying - but what about the 'OnStar' systems that even know when you've been in an accident? (at least that's what the commercials say). They must be doing some type of transmitting, even if it's simply by cellular frequencies - it still works. Besides, over the last thirty years I have heard lots of experts telling me what cannot possibly be done - guess what? EDIT: New cars have the GPS built right into the dash - if you know what you're doing you <might> be able to pull the plug - but it's not going to be easy...and there is no OFF switch.
  24. You're joking, I hope?
  25. Perhaps that would work. However, private sector investment is going to be dependent on the potential for profit, which in turn will be dependent on development of mining, oil or other investment opportunities - which in the current political climate will not be popular moves... Further, I'm not sure if you realize the costs of northern development. The community of Iqaluit on Baffin Island is one of the most southern northern communities, yet it costs about $7.00 per kilogram for shipping by air freight. That means, even with food subsidies, a bag of milk can cost nearly $20.00. Sealift is available, but only a couple of trips per year, and it is not even possible (yet) for most of the truly northern communities. As far as what the government is doing, it may be more than you think. Take a look at http://www.nunatsiaqonline.ca/stories/arti...hern_blueprint/ - perhaps window dressing, perhaps not.
