I still have one of their albums! Alas, nothing to play it on...
-
You would do all this with a minority government? Good luck...
-
No need to worry, apparently the world is ending in 2012 anyway.

Sarah is in charge of the turkey - perhaps that really is the upper limit on her ability? http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2008/11/20/s...o_n_145375.html

Um maybe you should re-read that? It was in reference to the ships being pirated...

You expect the "educational elite" in this province to make sense? Take a look at http://www.theglobeandmail.com/servlet/sto...y/National/home for something that really makes sense...

I suspect that the above is the policy/guideline and it has likely been established at the school board level.

Canadian Banks are NOT being 'bailed out'

Which is not a consumer loan - "a loan that establishes consumer credit that is granted for personal use; usually unsecured and based on the borrower's integrity and ability to pay" Your use of crayons explains a lot... -
Canadian Banks are NOT being 'bailed out'
OddSox replied to Moonbox's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Please try to think this through. 1. The bank holds a mortgage loan. 2. The homeowner owes the bank money on the loan. 3. If the homeowner does not pay, the loan is paid off by CMHC, who insured it. ... 4. The government buys the mortage loan from the bank. Now the government owns it. 5. Just like before, the homeowner owes money on the loan, but now they are paying the government who owns the loan. 6. Just like before, if the homeowner does not pay, the loan is paid off by CMHC, who insured it. How is this bad for the government and/or the taxpayer? -
He did? So far this whole thread has been based on something some Liberal said...and I'm not even sure of that.

See above - These loans are already guaranteed by CMHC. -
Bloc sets its price for support of speech from throne
OddSox replied to OddSox's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
I dunno about that. The Ignatieff fellow looks a little scary, with those bushy eyebrows. I'm pretty sure he's carrying a secret hidden agenda from when he lived down south. (if you know what I mean) -

Heh - true! The 'arts cut' was a measly amount which I think the PCs even reconsidered before the vote - but Gilles is still trying to make mileage out of it... -

This may be true, but the fact remains that the Bloc has a significant amount of power in this minority government - at least until we get some sort of indication of which way the Liberals will jump. (edit: or if they will jump at all. ) -
Ottawa weighs asset sale to avoid deficit
OddSox replied to jdobbin's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
I've read that truck traffic is heavily subsidized in comparison to rail - especially in terms of highway maintenance costs due to truck traffic. -
It's really tough when you need a vehicle that can tow the motor home in the summer - and still take the hockey team for pizza in the winter...

Ottawa weighs asset sale to avoid deficit
OddSox replied to jdobbin's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Yes, but it does make them pay for it!!! -
No, just a quick 'adjustment' and send them on their way...

http://www.canada.com/ottawacitizen/news/s...14-cbd0e5332700 "The Conservatives got the majority in Canada, but the Bloc Québécois got the majority in Quebec. Stephen Harper should therefore respect the democratic choice of Quebecers by showing openness, making compromises and respecting the values and interests of Quebec." I wonder if perhaps the Bloc is a bigger enemy to the PCs than the Liberals?

Canadian Banks are NOT being 'bailed out'
OddSox replied to Moonbox's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Listen closely: The banks are short of cash - which is why they are selling the mortgages to get cash. Then they can lend the cash to other banks and also to companies who need cash to pay their employees and to run their businesses. Listen closely: These loans are already guaranteed by CMHC. There is no risk of government money being lost. Huh? -
Lots of cars available now that would meet that requirement. People aren't buying them - the cost is prohibitive and many don't like the limitations (in speed and range).

Canadian Banks are NOT being 'bailed out'
OddSox replied to Moonbox's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Um Hello? Read the title of the thread "Canadian Banks are NOT being bailed out". There is no tax money being given to the banks. -
I suspect that she will have a different opinion once she reaches high school...

Are they planning on spending as much as they did the last time around? According to http://www.elections.ca/scripts/webpep/fin...ary_report.aspx the candidates for the last Liberal Leadership campaign spent over $12 million, with contributions of less than $6 million (probably out of date). I suspect these donations probably take away from the amounts that would normally be donated to the Liberal Party's 'war chest' - $12 million would mean a big difference in an election. Summary of Total Expenses by Contestant: Bennett, Carolyn: $254,863.57 Bevilacqua, Maurizio: $700,775.79 Brison, Scott: $593,637.24 Dion, Stephane: $1,882,367.92 Dryden, Ken: $650,266.46 Findlay, Martha Hall: $422,958.08 Fry, Hedy: $194,779.05 Ignatieff, Michael: $2,316,027.85 Kennedy, Gerard: $1,425,086.09 Rae, Robert Keith: $2,989,822.42 Volpe, Joseph: $768,110.13 TOTAL: $12,198,694.60 What do they spend all their money on anyway? I mean; you go to the convention, make a few speeches and everybody votes. Should it not be that simple?
