  1. Well, somebody resurrected this thread so... I think there are many people who believe that the less time "they" spend "governing", the better it is for the country...and that is only partially tongue-in-cheek.
  2. Hey, the same thing happened in 1970 (when unemployment was something like 20% rather than the single digits we have now), and in 1980 (when homes in Alberta were selling for $1.00 and mortgage rates were 22% or so) and in 1991 (and will happen again a decade or so from now). EDIT: Interestingly, huge spikes in oil prices preceded every one of those recessions...just sayin'
  3. Interesting. However, there does appear to be a definite trend since the end of July - and another poll this morning put the Tories at 39% again...
  4. I'm pretty sure this whole issue was just covered last year - http://www2.parl.gc.ca/Sites/PBO-DPB/Defence.aspx . I doubt there has been a huge change in the few months since then...
  5. A whole 500 workers? August 2009: - Health care field (includes Pharmacuetical?): 1,940,000 workers - Information, culture and recreation (media?): 795,000 workers - Manufacturing: 1,738,900 workers Across Canada? 16,807.400 jobs in August, up 27,100 since July! Yes, Economic improvement is subjective. http://www.statcan.gc.ca/subjects-sujets/l...90904a2-eng.htm
  6. Actually, the hand-sanitizer thing was based on the concerns of leaders within the (dry) communities involved. It was only an issue at the time because the non-alcohol based sanitizers were on back-order and not readily available. http://www.canada.com/Health/Alcohol+worri...5460/story.html
  7. Not even in the same cabinet, let alone the same shelf. You can't be serious.
  8. Why would anyone listen to the UN anyway? Especially on this subject.
  9. Gee, I guess that hit close to home. How about that Red Book?
  10. Platform? Why bother - they won't pay any attention to it anyway if/when they get elected. Did they cancel he GST yet?
  11. StratCoun: Con 35% Lib 30% Ndp 14% Bq 12% Grn 9%
  12. Huh? I thought you guys wanted him to 'work with others' and 'compromise' etc. etc. Do you think a 'no deficit' budget would have passed in the house? If Harper had tried to pass a 'no deficit' budget, the coalition would have implemented their own deficit budget - and once the national child care program, the national unemployment payments program, the national pension insurance program, etc. etc. were included, the deficit would have been much closer to Obama's numbers...
  13. Hmm, what do you suggest? What can Canada do that would make any difference (that would exceed even 1% of the worldwide total in terms of reducing global warming) ?
  14. And Bob Rae was better? McGuinty (read my lips) is better?
  15. Um, Mr. Ignatieff did not say there was a choice - he said "Federal taxes must go up".
  16. Ok, now I'm confused. http://news.therecord.com/article/520203
  17. Actually, that poll wouldn't reflect much about Ignatieff's speech as the poll ended the same day he announced his intentions and hardly anyone would have heard of it. From the story "The latest survey was conducted between Aug. 26 and Tuesday, the day Ignatieff announced his party would no longer support Harper's minority government in the coming fall session in the House of Commons.".
  18. Something tells me there will be a number of 'swine flu' cases in the House this fall - probably about 13 or so.
  19. Hah. This time next week, the Liberals will be down 5% and the Conservatives up 5% - then we will see if Mr. I has any fortitude...
