Risk-averse companies were already planning contingencies before the tariffs were announced. I've a client who imports commercial heating units from the UK to Canada (and sells from there to the USA) and he spent a good chunk of December scoping out warehouses to see if it would be worth importing directly to the USA. He concluded it was better to just stop doing business with the USA, but that won't always be the case...so yeah. I think you're right. I don't think he actually cares at all about Canadian dairy or chicken. It's just another red-herring. I'm sure there are things he wants, but he hasn't really articulated them and he is happy to keep everyone guessing and worried.

Bizarrely we seem to share the same thoughts, especially on the political theatre. I wonder, however, if people are thinking about this the wrong way. Instead of having any real concrete objectives that he wants to achieve with all of this chaos, I suspect the chaos and anxiety actually is the goal. Sometimes it just looks like he wants to break things - alliances, norms, rules etc that he doesn't care for, and make it so they're not easy to fix. This has caused lasting damage to the Canada-US relationship already.

Considering YOU initiated the conversation, the question is pretty stupid and only you can answer it. If you don't want people to challenge your opinions, save your thoughtless ranting for your diary instead. Yes, and ~98% of them think they're dumb, that the justification for them is nonsense, and that they don't actually understand what he's trying to achieve. Now he's talked to Justin and he's backing down (for 30 days) after absolute nothingburger concessions from Trudeau that change nothing. What can we conclude about that? Not much, other than Trump just likes to be the big man and he wants to keep people anxious and guessing.

Sure, but the point remains, none of this makes Trump any less of an assclown. -
World Opinion of Trump becoming President again

I don't think he wants the endorsement either. Give some credit to the guy though. His rhetoric has mostly focused on how bad it is that parliament is prorogued, rather than how we all deserve it like the other quislings on this forum. -
All I did is ask you a question, after you addressed me, and now you're acting out some nonsensical farce that I picked a fight with you. I don't know the answer, nor do the world's top economists and financial firms, nor do most of the world's leaders. Somehow Army Guy has it all figured out though....🤣

I don't think so. Canadians aren't going to take another round of Liberals just because of something trump says. -
So when I ask you to clarify, and you deflect and refuse to answer, I'm the one taking the easy way out. That makes SO much sense. 🤣

Ah okay I see. America is already great again. 🙃 -
Tell me then. What does he want...specifically? What are the conditions Canada needs to meet to get the tariffs reversed? Surely it should be easy for you to lay them out for us.

Winning...what, exactly? Inflation and possible recession? 🤔 -
This is a really weird look for you betsy. Trudeau is a clown and he's already resigning, but you seem to be reveling in the Orange Baboon's useless grandstanding. Trump doesn't even know what he wants to achieve with these Canada tariffs. He just walked into the room and took a shit in on the table in front of everyone, just to show everyone he could.

The incompetence of Biden/Harris doesn't make Trump any less of a clown. Americans will very quickly discover they aren't getting what they bargained for. -

It was something like 33% of Canadians view him favorably, but that was last year. This may be a come-to-Jesus moment for a lot of them, but the dumbest amongst them will cheerlead for the Orange Blob no matter what. -

Okay. Make sure you bookmark this comment for later. If Orange-Man says so, it's true. It is it is it is. Yup yup. -
There's no winning for either side. If Trump was actually interested in policy objectives, he'd make clear demands and negotiate them rather than conjure up fantasies about the Canada-US cross-border fentanyl trade. What he's doing here, instead, is to walk into the room and take a big shit on the table...for reasons.

If by long and healthy you mean a blow out in 2 years. The average American (the ones that don't like their own buttholes), will sour on Trump when they realize he's sending them into recession to stop the non-existent Canada-US fentanyl drug traffic. -
The Orange Baboon has a simple mind and responds to simple things. There's no reason whatsoever to slow-roll anything with him. Phasing the tariffs in gives him an off-ramp (and I'm sure Canadian leaders would be willing to massage his ego if he asked) but also sends the signal that we're not playing games. Canada has way more leverage than this clown pretends. There's no doubt that the Canada depends on the US less than the other way around for trade, or that they can make Canada "lose" a trade war, but there's no winning for them either, and we can make it very painful. We're still their biggest export market. We can still deny them ~$100B a year on patent royalty payments we're not required to honor sans trade deal. We can impose export taxes on the things the US can't replace cheaply like oil, aluminum etc, and send them to competing markets instead. The MAGA donkeys laugh at our threats and the disparity in economic power, but it belies a comical misunderstanding how economics work. It's cutting off the nose to spite the face.

Ignoring the MAGA Hyenas

I'm not sure what you think people's motivations for outright lying would be on an anonymous internet forum, but you're not going to have good-faith debates when accusing people of deliberate deception is so often your opening move. -
I imagine the Trudeau looks at the United States and how the checks and balances have been eroded, and has overreacted. As with so much of the rest of what he's done while in power, the virtue signaling IS the goal though, rather than practical positive outcomes. I can't really disagree with anything you're saying here.

Surprised by what? That you've had to retreat to inane, nonsensical quipping as soon as your clownworld reality gets challenged? Don't be. There's 61 pages of you doing that here. 🤡🤡🤡

You don't like answering questions, when you know the answers make you look stupid. Clowns will be clowns I guess. 🤡🤡
