  1. The period of history in the 1890s was not perfect but good. Ordinary people could travel, cross borders. Buy products from abroad. I have travelled around the pre-war cities of Austrian-Hungary. They remind me of Montreal today. In the 1990s, too, it was good. Ordinary people could travel. China and Russia were open. ==== In Summer 1914, the European elite for no reason, commit suicide. They f*cked up the life of everyone, I fear that our current ellite in these 2020s is about to do the same.
  2. You are thinking like too many Americans. You think that this is the world of the 1930s Queenmandy, you think that Putin is another Hitler. I strongly disagree. ====== IMHO, we are in a world similar to the 1910s. As then, there is the potential for collective suicide. I think that now, in the 2020s, we are in a world that needs negotiation, a new structure pf peace. The cataclysm of Summer 1914 was avoidable.
  3. In America, there is a society creating rich people. Various US governments can tax them. Ordinary Americans are willing to pay taxes. ==== In Ukraine (and Russia), people run away to avoid taxes.
  4. Pronouns. I have found this recent idea revolutionary. In English, a cousin can be either female or male. But a sister is female and a brother is male. In other languages, a cousin can be a sister/brother or the son/daughter of an uncle/aunt. In many languages, there is the distinction between your father's brother (uncle) and your mother's brother (also uncle - in Englsih). Indeed, many languages -typically Asian - make a distinction between -have a specific word - for your mother's older brother or your father's younger aunt. ==== American English is familiar (like Quebec French) - but still identifies who is who.
  5. In my next Canadian election, I intend to show my purple right thumb. Hold it high. I voted.
  6. IMHO .as in the 1910s, .we have a clueless elite - about to fight ==== This is not the 1930s. It is the 1910s. I'm with Pierre Trudeau Snr.
  7. That is the opinion of Mearsheimer. === In many ways, I agree with him. In others, I disagree
  8. We Canadians get along. What is happening in Europe now - we must get along. ==== With Trudeau Snr, we got along
  9. Trudeau Jnr: Ordinary Canadians have never been better Poilievre: Ordinary Canadians have never been worse ==== I have a different view of Canada.
  10. It is a secret ballot: a secret choice But the signal/fact of voting is different. ===== America is great. People vote freely.
  11. Myata, I have wondered about the origin of the European Wars between 1914-1945. I went back and looked at the Thirty Years War- 1618-1648. Or the Napoleonic Wars, 1789-1815. How did they start? === Churchill had a theory about religion/nationalism. Thatcher's theory was that the British always sided with the minority continentals.
  12. Only two years back? Russia invaded Crimea in 2014. Surely you mean 10 years back. But according to many Americans, they lost in Vietnam in 1975 - but Reagan defeated the Soviets in 1989. Americans are bad at math but can put a man n the moon. Go figure. ===== We are in 2024. I reckon that we need a new way to get along.
  13. Trump merely wants to rule America.
  14. On the contrary. Trudeau, like Kissinger and Nixon, favoured counterweigths. ==== Biden wants to rule the world.
  15. I am Canadian. I want people to get along.
  16. CdnFox, I am not asking anyone to show who they vote. ==== Democrats - since 2020 have discovered Kryptonite. Mali-in voting.
  17. Borders? Define such a name as y kraine. ==== I am Canadian. Pierre Trudeau taught me about the dangers of nationalism. In the 1930s, we confronted ideology. But the origin was in the 1910s.
  18. IME, Canadians love when Americans speak about them. As if Americans care. Americans think about Canada in the same way that English-Canadians think about Quebec
  19. 1. This place on the river in front of the Governor General's place cannot be changed. It is a short drive to the parliament. 2. Demolish the building. It has no historical significance. In the snow, I have walked around Trudeau's infamous swimming pool. 3. I have never been to the house of the Australian PM. Years ago, I walked by 10 Downing Street. 4. I have stood in front of Argentina's Pink House. ===== I reckon that we need a place (without asbestos, but with a cat) near our head of state.
  20. Let me add this about Truman. Key West. It is a wonderful place, Eisenhower had Camp David.. Nixon had San Clemente Trudeau had Lac Harrington.
  21. In Potsdam, Truman told Stalin what was to happen. I have been to Potsdam, walked around the room where they met. ===== Heck, I have been to Yalta - walked around the courtyard where Churchill, Stailn, Roosevelt sat. Truman, a poker player, approved the dropping of two bombs.
  22. For America, what is a win? Thiinking back in history, was your involvement in Versailles 1919 a win? ==== To me, Europeans between 1914-1845 once again fought - and Russians defended themselves. You Americians -like Sweded - show up, or not.
  23. I have walked around Beaumont-Hamel. Newfoundlanders. But this was 100 years ago, or so. (Trenches still exist.) Heck, curious, I walked around various battle sites of the Seven-Years War, Napoleonic Wars. ==== Tactical nuclear war is different.
  24. No chance? America dropped two bombs on Japan.
