Our RRSP dates from the federal Liberal budget of 1957 - St-Laurent. Your 401k dates from Carter and 1979. Both schemes correct a distortion, and allow people to save for retirement.

Putin orders people to wave. Trump has many people arrive - voluntarily. Biden avoids crowds.

Hey - no response? Total silence?

I completely disagree. Western Ukraine (Galicia) was a civilised place. Lemburg was like Montreal.

Montreal: Cars vs Bicycles -Huge Waste

In CO2 emissions, we Quebecers waste our hydro-electricity heating our homes. We should be selling this resource to Americans at a high price. ==== The STM is a large user of electricity. In the future, the REM also. -
In 1867, heck in 1763, religion was a big part of Canada. --- True, I agree. Few people now go to Mass. Some get hitched in a church. Some people make it a big thing. Yet, we get along.

In all honesty, I wonder why Putin has made this official State visit to North Korea. It is a show for the locals - Russian TV. Like Biden, he wants to show his ego. As kids would say, he wants to flex. For everyone else, I suspect that it is a sign of weakness.

Montreal: Cars vs Bicycles -Huge Waste

Cool! ==== Waste electricity locally, and only use the bike a few months of the year? Plante will not get re-elected. This terrasse issue is a killer. -
There are about 100,000 people in PEI. It cost about $1 billion in 1993 to build the Confederation Bridge. The distance is about 9 km. To cross the bridge, it costs $50 for a car. About 4000 cars cross daily ==== I drove on the bridge once, years ago. I took the ferry back to Nova Scotia.

Unlike Amsterdam which is flat, Montreal has three mountains. It is up and down. Moreover, Montreal has lots of snow. On the other hand, Quebec has lots of hydro-electricity. Why are we wasting this resource locally? ======== I suspect that Plante will not get re-elected. The city of Montreal is making the life of everyone worse.

Samolinie? Disagree. We understand one another. Sort of. ==== In a far larger sense, we Canadians - Catholic and Protestant - get along

Lebanon is Montreal, and Syria is Quebec. For many years, 1975-1990 -Syrians looked as Lebanese fought one another. This recent war in Syria reminds me of the CAQ.
-
In so many places elsewhere in the world (Lebanon/Syria). we Canadians get along. To me: Lebanon is Montreal - Laval is Syria.

Huh? Germany invaded France. Twice. France invaded Russia. Once.

Our Census Form vs Their Ballot
August1991 replied to August1991's topic in Canada / United States Relations
A purple thumb held high? It merely shows that I am proud of voting - secretly. Other fingers? As you wish. Of course, in the modern world, -
Wow! 1, Canada matters because we get along. 2. 1912? Pierre Trudeau was born in 1919. He remembered the 1890s - and the collapse of 1914. 3. Divided? Disagree. Many WASPs will vote for a guy named Poilievre who has a Catholic wife from Venezuela.

Let me add this point about the Cold War, the Soviets. ===== Kissinger understood that the Russians were not merely a player - the Soviets (Communists) wanted to dominate the world. This was a complex battle. When Deng Xiao-Ping opened China and Yeltsin opened Russia, we in the West won. ===== We now need a new structure of peace.

The period of history in the 1890s was not perfect but good. Ordinary people could travel, cross borders. Buy products from abroad. I have travelled around the pre-war cities of Austrian-Hungary. They remind me of Montreal today. In the 1990s, too, it was good. Ordinary people could travel. China and Russia were open. ==== In Summer 1914, the European elite for no reason, commit suicide. They f*cked up the life of everyone, I fear that our current ellite in these 2020s is about to do the same.

You are thinking like too many Americans. You think that this is the world of the 1930s Queenmandy, you think that Putin is another Hitler. I strongly disagree. ====== IMHO, we are in a world similar to the 1910s. As then, there is the potential for collective suicide. I think that now, in the 2020s, we are in a world that needs negotiation, a new structure pf peace. The cataclysm of Summer 1914 was avoidable.

In America, there is a society creating rich people. Various US governments can tax them. Ordinary Americans are willing to pay taxes. ==== In Ukraine (and Russia), people run away to avoid taxes.

Pronouns. I have found this recent idea revolutionary. In English, a cousin can be either female or male. But a sister is female and a brother is male. In other languages, a cousin can be a sister/brother or the son/daughter of an uncle/aunt. In many languages, there is the distinction between your father's brother (uncle) and your mother's brother (also uncle - in Englsih). Indeed, many languages -typically Asian - make a distinction between -have a specific word - for your mother's older brother or your father's younger aunt. ==== American English is familiar (like Quebec French) - but still identifies who is who.

In my next Canadian election, I intend to show my purple right thumb. Hold it high. I voted. -
New report says 1 in 4 Canadians may be living in poverty
August1991 replied to CdnFox's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
IMHO .as in the 1910s, .we have a clueless elite - about to fight ==== This is not the 1930s. It is the 1910s. I'm with Pierre Trudeau Snr.
