Are Nfld and Quebec Sustainable?
August1991 replied to August1991's topic in Provincial Politics in Canada
CdnFox, At present, Iceland has a population of some 300,000. This has not changed for 1000 years. Newfoundland has about 500,000 people - and it has maintained this for several centuries. === Around the world, people know of Newfoundland and Iceland. Who today knows of Lemberg? -
Federal 1861 vs Federal 2024 -No Big Deal?
August1991 replied to August1991's topic in Federal Politics in the United States
The election of 1860 was critical to America's history. This election of 2024 is important - but not critical. -

AG, At critical moments in our short history, we not only have avoided civil war - we get along. Other countries and places are different. Americans celebrate Lincoln. Canadians celebrate Trudeau Snr. Americans celebrate Obama. Canadians celebrate Laurier. -

Disagree. To me? Home. -
My point is different. You Americans -all- think like men. And you are clueless. ===== I'll try to explain/translate for Americans: Foreigners view all Americans as, well, American women view American men.

God bless our monarch - Queen Elizabeth

There are many portraits available - Samuel de Champlain, for example. Or, Terry Fox. More fundamentally, we Canadians must assume our problems; we must understand what we are. We must become a federal republic. -

You Americans manage your problems. This 2024 election is like most - months before, a critical change. -
I'm surrounded by idi*ts. Perspektiv, why do male, uh, chickens have colourful, uh, co*ks.

I have wondered about this. Clooney, Reagan, left, righti - you are all clueless, Why? You are all men, self-centred.

Ontario's first premier was a Roman Catholic. ===== We Canadians have a long history of crossing religious/national lines -

Are Nfld and Quebec Sustainable?
August1991 replied to August1991's topic in Provincial Politics in Canada
Smart elite? Long term, sustainable. Zillions of years I trust Newfoundlanders.. They're practical. ==== Quebecers? Dunno. Quebec women are independent. Russian women love their children. Go figure. -
Are Nfld and Quebec Sustainable?
August1991 replied to August1991's topic in Provincial Politics in Canada
Strongly disagree. ==== Prior to 1914 - like the world today in the 2020s - the elite was smart, but clueless. -
In Canada, in elections, we vote on one day for one person. But in Canada, we also have a complex federal census questionnaire. Voting in the US is now like our complex census forum. Young people have months to get older people to complete the form. ==== When we vote in federal Canada, next time, let us dip and show a purple finger.

On either side in 2020 or so, define a win. In the 1980s, Reagan famously said about the Soviets - Communists, "We win. They lose." To me, this current 2020 war is different.

The butcher of Iran went to hell.

Let the people of Iran decide this in their own way. I think Wilson said such things. -

Sadly, Russians and Ukrainians - fellow Slavs - are killing each other for no reason. But once in Canada, they get along. ===== We Canadians have discovered a way to get along. -

August1991 replied to CITIZEN_2015's topic in The Rest of the World
Huh? IMHO, this whole idea of "regime change" is ludicrous. People change in their own fashion. I reckon that with Afghanistan, Americans merely showed Afghans not to let foreigners in. -

AG, Have you been to Iran? I agree - but not so easy Bill Maher recently asked some Americans to respect other Americans. -
In the 1910s, there were several Balkan wars. The objective was clear. Defeat the Turks. But the Crimean War of the 1850s always confused me. (I remember a teacher saying, "Everyone against Russia.") We call it now World War I - at the time, the statue in Montreal refers to the Great War - because there was a World War II. Indeed, what started this Great War?
