What strikes me about Canada is Montreal. Like Lemberg, it is a city of two languages. Unilingual people who get along.
-
On a flight, I remember a guy (male) removing his finger ring before arrival. ==== In the STM, I recently stood beside a male with tattoos on his forehead.

Other people die. Suffer US bombs and hardware. And this is good for your country? Your reputation? ===== In various ways, Kennedy, Nixon, Reagan defeated the Soviets. For the good of us all. What is happening now in the 2020s has a potential for disaster, like 1914.

About 20% of the population is woke. (I happen to agree with this idea of "woke" - diversity, inclusion, equality.) About 20% is MAGA. (I am not American - but I admire its Constitution. I think America should be great.) ===== In 1964 and 1972, Goldwater and McGovern got about 40% of the vote. ===== With this debate, many Americans took a red pill.
-
Clueless. By your logic (and Biden's), Americans should be building and dropping the bombs in the middle of the ocean. As long as the money stays in America.
-
Returning to my OP: If Trump is elected in November 2024, should we remain part of NATO?
-
You miss my point. In the debate last night, Biden stated that the money was going to America.

Clifford Sifton wanted to populate western Canada with anyone who was not a Roman Catholic, not from Quebec. In the 1890s, Quebec women were bearing children at a rate unprecedented in history Sifton made it difficult for any of these kids to go west. They went south Today, there are people like David Plouffe. I was embrassed to hear his name as "Pluff".

The Intrigue of the 2025 Federal Election

Unlike Biden, Trudeau has over a year before he faces an election. Like Macron, he has time. -
The Intrigue of the 2025 Federal Election
August1991 replied to WestCanMan's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
By-elections are a protest vote. 1. It will survive. As usual. 3. I reckon Quebecers off the island are in a CAQ mood. 4. Possible. 7. If the federal Liberals do a Kim Campbell, yes. But the federal Liberals at worst do a Dion. -
Lie? Let's agree to disagree. ==== To me, NATO is now a military organisation - an extension of the United States federal govt bureaucracy. George Kennan had a different idea.
-
The specs are American. Standard. I was curious how Sweden and Finland joined NATO.
-
Disagree. No need for NATO. ===== Reagan won. Heck, you ultimately won in Vietnam.
-
But the equipment is bought in America. Trump claims that America pays. We don't buy. Membership in NATO forces us to buy from America.
-
Many Canadians (French, English, whatever) don't like Trump. Often, these English-Canadians don't like America - CBC, Atwood, NDP etc. Yet these same Canadians think that NATO is a good thing. They want Ukraine to join NATO. What if Trump (or someone like him -Nixon, Reagan...) is elected US President? ===== To me, NATO was an arrangement to defeat the Soviet Union. As Reagan said, we won. We no longer need NATO. Nowadays, despite what Trump says, NATO is a way to make Canadians taxpayers buy military equipment made in the US.

Montreal: Cars vs Bicycles -Huge Waste
August1991 replied to August1991's topic in Local Politics in Canada
Bitcoins? A total waste of electricity. A few may gain but overall, it's a great loss. ==== We buy electricity from Newfoundland at Cdn 0.5 cents per kwh. People in Boston pay about US 20 cents per kwh for this electricity. Talk about a mark-up, middle-man - arbitrage profit! ===== At least Hydro-Quebec makes a profit. -
Money? Motivated by money? In summer 1914, several heads of state could have avoided catastrophe - and in effect, their own death. ===== IMHO, this has nothing to do with money. Kennedy was born in 1917 (Nixon in 1913). Both remembered August 1914. Indeed, Kennedy referred to Tuchman's book. Biden was born in 1942 (O'Reilly in 1948). Both remember Hitler.
