  1. As you predicted! ===== PS. Should I buy, or sell MSFT tomorrow?
  2. I met Chretien, Trudeau Snr and Mulroney. I saw them in action. They would never have tolerated this. Said nothing. ====== Poilievre would have said something. At least, Poilievre would have reached into his pocket while Trump spoke and eaten an apple....
  3. We will see what kind of woman she is. Thatcher, Golda Meir. I am not Albertan - but years ago, I worked there, in Edmonton. I learned about this "wonderful" country. ====== We are different. It is good that we get along.
  4. You Americans have a problem with race, skin colour. We Canadians have a problem with language.
  5. I agree that Canada was, as they say, collateral damage. Fifth Business. ==== In 1763, there were about 60,000 Europeans in New France - about half were males. Until 1860 or so, no ship arrived from France. (The British allowed ships from Ireland with Catholics but no ship from France.) Quebec French family names are easy to identify.
  6. Global? Nothing of the sort - except in Wikipedia and the Angloworld, Quebec. The Seven Years War was a typical fight in Europe: whoeveria against whateverstan: Prussians against Austria. As it happens, Britain sided with Prussia - it won. France sided with Austria - it lost. In 1763, there were two treaties: one important signed in Saxony, and another signed in a city south of Paris. ===== Margaret Thatcher made an important remark about the English, the British. Whatever happens in Europe, the English tend to choose the opposing side
  7. Around the 29 min mark in the CBC video, you will see our current PM. And I frankly that you will see his true self - he is a bureaucrat. Ambitious. ==== Carney agrees with those above, a bully to those below.
  8. Ego. Imagine a guy like Trudeau Snr or Mulroney in the room. Stand up. Agree, disagree!
  9. WTF? Our government regulates? Federal or provincial? I have no problem with foreigners identifying French Champagne or Vermont cheese, as long as it is identified. ====== Zillions of ordinary Canadians, mostly in the West, pay high prices for their mozzerala.
  10. Total f-up. ===== Trump made it plain: let's get along. Any normal Canadian would have said, let's agree. Carney? He said nothing.
  11. Trump dominates the meeting: https://www.cbc.ca/news/politics/livestory/recap-everything-that-happened-during-carney-s-visit-to-washington-to-meet-trump-9.6749638 From the start, Carney should have corrected. ===== Carney laughs, sad.
  12. Boring. But smart woman. No Thatcher.
  13. ww1? Great War vet? ===== You entirely miss the point of my OP.
  14. Trust me, Carney is pompous - as a typical Filipino male. Before Trump? He will be different.
  15. Uh no. ===== The WEF is a bunch of rich guys who do whatever. The WTO is a different story. AKA GATT. Good, my opinion.
  16. It is easy to be nationalistic and win votes. It is hard to win votes across many different people.
  17. Make no mistake: Mark Carney is our current federal PM because of Donald Trump. Donald Trump chose our PM. ======= How? Donald Trump opposed "Canada" and the federal Liberals knew how to be nationalistic.
  18. Disagree. ==== This message seems like Parizeau - but it's not. It's more like Levesque.
  19. And is Carney any different?
  20. After the meeting? How they will look? ==== By all accounts, Trump is a decent guy, a gracious host. Carney apparently is pompous, self-centred - the smartest guy in the room. Betsy, you probably read men's faces better than I do. Let's see.
  21. I have absolutely no doubt that Trump will look Carney in the eye and say: "The reason that you are here is because of me." If Carney foolishly answers, "I am here because of the Canadian people." then Carney will have lost the game.
  22. In fall 1976, Bourassa called an early election. (Trudeau had won in 1974, called him a hot-dog eater. It was after the Olympics.) On 15 Nov 1976, Bourassa lost his seat in Mercier. Later, late 1970s?, I first recall seeing Bourassa as a prof at Laval. (Off to Belgium. He had a rich wife.) Then, 1985, he was back. The next time I saw him was in the early 1990s, H-Q building, he was PM. Dark room. His receptionist was a remarkable woman.
  23. Where is Paul Martin? Florida?
