  1. CNN is reporting that Clinton has made a speech in New York saying she is open to a VP position. When someone in her position makes a statement like that, it's tantamount to saying "You want me and my voters? Make me VP." We'll see where this goes.
  2. A really sad outcome. And even more sad is Buzz Hargrove on the radio saying how pissed off his union members were. Toyota continues to expand production in Ontario while GM and Ford workers are being laid off. What's wrong with this picture?
  3. The Ray thing was a case of somebody preying on western ignorance of Arab culture. As another poster has pointed out here, the keffiyeh is as common in the Arab world as a baseball hat here. Arafat's trademark was not the keffiyeh itself, but the idiosyncratic way he arranged it to vaguely resemble a map of Palestine. I always thought it looked like Donald Trump's comb-over LOL.
  4. The provinces have all gone their own way and the feds have basically lost control of the issue. Hard to see how anything productive is going to come out of this on the climate change front. Just as a side comment, though. It's hard to see how Harper could expect sympathy from Ontario, given the hijinks Flaherty was up to only a month or so ago.
  5. I have found the ignore feature to be very calming.
  6. This is exactly the point I was making - that the judge was dismissed for forcing the prosecutor to reveal evidence which might be exculpatory. Amazing where the thread went after that. The guy is a Canadian citizen. The Brits got their "unlawful enemy combatants" extradited home for trial. We deserve no less. Unfortunately, Harper government is selective about the citizens it protects. If you're a weeping woman who is falsely accused of fraud, you get a private jet back home. If you're a Moslem being subjected to a heavily tainted trial process, there is a different standard.
  7. My comments were related to city driving. I don't speed in the country as well, but you have a point. Maybe what we need are more situational speed limits. More expensive, unfortunately, because they are harder to enforce, to legislate, and to communicate to drivers. Is it really more efficient? Would be a good transportation study.
  8. What? A hornets nest in the Middle East? Gads.
  9. I rarely speed, and when I do, it's because I wasn't paying attention and let myself be swept up with the local (ahem) enthusiasm. I don't understand speeding. To paraphrase William Shatner, "I could speed, but why?". I have been often amazed by the coniptions this causes in drivers who are stuck behind me as I putt along trying to drive at exactly the speed limit. Come on folks. At least it gives you time to check your Crackberries. LOL. Do you get there any faster? By a minute? Two minutes? Do you think it really makes a difference? Try obeying the law. It's a lot more peaceful. And it's cheaper too! The idea of paying big bucks for a radar detector so you can avoid speeding tickets that will cost you big bucks is just a little, well, odd...
  10. Well what the hey. Itzhak Shamir and Ferdinand Marcos were once on one of those lists were they not? Come to think of it, so was George Washington! Like them, do you?
  11. Don't hold your breath. I put forward arguments here dealing with matters of transparency and the Jerry Springer crowd erupted in a spontaeous pimple squeeze.
  12. And then there is the possibility that you are wasting time on the witless...
  13. The brothers were pretty much whatever you want to call them, but it was the job of the Ministry to police them. The entire system was built on that premise. It is simply not good governance to expect micro-municipalties (that exist thanks to the good graces of Queen's Park) to determine whether guys like this know what they are doing. As far as Harris rescuing Ontario, this is a guy who simply did not have the senior management expertise to make decisions. The idea that you can get on by hiring good people only works when you have the smarts, the training, and the balls to make the right decision when your people present options. Harris had only one out of three. Not good enough.
  14. Don't waste your time on Bush_Cheney2004. He is usually illogical and just as often irrational. There comes a time when any sane person will admit defeat. When that time passes, discourse passes from the realm of the sane to the twilight zone.
  15. Pickled liver types. I love it.
  16. Anybody wonder why these debates so often descend into acrimony?
  17. Asper's moral compass can be a little fickle. Today's National Post features a front page article referring to convicted felon Conrad Black as a "Prison Professor" because he is giving jailhouse lectures on American History. Beats staring at the walls I suppose.
  18. You must be desperate if you are relying on obfuscation of pronoun references.
  19. There is a saying in the legal profession. Never ask a witness a question unless you can be sure of what they'll answer. Questions, rhetorical or not, provide an excellent opportunity to deflect a debate and make a point. Thanks for the opportunity, Homer.
  20. So he's been convicted has he? The documents which were ordered handed over apparently provide evidence that Khadr may not have killed the army medic in question. My understanding is that he may have been killed by friendly fire.
  21. It was the French who gave Israel nuclear technology back at the time of the Suez crisis. The Israelis have been building on it ever since.
  22. John Tory made faith-based schooling a central platform of his recent falied bid for the Premiership of Ontario, and he almost tipped us over the fundamentalist edge. These kinds of mistakes by leaders can ruin a country. Is it time for Tory to bid his adieus? I think he needs to gather his bags and hail a cab myself.
  23. Huh? Was it a bird? Was it a plane? Personally I believe science over faith.
  24. Maybe it reflects an attempt to change reality.
