Exactamundo! If the US were so interested in preserving the state of Israel, one would think it would be putting its troops on Israeli soil.

There is never going to be peace between the Israelis and the Palestinians as long as the US continues to mollycoddle Israel. It is one thing to provide Israel with the kind of support she needs to continue to exist as a state and another to sit on your hands while, decade after decade, she gets away with the kinds of shenanigans that she so often resorts to. Israel is bringing the US more trouble than necessary. The pro-Israel lobby has succeeded in frightening off many who would rain her in - including George Bush Senior. Junior is of course, well, junior. The US needs an executive branch with the balls to make Israel understand it is time for the tail to stop wagging the dog.

I was indeed born in Canada but I think of myself as a Canadian Citizen. I would not tell people I am a native Canadian. That is a special designation I reserve for First Nations People. Why not? Because the word native has an overlay of meaning that I would not presume to lay claim to.

I'm guessing the morality of the war is not so much the issue with these guys as the contract. You sign up for what you think is two years wanting to help your country and find out later that it is eight? How many here would take a low-paying job where there is a high probability of being killed only to find out that there were weasel words in the contract that committed you to four times more than what you were told eyeball to eyeball? No wonder the recruiters spend so much time going after 18 year olds. Sort of reminds me of the porn industry.

My father served for 4 years during WWII; it was like prospecting for trace minerals to get a word out of him about it. He died without me knowing much more than his rank and the ships he served on.
