  1. Not if the corrupt government elites are screwing you. Hitler and Lenin tricked "the people" into giving them totalitarian non-democratic power. That's the problem, not the interests of the people. Go sell your hogwash to someone else. The enemy is power in the hands of the few, not populism. Lincoln said of the people, by the people, for the people.
  2. Stalin, Lenin, Hitler, Mao, and Pol Pot were totalitarian dictators. They were not accountable to the people in any way whatsoever, and all dissent was crushed and dissenters thrown in jail or killed. The people controlled absolutely nothing under them. Elect democratic governments that work for your interests, not the interests of the rich and elites and people in foreign countries, and hold them democratically accountable. https://owl.excelsior.edu/argument-and-critical-thinking/logical-fallacies/logical-fallacies-slippery-slope/
  3. Democracy is about having "the people" holding the power. Democracy is populism. Show me these times when "the people" have had the power and bad things happened? Every time the elites or a small cadre of people hold the power, bad things happen. What's the "slippery slope"?
  4. Populism isn't necessarily about fascism and communism. It's about policies that are good for the masses of people of that country and their interests, not the interests of the elites, corporations, the rich, or people living outside their country. Populism isn't about extremism. The US needs leftwing and rightwing populism. Canada needs more rightwing populism, but I'm not sure Canada needs much leftwing populism because we have strong socialism as it is that meets our needs pretty well. The US needs leftwing populism because of the crappy situation with their healthcare and education. But that's up to them to decide I guess.
  5. I don't trust Trudeau etc, but I'd trust them more than Putin.
  6. A frontrunner for me is Dalton McGuinty. For destroying a provinces finances and being so sleezy, lying, and corrupt about. And how his negative impact will be irreversible for decades due to the bad hydro contracts he signed.
  7. What a great question LOL. So many to choose from!
  8. I'm not sure that's true. I think it's more that westerners tend to have self-hatred and a guilt-complex so it's cool to bash them. Whereas China well they're minorities so be nicer to them.
  9. Sounds like he was tripping up on his words. I want to see where he says it more than once.
  10. Oh come on dude. The government isn't at the hospital in Canada determining the cause of death, it's the doctors. Doctors aren't as political. In dictatorships the government has total control and can release, change, or not release whatever they want.
  11. Russia has 3x the cases as Canada but only 2000 deaths. What a load of lies. Numbers coming out of dictatorships can't be trusted.
  12. I've never seen a man so brilliant and so stupid at the same time as Trump. He's quite the character. He could have gone down as a great POTUS if he wasn't so ignorant and arrogant.
  13. I find it fascinating how the personality flaws of both Trump and Trudeau have led to people around them getting COVID. Trump & co. with their arrogance/ignorance, and the Trudeau's with their naive openness/globalism. Adapt or die. I love how COVID is showing all the BS for what it is: BS. You hang on to irrational notions during an emergency and it will cut you down.
  14. Changed my mind. I used to not want this app. Now i am the app. Feed me your data everyone.
  15. Yes of course I care. I resisted text messaging for years, then resisted getting data on my phone for years. But if you want to be a part of our society eventually you have to get this crap because everyone else uses it. Unless you want to live off the grid in the woods. I'm as careful as I can be. I only download apps on my phone I need. When I don't need it anymore, it's deleted. I use a VPN. But it's a losing battle. But I'm still not putting a tracking app on my phone, it's just never going to happen.
  16. Why would I want a foreign government or company have access to our data? There should be privacy laws protecting all of our data, but there never will be.
  17. I would destroy my phone before installing a mandatory tracking app. Our governments are liars, power-seekers, and can't be trusted. They can't even design functional software to pay their own employees (Phoenix), I'm not going to trust them with my tracking data. Don't blame me if people die because of it, blame them. In a perfect world, if 100% privacy was guaranteed, the app secure from hacks etc., and contact from the app when a person is in contact with someone with COVID was automated and out of the hands of humans then maybe I'd consider it, but that will never ever happen.
  18. Are you kidding me? It's illegal, for good reason. US and Canadian companies put in the money and resources for all the R&D to invent the IT and whatever else, and then the Chinese just steal it and reap the benefits without paying the R&D costs and patents etc. They're free-riding. If you want to hurt and even put Canadian & US companies out of business to save a few bucks at Walmart while making a totalitarian country that wants to dominate the world richer, great. https://nationalpost.com/news/exclusive-did-huawei-bring-down-nortel-corporate-espionage-theft-and-the-parallel-rise-and-fall-of-two-telecom-giants
  19. https://globalnews.ca/news/6910721/coronavirus-researcher-shot-dead-pittsburgh/ Chinese-American researcher ‘on verge of making very significant’ coronavirus findings shot dead: reports
  20. https://www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-51288854 US charges three researchers with lying about links to China Harvard department chair Charles Lieber is accused of lying about his connections, while the researchers were charged with being foreign agents. Mr Lieber allegedly accepted more than $1m in grant money from the Chinese government. The filings say he was also given more than $1.5m to establish a research lab at Wuhan University of Technology Prosecutors said Yanqing Ye, a Boston University robotics researcher, concealed the fact that she was in the Chinese army. Ms Ye is accused of falsely identifying herself as a student and also continuing to work for the People's Liberation Army, while completing a number of assignments in the US. Cancer researcher Zaosong Zheng was arrested at Boston Logan International Airport with 21 vials of biological samples in his bag. Prosecutors allege he was planning to return to China to continue his research there.
  21. They want information for all sorts of reasons, including security and enforcement. The Liberals wanted to go into our bank accounts last year to siphen our financial data, for stat purposes. Harper's gov, for security, among other things: Harper’s attempts started with 2009’s pairing of Bill C-46, the Investigative Powers for the 21st Century Act, and Bill C-47, the Technical Assistance for Law Enforcement in the 21st Century Act, which sought to extend lawful access provisions and created warrantless police access to many aspects of Internet communications such as subscriber data. These were eventually withdrawn, but re-emerged in 2011 as Bill C-30, which also sought to extend police powers and require telephone companies and Internet service providers to install surveillance hardware. http://www.theharperdecade.com/blog/2015/8/4/harpers-surveillance-decade
  22. Yes. As always, it's hard to time the market, so it's impossible to know when we'll hit the max market low of all this. I think it was in march, there was a lot of panic. I can see the market going down from now as losses mount as you say and real economic data keeps coming in, but will there be the same panic selling? Again, i could be wrong, nobody knows because nobody can predict the future. I remember you saying you bought oil a few years ago when the oil market first tanked. Hope you sold it. I've decided never to touch oil, it's too political, not based on market factors.
  23. Well Warren Buffet on the weekend revealed he's sitting on over 100 billion in cash still in Bershire's reserves. He's waiting for an opportunity to buy in on a low. The economy had a strong low in March, but he said the US feds came in and injected cash quickly before Buffett could make a move bailing out a struggling company.
