Housing Market in the big cities
Moonlight Graham replied to Independent1986's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Our governments (federal, provincial, and municipal) are corrupt. When rising housing prices greatly benefit massively powerful & wealthy entities like developers, rich land owners, mortgage brokers, banks, real estate companies etc. and they have political influence on our politicians, there is little incentive to change things to help the little guy unless it becomes a key election issue. It's not just foreign investors, it's allowing domestic investment speculating too. A ton of people living in Vancouver or Toronto etc have investment properties along with their own home. If you don't live in the house you own, why shouldn't you pay a big tax? Then you have these big cities being the place where new immigrants concentrate, putting more pressure on demand. Now add cheap borrowing interest rates since the 2008 recession, plus the real estate market always figuring out new ways to make bidding go higher, and now we you have the current situation. Major regulation is needed, but it won't come unless the whole system is at clear risk of collapse, and then it will probably be too late. -
That's racist!

How much refugees are costing us
Moonlight Graham replied to Argus's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Yes they were immigrants, just of a different class, called asylum seekers. You don't know what you're talking about, you're defining your own terms. Asylum seekers don't have to apply before they reach the borders of the new country, they can apply at a port of entry or whatnot. If you're fleeing for your life you aren't going to waits months to get a letter back in the mail. A migrant moves from one place to another, within or between countries. An immigrant is a type of migrant who moves from one country to another. -
It was a joke, sorry to offend. I ain't go no issues with Jews or Rue.

The definition of a migrant is someone who moves permanently to another country. Economic immigrants and refugees and all types of immigrants are migrants. -

A migrant is any immigrant, which is different than a refugee. Immigrants tend to do alright, many refugees don't. I think they're using the wrong terms. Maybe they mean asylum seeker? -
You Jeuws and Mosloms are always fighting, leave me out of it yo. You could be right on the other hand, whats the evidence though?

That's actually not true, I try to find some kind of balance between the individual and the collective good. I'm fine taxing the rich more, and i'm fine taxing the very rich quite a bit more. But I'm not going to order people to spend their money in a certain way. I agree with what you say about too much individual freedom.

The government wants to save people with borrowed money, because Canadians want to be saved. They don't want to be responsible for themselves. They don't want to have a few months salary saved in case of emergency, they want to blow that money on vacations and a nicer car and borrow more money for housing and toys. The Queen's money-nipple is out in full force these days, and most of us are happy to suck on it. Looks like Canadians have never grown up and left the nest yet. Still living with mommy bird, Queen Elizabeth II. And when the Queen's teet dries up, well just borrow more milk from someone else. Free milk for everybody!

So you support lifting flight restrictions between Canada and China? You're brilliant! Maybe we should all hang out with Chinese people in Chinatown too, maybe some hugs and kisses too. I wonder which location has a higher % of people with COVID: Chinatown in NYC or Yellowknife? We also need to stop telling gay men to wear condoms just because statistically the tranmission of HIV is higher among their population...i mean it's homophobic! I hate facts and statistics that are racist, sexist, and homophobic! TRIGGERED

Doing undesirable things to non-whites is racist. I wonder if firing a non-whites will soon be not allowed, cuz colonialism et al. Visible minority, people of colour, racial minority...all code words for non-whites. Whites are oppressors, non-whites are victims. So much guilt, nothing left to do but for whitey to hate themselves. Whites aren't even human any more, but a sub-species of human so evil beyond belief, while non-whites would never do the same if in the same situation. So we can't ban travel from China ok, at least our white male PM can't. Guess we should only have impoverished disabled aboriginal cis LGBT women of colour as the PM from now on so they can make all the tough calls like Chinese travel bans. We see that only non-white comedians can make racist jokes these days, it should transfer to politics.

Dougie had it pegged pretty early about the coincidence of the Wuhan origin of the virus and China's national virus research lab in Wuhan. He's just a dude on a stupid message board, don't you think CSIS, the defense establishment, or anyone smart around the PM might be sniffing that possible trail in February????? History is happening right now. Are we going to be Neville Chamberlain or Winston Churchill? Looks like Chamberlain so far for Canada...

What does it matter. We're rotting from the inside anyways. During WWII, Canada set up internment camps for Canadians of Japanese, German, Austrian, and Italian origin, for those considered a possible national security threat. Of course, you only hear about the Japanese camps, and we apologized and gave the families 300 million in compensation. IT WAS AN EXISTENTIAL TOTAL WAR. Now we hesitate to ban travel to China "cuz ma feelings". All of the intelligence in the world doesn't mean jack when the decision-makers dither and roll over on their backs. Darwinism: Adapt or die.

"You people" LOL. Now you're throwing people into boxes and stereotypes. It's "us vs them", eh? Here by my side an angel Here by my side the devil Never turn your back on me Never turn your back on me again Here by my side it's heaven Here by my side you are destruction Here by my side a new color to paint the world Never turn your back on it Never turn your back on it again Here by my side it's heaven Careful, you be careful This is where the world drops off Careful, you be careful And you breathe in and you breath out for it Ain't it so weird how it makes you a weapon And you give in and you give out for it Ain't it so weird how it makes you a weapon Never turn your back on it Never turn your back on it again Careful, you be careful

You don't agree with what others say and somehow I'm culpable? You have no evidence for your above claim either. You're criticizing people who are jumping to conclusions without evidence, and in the same breath willing to jump to conclusions & speculate on what I believe, without evidence. Pot, meet kettle. Like I say, liberals and conservatives are 2 sides of the same coin.

Sure, but would you give a million dollars if you didn't know either way? Western relations towards China are an utter failure of foreign policy. We should have put them in their place decades ago when we started drastically increasing trade with them. You don't follow the rules, you don't get trade. We beat the USSR and then immediately let China walk in the front door!

The OP title doesn't say the virus came from the Wuhan lab, it says it is suspect. And the lab is a key suspect here for the origin of the virus whether you admit it or not. Trudeau gov sent 830k for research going on in that lab. High probability that the team of Canadians in that lab are also made up of mostly former Chinese nationals. Are these people on the up-and-up? Only a fool would give that money to them at this time. China certainly doesn't need any money for any research either. Canada loves to bend over and let others give it to them up the rump. Like open your eyes Liberals FFS.
