Even though Manley has opted out....what is the deadline to opt in? There has to be someone better then Rae and Ignatieff as a frontrunner.

Mr Canada. One day you are oozing with Maple syrupy goodness, praising glorious leader. Definitely good on pancakes, but in moderation (IMHO) However you use salt on French Toast. Where, where is the maple syrup for the French Toast? Did you use it all up on your loving praise of all things Harper? I know I said DION IS TOAST...., but I thought then you might have saved just a bit, you know, share a little of that syrupy goodness, before he gets tossed aside. Seriously, if you are so quick on the Report button, you best moderate your own posts. Otherwise, get a thicker skin, cause most people here are pretty good all around. (Except for.....well, those guys, er know who they are, UM dancering around, and dobbining the hard questions) That said, Dion still owes money, the Liberals are broke, and, Manley has just said no.

I will concur with that assessment over my previous statement.

You need to rephrase...... The Federal Tax rate for Industry is higher then the Ontarios Tax rate on Industry. And Ontarios Tax rate will still be lower then the Federal one, after the Projected Federal Tax Cuts. That said..... Disputing your "Highest on Earth" bombast, I have bolded those provinces with the same or higher corporate tax rate. Newfoundland 5.0 Prince Edward Island 16.0 Nova Scotia 16.0 New Brunswick 13.0 Quebec 11.4 Ontario 12.0 Manitoba 13.5 Saskatchewan 10-12. Alberta 10.0 British Columbia 12.0 Federal 19.5 ...... On top of that, Lowering the corporate tax rate does benefit a business that isn't making profit. And lowering the tax rate, as has been done federally has not stopped and will not stop the relocation of production facilities offshore. It only gives profitable companies more monies to leave. Which to many economists is just fine. That said, the only Province competitive with US state only corporate taxes is ...... NEWFOUNDLAND. Now sing everybody.... Oh Danny boy.....

The Ontario Liberals, much like the Federal Conservatives have had their heads in the sand for at least 2 years, completely ignoring and disregarding the trend in the economy. Even today, I don't believe these two governments get it. They still harp on Automanufacturing like it is the be all and end all, or that industry is old. E.D. Smith is closing a 5 year old food processing plant and relocating to the US. The Ontario Liberals have spent money like drunken sailors, and have little to show. The Federal Cons and Provincial Libs engage in corporate welfare with no strings. Infact, the CPC have just made it easier for companies to pack up and leave. To think that the Ontario Liberals have NOTHING to do with the fact that Ontarios Economic Engine is collapsing, while they fiddle is absurd. Never before has Ontario collected. While this sum of 347 Million is not large in the grand scheme as it doesn't offset the small defecit that the Ontario Liberals are projecting. 500 Million, there is a huge problem with the amount of Government Spending and handouts the Ontario Liberals have engaged in. They have little to show for the 33% increase in spending. Now the hard times, (that should fool nobody who pay attention to Ontarios Econony, especially the government,) The Liberals have NO PLAN. They have no plan 1 year after being re elected. The Ontario Bubble was bursting when they took office. Both the PC and the NDP highlighted major economic troubles, and the Ontario Liberals disregarded all input. If it wasn't decided at Niagara on the Lake, it didn't exist. The people of Ontario re-elected the OLPC because they hadn't screwed up to that point, and the OLPC made hay over John Tories poor decision on Religious Funding. But that doesn't change the economic reality on the ground that the liberals ignored the heart of their economy from South Western Ontario to Northern Ontario. It is a disgrace that Ontario will accept these payments from the Feds for the first time. Seeing Ontarios wages hover near $10 only reaffirms that Ontario will be receiving equalization payments for a long long long time. So while smallc is correct in that the government of Ontario has no role in equalization payments, as is affirmed here.... It appears to me that Ontario receiving more of its own money back, while technically fair, is indicated of a greater storm on the horizon. While the Federal Government policies have direct impact on Ontarios economy the fact that Ontario bleeds is also a direct result of.......... Ontario Liberals ignorance and arrogance.

Then there was no underestimating... But Dion wasn't underestimated by the public. He was over estimated by his party and as such is the only Leader falling on his sword.
-
I think it was quite clear. Harper ran for Prime Minister... was and is...... Dion ran for Prime Minister....wasn't, isn't and ain't gonna be. Layton ran for Prime Minister...wasn't and isn't and will be around in the minority parliment. May ran for Dion.... see Dion above. Duceppe was not running for Prime Minister. I believe the difference is... People in the media, and Liberals said, don't underestimate Dion. Essentially saying he had a Bush like ability for people to "misundestimate" (BUSHISM) him and for him to come out on top. This did not materialize. Infact Dion performed poorly and made many strategic and tactical decisions. He lived in a "knowitall" bubble regarding his campaign. Harper ran a smooth Campaign. 3rd try, and he messes up less and less each time. Layton, campaigned for Harpers Job. As far as I know, he is still one step closer then Dion. Dion will not be campaigning for the position of Prime Minister again. The NDP campaign did get it right that Jack would be stronger then Dion. The NDP also got it right that the LPC would be engaged in a new leadership campaign after this election. The NDP adds didn't seem to be rushed, so they pretty much had their scripts made up before the election, but I am not certain. May campaigned for 13 seats, then within hours campaigned for none. She campaign for strategic voting, against strategic voting and for strategic voting and against it and for it, and then blamed everyone who voted for not voting for her in Central Nova. Some would think campaigning for a handful of seats would be easier then campaigning for Prime Minister, but she proved everyone wrong. Special deals, $4million spent and nothing to show for it. Meanwhile independents managed to do what May couldn't. Get elected. Dion was viewed as weak for teaming up with May. May was viewed as electorally challenged, both in strategy and platform. Dion was Electorally challenged in Strategy and Platform. May had some media savy. Dion had some CTV difficulties. We didn't underestimate Dion. The Media did OverEstimate May. Politics is like that.

These two under performers belong on the backbenches chicken-nodding for their supper. Ritz is so popular in his own riding, their is no reason to inflict him upon the rest of Canada. His seat is safe and he isn't a shining bright light. Why keep an incompetent around? Does Harper like embarrassment? Lunn... well who knows, there must be something in the water in BC. BC is scandal ridden and it appears that the Police aren't too into Political Scandals. Just another day in Politics to them. Investigage if Lunn was involved in the telemarketing scam and that should be it....... Harper likes big government and is comfortable with his poor quality choices.

I agree with you. Harper is for Big Government, Big Spending. Hilltimes.... Bloc riding transfers $185,000 to Liberals

Wow, Just wow! I have just read The biggest understatement from Mr. Canada. -
I found this thread title. The answer, as of the last election is no. We did not underestimate Dion We overestimated him.
-
I expect Liberals Not to Abstain. I expect them to agree with the CPC. There will not be an election for a few years. No Liberal would ever be stupid enough to give the CPC a majority, by letting them run against Dion again. It would only prove the LPC have continued to make the wrong decisions since his Election as Leader of the Liberal party.

This guy...... is very lucky to get off with tresspassing. because and I think this sums it up about the peeping Deputy Green Party Leader http://www.owensoundsuntimes.com/ArticleDi....aspx?e=1251739

An interesting note on riding-based subsidies. If a candidate gets at least ten percent of the votes cast in a riding, that candidate qualifies for a substantial subsidy of the costs incurred in that candidate's riding campign. Here are the numbers for how many candidates for each party qualified for this subsidy: Conservative: 290 Liberal: 270 New Democrat: 243 BQ: 71 Green: 41 Independent: 4

Rev Jeremiah Wright video
madmax replied to Mr.Canada's topic in Federal Politics in the United States
Yes, it is a terrible video. Not well made, kinda sucky. This is the quality of total losers with no talent. There are alot of poor videos out there. Why punish us with a link to a video that stinks. There is a reason it has only a few thousand hits. Its because it sucks. Find something well made with at least a million watchers and maybe, just maybe you won't waste our time. 12,000 hits and not much happening. Not enough to swing anything, or convince anyone. Mr. Canada, there are thousands and thousands of excellently crafted cheap shot utube videos out there. Find one and try again. -
Nova Scotia should lower voting age to 16
madmax replied to jdobbin's topic in Provincial Politics in Canada
You missed Drinking? I was in the military before I was elegible to drink. It doesn't matter where you put the voting age. Voter turnout will remain low. If the high school students aren't interested in voting by 18, I hardly see how lowering the age to 16 will make a difference. Twenty to Twenty-five years ago it wasn't unusual to have students drop out and start working. This is roughly that last age group that votes. Those above the age of 40. Today, the younger generation is still living at home, young families are "too busy" and don't bother to follow politics. I can't see that changing anytime soon. Even if the schools encouraged 16 year olds to vote in elections, (should the age be lowered), it wouldn't surprise me to see voter participation drop as soon as they leave high school. -

Lower the drinking and voting age to 16. -
The answer is never simple. Business appeared to be quite good in Sask in 2007. Outpacing Alberta. That is impressive. Don't be fooled by Corporate Taxes. Good for banks, good for Cable Companies, sometimes good for manufacturing, sometimes not worth a tinkers damn. There are many ways around corporate taxes. Especially in Manufacturing.
