Canadian Banks are NOT being 'bailed out'
madmax replied to Moonbox's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
I disagree with the whole process. I put money in the bank so they can lend it out. I do alot of business with the bank. They hold my money, and do very well by me. There is no reason for my tax money to go to the bank. They are functioning just fine. They are squeezing small business, and it has nothing to do with anything other then risk aversion, and being tight. If we are told our financial institutions are strong, then we shouldn't be getting into the mortgage business with my tax money. Just look at the Profit the Record Profit of RBC and ask yourselves, how does a company with a 5 Billion Dollar profit last year have a liquidity problem today. Here is all the risks they held and was already accounted for last year during the record profit. So why are we doing this again? -

Apparently Elizabeth May has some splainning to do. What me Worry -
I respect the honesty and candidness of the posters in this thread. You are all sick and deranged. None of you would get hired for this valueable government position. The answer to the question is ...... NO I DO NOT HAVE SEX WITH ANIMALS!!! That is the kind of people they are looking for in Halifax. Those who don't run off to the nearest sheep, or in one sick individuals case, your goose is cooked. This question only proves my point about Maple Leaf Web. Lots of good people who will never hold a job:)

Hi Wild Bill I surrender

It is built with private money. All new roads built are with private money. Selling off government assests is good. The government couldn't run the toll road. It was better to be sold off. And the public should be clearing the road, patrolling the highway, and plowing the snow. The Public must finance these, because the ETR is a taxpayer, and we pay taxes to have our highways ploughed. Its a good thing government sold out early. Could you imagine how much more the government would have lost operating the toll roads? Having the tax payer pay for the highway, sell it off to a private consortium shows shrewed business negoitations. People buy stocks, you win some you lose some. It was a great deal at the time, and it is sour grapes to say you recd nothing in return. There is a beautiful highway with low traffic, easy to use transponders, and an ENFORCED billing of clientele. Nobody gets a free ride. Here are the real costs. This is what a successful and driven government can achieve for the benefit of the privatization and the taxpayer. Those purchases benefited all of us, who choose to use the road. A sunset clause is like handing Hong Kong back to China. There is no reason to have a sunset clause on a private highway. That is a valuable government service that the people in the Province of Ontario want to have so that deadbeats pay up. Wealthy people need the ETR and those new highways built so that they can travel around the Province in comfort, without having to wait in start and stop traffic on the highway. Just because private business collects taxes for the government, is no reason that the government can't return the favour for a profitable enterprise. The thought of people like Wild Bill abusing the highway, and then pulling out the violin because his plates were to be denied, is just another individual trying to take advantage of the Private Enterprise and NOT getting away with it. It is like the Police arresting and the courts convicting a theif. That is paid by the public. If the government isn't going to stand up to these "roadwarriors" who abuse the highway tolls, who is going to do it? Well the reason is simple. Your in insurance, and everyone hates insurance[/b]. Next thing you know, this thinking that the government should be involved collecting your fees, people might say Insurance should be publicly owned. And we don't want to go down that slippery slope. Your private business is to maintain the security of your clients while travelling on the wonderful and safe 407. Infact, there should be 50% discounts on insurance for anyone using the 407 because of its lower traffic accidents. (there is lower incidents isn't there?) There you go again. One mans failure is another mans success. I am thrilled by the 407 and its ability to work with government and not against government. It has been the government that threatens this private business, and that is just wrong. The ETR is heavily regulated on what it can charge and how much it can raise rates. Much like the insurance industry. And how can anyone question the fairness of these rates. Infact some have dropped dramatically since 1997. How can you not agree with this? Back to Sex with Animals

Well of course you have to blame McGuinty and those other socialist hordes who believe that Highways should be public. There are always lessons learned in making a deal. But the Sale of the 407 is a proud Conservative Legacy. It will be a benefit to private enterprise and the success of privatization for the rest of the century. That's correct. And a good thing too. The Ontario Government should have respected the contract instead of wasting taxpayers money. Government should not betray free enterprise and the private highways system. People like Wild Bill need to be on the hook for their actions. Why buy a transponder if your not a proud supporter of the Conservative Legacy. Corruption? The Liberals love a corrupt deal as much as the Conservatives. THey love Private hospitals. Your health or your highway. Lets not split hairs. The Liberals make the same unbreakable contracts with P3s. A private road does less harm. Many people benefit from the private road. Quicker access, less traffic, and a friendly bill that they can afford. Why shouldn't people be allowed to pay to drive past those people stuck on the 401, 403 or QEW? I know many businessmen who love the 407 and believe it is a benefit to them and their business to jump the queu . And the less Tractor Trailors the better.

But these roads aren't public. They are private and the Private Sector is better at handling business of highway management and creation. It is a perfect marriage. The public sector should do the handling of restricting license plates. That is the role of government. Particularly for deadbeats who don't pay their ETR fees. The road is private and if you are too poor, you shouldn't drive on it. Private roads are PRIVATE. It is good, it's smart. Don't worry, the government has no intention of ending the toll. Infact the government has no say in the matter. The ETR is a money maker. The purchasing company has no intention of ending the toll. The road has already been paid for by the company. A few Billion for a Multi Billion $ highway. An excellent business decision, and Mike Harris made it happen. The toll is not extortion. Wealthy people enjoy their low volume super highway. Complete with Provincial Police enforcing the highway traffic act for their safety. The Private Highway is a success story. You should be cheering.

It speaks for itself. Why would anyone question this? Your thoughts ???

I understand that you are using analogies unrelated to the Street Racing Legislation. You can use thousands of analogies, from being picked up off the street for looking like hobo. None of these analogies will have any bearing whatsoever on the validity of the street racing legislation. Show some direct circumstances that demonstrates that the Street Racing Legislation is unconstitutional. I do get it. If that is the argument you are bringing to the Judge, you won't get to the chamber.

These are Private Toll roads. Privatization of toll roads is good. Private highways are good. I know lots of people who like these toll roads. The Conservative Government made it possible for Ontario to have more Private Toll roads. There are more of these roads being built in Ontario. Don't you believe in privatization? Get roads out of the public sector and into the hands of private enterprise? The are making a great profit, and are building roads. People who use them should pay. They should lose their licence across and not be allowed to drive anywhere in the Province or North America if they don't pay up. Innocent people won't be affected by this. Only the guilty who are trying to scam a free ride. If you are interested in Toll Roads.. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Highway_407_(Ontario)

You make some good points.

Maclean's 18th Annual University Rankings
madmax replied to jdobbin's topic in Provincial Politics in Canada
Universitys shouldn't participate in these trivial judgements of Macleans. I used to be intrigued by them, then I went to University and realized Macleans is full of it. -
This isn't a slow news day article. This is an important article. 1) She was kidnapped by the bandits. 2) Luckily she wasn't kidnapped by Taliban as they explained they would have had her executed. 3) Luckily the bandits of another religious group didn't try to market her off to the Taliban. Meanwhile, all parties were involved in her successful release. The CBC, The Prime Minister and Karzai amongst that group. Following the writings of the Christian Group caught in Iraq, they feel that they would have been more successful in their release had it been publicised earlier. You never know how these things can turn out. THis time, it was for the best. We should be cheering.

It was possible then......

You have stated that the GP is needy for public money. That it needs public funding for conventions and ideas. But those on welfare are undeserving. That it is guilt money. Those thoughts are yours.

The emoticons didn't appear. Sorry about that. I believe the riding that you contested, and came a close 2nd in, was merged into another riding by the next election. So, that riding described in Wiki as an NDP stronghold at the time, was changed to prevent you from VICTORY Well, sustainable budgets and balanced budgets are not the same beast. I thought you were suggesting GP anywhere in the world. I was thinking something a little smaller then a Government. Like a seat. I thought of your seat, where you nearly won. And then I checked the riding, saw it had been rejigged, and guessed that might be what the old riding you ran in changed into. I then thought you could help out this GP cause be voting for them. Then I posted their last candidates votes. Hmm, I don't see it happening anytime soon there. Just having fun. Sorry for het cfusnion the confusion.
-
You are one to talk. You ran in a riding, and they got rid to it before the next election. Talk about putting fear into people. Anyways. You can help the GP cause. Here is the candidate in what might be your old riding. Green Kristen Andrews 213 votes.

In a past life, I was Chief Steward. Do you not have management and foreman/supervisors? I have never heard such nonsense. I am not aware of people who get paid to do nothing all day long (OK HYDRO ONE CEOS EXCEPTED). Just what job title and description does that fall under? Do you have a LAZY ASSES position that pays? While I am certain that many people learn how to produce puppies, and I have seen it in non union shops and in the military, the responsibility and discipline lie with the management. I never once had to use lawyers for greivances. It can happen, and that is when neither side has come to a resolution. But if you are wasting members money, then you are proceeding with a bad greivance. If a greivance was not valid, I would never proceed. If it was valid, of course you proceed, its valid. But if you have shaken the tree, and gotten a fair shake, you have to have the ability to tell your member that's it. A greivance doesn't go to the lawyers, without first speaking with the company many many times. Filing a piece of paper acknowledging the greivance is simply enforcing the collective agreement. If there isn't a violation of the collective agreement, why are you filing a greivance in the first place? We have a system of Industrial Relations. At no place in this system or the labour relations act or the Human rights code, do I see any paragraph dedicated to lazzy do nothings. That said, I do know what you mean. It is the few who keep you busy on nonsense and scamming. But that exists in all companies. Union or not. You just get to see it as a worker and steward. It is a thankless job. And everyone jumps down your throat. It isn't one that is easy for a person to accept. I don't know why you would want that kind of aggravation. You shouldn't be feeling the burdens that I have read above. It doesn't sound healthy for the company or you. And it sounds like the company has too much money to care, because they don't appear to concerned about people doin.....nuthun. I have had cars of all stripes. They all break, they all have similar track records, good ones, and I currently drive a Union Made Suzuki. Not bad. My other vehicles that lasted 17 and 26 years were two Dodge/plymouth TC3,omni, and an 1982 GMC pickup and the body just went last year. I also had a few Toyotas and the bodies didn't last 5 years. My wife has a Honda Civic. Its 7 years old, very good car. Its getting ready to rust..I hope it makes it through the winter As for passing on the costs. This Hyundai isn't one I can afford. 2008 Hyundai Azera Prices Base MSRP Brand new $ 35,995 - 39,195 cdn New cars are not always affordable regardless of labour costs and origin.

The tax money is mine. 40% of people don't vote. Its not like voters are pooling their money and dividing it. Money collected from all sorts of taxes, GST, Income Tax, EI, which should be used for infrastructure, health care, employment and other public works, as well as support our military is being used to fund political parties.
-
Clearly you are supporting a partisan position. It supports the need of your party. You don't want your party fundraising to be in the market place of ideas. Where people support them with their wallet and time. You have chosen the path of the public purse. Not the Market. You do understand the irony of mentioning the market place and fiscal conservatism with your hat in hand.

Wow!!! See, I have thought, in my naivety, that Welfare was defined as follows. (Social welfare is government programs that seek to provide a minimum level of income, service or other support for disadvantaged peoples) You see, it is a program based upon need. Many people challenge the "means test" but few would suggest it could ever be completely eradicated. Political Welfare is an "Undeserved Handout" and I am sick to my stomach that the Green Party, with thoughts such as yours, could ever envisions yourselves more needy then people on welfare. For you to suggest that others less well off then yourself are underserved while you need a government handout so that GP can have Convention Money. What a pathetic disgrace. This is why we shouldn't fund political parties. For arrogance like this.
