  1. Like you. That was easy.
  2. No doubt. I never seemed to come across it until today. May a puffin strike me
  3. Jumping off the tax shifting bandwagon? Environmentalists and Economists dispute benefits of Carbon Tax. http://www.thetyee.ca/News/2008/10/30/Carb...campaign=301008 This didn't come out in the Federal Campaign..... And even doing the above, Dion couldn't make it acceptable to the public. So where does this leave the BC Liberals?
  4. We all drive and share the road. Some people forget that no sooner am I off the bike, then I can be in a car. That said, as a motorcyclist, it is not unusual to be cut off. This summer one driver text messaging while she drifted into my lane and put me on the curb next to the sidewalk. My 7 years old niece was killed in collision last year as a passenger in her moms car. I don't wish to get into the skiing, skateboard, bycycling, football, hockey,& swimming debates that can arise. I also don't think you are an unreasonable person based upon your position that you wish to have input into any changes.
  5. A parenting decision was made. I have no problem with that.
  6. http://www.scandalpedia.ca/Scandals.html Ok, I like to google like everyone else. And then this site appeared. I like real sites, and this one smelled of a party hack site. Wikipedia and sites like it I enjoy as there is multiple input, and corrections on the fly. But I find that this site appears a tad to bias and misleading. In other words, I like a good scandal, but I don't like little things being trumpeted as a scandal, when they aren't. Brian Mulroney, makes a good scandal:) Schrieber makes a good scandal. Bernier is a goofball and incompetent. I don't know if he qualifies for a scandal yet. Some Conservative practices are despicable, but that doesn't mean there is a scandal behind them. I believe a scandal is something that the general public has accepted as fact, (whether true or not it becomes a scandal), not issues that could become a scandal but haven't made it to primetime. So, while many of the "scandals" are weak, this site appears to be laying it on thick. It would be a site that preceeds a Scandal in most circumstances. This is my perception of a bigtime scandal of the past. http://www.cbc.ca/news/background/groupaction/whoswho.html Now, until some of these other CPC issues break from the political sphere and into the mainstream public, (and remember the LPC sponsorship scandals were being pushed, back when both Preston Manning and Joe Clark were still around), perceived scandals can disappear. IF this is a Liberal Hacksite, it should be identified as a Liberal Site that highlights Conservative misgivings and potential scandals. And then, at the bottum of the site, as I double check this post I see....... (© 2008 Liberal Party of Canada. Authorized by the Federal Liberal Agency of Canada, registered agent for the Liberal Party of Canada. ) Curses, foiled again No way I fell off the turnup truck Politics is fun isn't it
  7. What I find deeply disturbing with your comment is that you discount the entire political process. You have this false belief that unless you have a CPC rep, you are a lame duck. I can assure you, that I have seen many majority governments, and their is ample ammunition to prove Lame Duck MPs and MPPs who sit on the backbenches of government chicken nodding and woken up when its time to vote. Often the ridings that are ignored are ones that are safe and secure. Most government policies already exist in the bureaucracy, and it is just a matter of having the wits to go after what is required for your riding if it isn't in the cards. I tend to find the MP or MPP finds out what is happening then shows up for the ribbon cutting or certificates being handed out. Often the threat of election and gaining or losing a seat is in the deck, then this is enough to make a government start coughing up money indescriminately and without sound fiscal policy. We saw Harper do this in this election. I have seen Paul Martin do it. There is alot of CPC deadwood representing some ridings. Its just a fact. There is alot of LPC deadwood, but not nearly as much as their used to be , and every NDP seat is up for grabs, regardless of the calibre of candidate. I personally felt that Emerson had no courage. Because he was weak, he did not have the strength to defend his actions. If you look at the CPC numbers, you have to think, how good would they have done with an incumbent, with a track record? Perhaps better, perhaps worse. But you need to provide the data that Emerson, a floor crossing cabinet minister and a high profile one at that, provided anything of substance during his term to Vancouver Kingsway? A person who steps down after 2 years, isn't up to the job. There seems to be little doubt that the people of Vancouver Kingsway made an educated and well informed decision. Perhaps it is easy for outsiders, such as you and me to judge their decision, but we don't live there. The people made a choice between an NDP representative and LPC and CPC backbenchers. This one goes into the Jack Column of this thread
  8. I believe the CPC may move into 2nd place unless the LPC get a wake up call. The CPC were not contenders in 06, but one could suggest they are in striking distance of the NDP if the LPC continue their slide in the next election. An 8% rise is nothing to overlook. Nor is a 14% collapse.
  9. Sorry if I am not up on everything NDP. I find what I can to address weaknesses in various posters arguments. I do the same for all parties if I read something offbase that needs addressing or I think it can get the thread going . It seems that few people here bother speaking of the NDP, so I pick it up when I can. Thats a couple of things i have missed. Guess that's your riding
  10. The young boys/Girls that I race with may be under the ages of 16. They are already on their way to established careers. And yet, I can't take my two accomplished sons up the road on my Goldwing? The government is made up of people. People in government are stupid about certain things. They do not have a monopoly on brains or common sense. That said, many families, and I mean many families travel across Canada the US and Mexico on Motorcycles. Many tourists families use motorcycles like North Americans use Winnebagos. Motorcycling is a family activity. Like Skiing or Swimming. Regardless, the bill is a Private Members. There isn't alot of flesh to it. Infact there isn't alot of anything to it yet.
  11. I guess you never watched Red Green.
  12. There is this from MTO. Figures for 2004 / 2005 Licensed Motorcycles: 135,028 / 145,194 Motorcycle drivers killed: 44 / 68 Motorcycle passengers killed: 3 / 6 Motorcycle drivers hospitalized: 800 / 866 Motorcycle drivers in accidents: 1214 / 1351 http://www.mto.gov.on.ca/english/safety/orsar/
  13. EVERY Liberal candidates platform was entitled Green Shift and quite frankly, without the Green SHift, there was no platform, or anyway to pay for anything. So, a typical politician and Liberal............... who knows what he truly believed. More reason to thank Gilles, Danny and Jack.
  14. Thanks for the posting drewski. And the bill is only on first reading....
  15. http://thetyee.ca/Blogs/TheHook/BC-Politic...ElectionGreens/ Ouch..... This just after the GP and the Environment being front and centre in a federal election.
  16. I wait with baited breath. If that's a trolling post, then I accept the consequences. Yes, that is quite the Prime Minister. And a super Finance Minister. Surplus gone with nothing to show for it. You are praising a Prime Minister for being the Prime Minister? Quite frankly, there isn't any fiscal management to credit the CPC with anything of significance in the past 2 years. I believe they have squandered the piggy bank, before the recession. Brave eh? I personally view him as something other then brave. Often Chippy, petty, and weak. His parties own worst enemy and asset at the same time. Brave Brand of Conservativism? Jim Flaherty, come on , this guy has just jumped onto the Mulroney Deficit Ship. Well, the majority would agree about Dion. However PM Harper and the Finance Minister sat on their hands for their part. Harper showed no plan before the election or during the election. So, being annoited with another minority because of his indecisive treatment of the economy. I would expect nothing less from the Prime Minister who now realizes that the economy has lost steam under his watch. Harper flushed down the toilet $300million of taxpayers money for his own narcissistic trip.Thank God he doesn't have a majority I am not a fan of Bushlite fiscal policy. I also think the Canadian people deserve better. From coast to coast they love the RH Harper. (Sure I can't mention syrup) I think that warm fuzzy sweater, which is very useful in Newfoundland, isn't going to be worn by a Single CPC MP. 30,000 votes on the island is not a show of love. The Conservatives finish 3rd in popular vote in Nova Scotia. And one former CPC defended his seat successfully as an Independent. There is that warm fuzzy sweater in NB but in PEI they still choose the LPC. I really don't know who "Loves" our PM short of his wife kids, and immediate family. (and you)
  17. Dear Mr. Canada I like MAPLE LEAF WEB. I like MAPLE SYRUP even more. Anyone who can lay it on this thick knows his syrup. And this is one of those Sammy Maudlin Syruppy posts that has people drooling. There is more oozing goodness from this post, then I have pancakes. I have broken out the waffles and invited all friend and relatives to taste this new blend of CPC sweetener. They tell me SAP comes from Maple Trees. No doubt there are alot of SAPs around to enjoy this wonderfully syruppy recipe. However, posts that lay it on this thick make me sick. I don't like my pancakes soaked in Syrup. I like my Pancakes with just enough syrup, a little butter, and lightly browned on both sides. It's the best old fashioned way:) I will be tapping the trees in February and March. YUM
  18. These are your words. As London has had the tafiff for a number of years, to reflect that it has had no effect on vehicular traffic in the core, counters your argument about the effectiveness of the Tariff in reducing traffic. (Your Goal). But that is not what you said. However, it is understood that you mean the city. One thing that is crystal clear from your posts, is that you want your Toronto Values, put ahead of the rest of Canada. You didn't say you want a car ban in Toronto. That can be done municipally. You are pitching a plan to ban cars in the city across Canada. You are posting on a Federal Forum and you have not identified why cities should have such a ban? I do know of a smaller city which back in the 80s engaged in such a wonderful practice. They took out the roads, blocked the main arteries and even spent tonnes of money on a Downtown SHopping Mall. They created a road to bypass downtown traffic and divert it to the outskirts. But they did build a large downtown parking further away then the one located in the heart of the city. This new lot few used. The goal to reduce downtown traffic was a success. This had the brilliant effect of Wiping out the downtown completely. I mean completely. The mall did not survive. The small businesses were wiped out. Infact, irony of irony the use public transit declined preciptiously, as there was no longer a need to go downtown. Even the bars didn't survive. Ironically smaller village downtowns rely on the ability of the public to drive in from the country and park on the mainstreets which support the small independent business. You have a Toronto Centric Approach, which may be well and good for Toronto. I don't know. But I do know that you might wish to travel this country. It is really large and diverse and cannot support a one size fits all approach. Batteries are common. There is one in every vehicle. Automotive is my background. The testing equipment I refered to earlier in this thread allows for this..., but hey that was when there were NDP Governments in BC and Ontario. These crazy practices were followed by both Progressive Conservatives, and Liberals in BC and Ontario, and every other mainstream party and every Province across Canada. However in Toronto..... Factories, Dealerships and auto repair centres recycle all their batteries. Why are people in Toronto so out of touch? The City I reside has many days where batteries are dropped off for recycling. It is very popular.
  19. Why are you calling him a crook? Is this so obvious to you, that you might question those who run the GP? Crooked people often seek out political parties of all stripes to get a personal advantage. This person is the Executive Director. I don't believe I see any resignations in the story. You are suggesting that he is a crook. It is obvious to any person of integrity that something is up, when you ........ hire an Executive Director for $1. and pay his wife $74,999 for his services. This isn't normal business for people of integrity. This is very troubling for a party that has been around for close to 30 years and now has government funds to prop it up. Why did the people in charge engage in a type of money laundering to protect the Director from his legal responsibilities. Wouldn't any reasonable person see RED FLAGS when the Director wants $1 and his wife paid the difference for his services? This proposal had alarm bells written all over it. Green Washing.... A whole new spin in the rinse cycle. No one benefits from downplaying the GP role in this scandalous practice. There should be multiple resignations. Unless you are comfortable with the current director and those who agreed to his scheme?
  20. You could join the Animal Alliance Party. That said, with the Trend to Neo Con, Neo Liberal, I think you should take a look at the NEO RHINO party. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Neorhino.ca
  21. The biggest beneficiary of the Liberal catastrophy was the CPC and not the NDP. Don't make assumptions about voter intention. If we knew in advance the intention of the voter, we wouldn't have to hold elections. I do not have a crystal ball on how people are going to vote in the next federal election. We don't when it is going to happen or what the main issues will be on the minds of the people in the foreseeable future.
  22. SInce you wasted your vote, or gave the NDP a $1.95 here is something to look at past the thread title. The NDP lost some ground in BC yet had more votes then the Liberals. The NDP got a seat in Alberta (whodathunkit) and more votes then the Liberals. The NDP got no seats in Sask (whodathunkit) and more votes then the Liberals. Then NDP got seats in Man (ok, thats expected) and more votes then the Liberals. The NDP swept most of Northern Ontario getting more votes then the Liberals. The NDP received more seats in Ontario then the Glorious Ed Broadbent Era. 17 Seats. A record number The NDP held a seat in Quebec. (whodathunkit) but not more votes then the Liberals. The NDP Got a seat in Newfoundland. OK, That must be some friend of Danny Williams. ALberta, Quebec, Newfoundland and Ontarios seat count surprised me. While 3 for their novelty effect, either that or a beachhead. But the Ontario seat count, higher then when ED Broadbent was at his peak in popularity that is a surprise. Ed only had 10 seats in Ontario the year the NDP hit 43. So, enjoy these little bits, since McGuinty is probably going to be your MP for some time, as he pulled ground on the CPC this election
  23. This election felt the same as the Ontario PRovincial. The Government bashing the crap out of the opposition over really poor policy. (Stanfield anyone) It sure was dumb of Tory, and Dumber of Dion. Dumb and Dumber. The Federal Counter part to this is Elizabeth May. Dion wasn't that dumb. He gets booted out of the leadership while holding a seat. Both Tory and May appear to keep theirs while not holding a seat. Jack Layton is one of the few Leaders to pull off going after a strong cabinet Minister and knocking them off in a General Election.
  24. Here is a treat for the Green Party. They haven't even landed a seat yet, and they are already on their way to questionable financial escapades. URL=http://www.570news.com/news/national/article.jsp?content=n102494A remember, the GP do politics differently I believe him
  25. London England, is 1) Socialist not GP. 2) The tax has not reduced traffic by any means. It has increased municipal revenues. 3) London England had the best subway, rail, and bus services long before the existence of the GP and long before the tax bonus. Infact municipal spending requires that people drive in the city or their revenues decline. The car tax is under review, as the government and the people recognise it for what it is. Based on your writings, the only thing you should worry about in London is getting hit by a bus. You are tripping over yourself, good thing you don't drive. This is what you said. That is no cars. Cars phased out. Seems your focus on emmissions ignores other pressures on the environment. While working on emmissions testing equipment, implemented by the BC NDP back in the 80s, I here in Ontario, spent as much time dealing with the environmental problems of batteries and their disposal. Batteries are still separated and charged extra fees. They are harmful to the environment. One thing I used to like as a kid. Those cars in the cereal boxes that ran off elastic bands . There won't be automobiles. You banned them.
