Flaherty to slash public funding for federal parties
madmax replied to jdobbin's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
The Green Party have emailed their members already about the "attack on democracy". The irony being they don't have a seat in the house and therefore have no MPs who can vote. But they certainly know what is important to them. The LPC appear to be backed into a corner, and it the talk is getting serious that a coalition is in the works. This was unthinkable a few hours ago. I look forward to the removal of Stephen Harper as Prime Minister. The shortest government in the history of Canada. And wait. I am starting another poll..... -
Flaherty to slash public funding for federal parties
madmax replied to jdobbin's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
From what I am reading, Flaherty has nothing on offer regarding the economy. I am still looking for a decent article on the subject. That said, they have picked a fight and knew that this would really tick off the opposition, regardless of the measures behind the action, the positions look two fold. That Harper is not trying to work with the opposition but provoke them, as well as put the opposition parties into a position of self interest/survival for some. While there are merits to changes to election funding laws, and plenty of room for debate and implementation, I think the CPC may have done something unimaginable to me................ are the LPC cornered? They may fight back. Or they may not It is clear to me that the OPPO are discussing a coalition. I think there is too much for them to overcome, and this is normally unthinkable. But if it does happen, what is the shortest Minority government ? -

EVIL GENIUS This article is a good summary of the game at play and the players affected. Elizabeth May NDP & BQ The LPC and Harper Well there you go again -
Your vote is the most important thing you can give. People fight for the right to vote. No vote is ever wasted. I don't agree with the whiners who say their vote was wasted and I support PR over FPTP. Political parties alway follow which party has momentum in attracting votes. If your support your party enough to vote for it, walk in and give them $1.95 and buy a round of coffee and donuts for the workers if you have extra cash. Political parties last over 100 years without a handout. The process is also descriminatory. A person who votes CAP or Progressive is by your definition a lessor citizen, because according to you, the only thing that makes your vote important is the $1.95. I say that is bollocks. At least you vote, and if you are going to suggest that should the $1.95 be removed you will not vote, I would doubt that very much.

Earlier today these numbers were tied. Now the tie is broken 9,10 However, according to a poster on babble

I understand that this party rose because of the Mulroney Legacy. Tax and Spend! You are in the wrong thread to defend Mulroney. The question is that the current government has not been fiscally conservative in their spending. They have been wasteful. On top of that, they have been at the trough as MPs. There could be a change to this, if, every MP backs some proposed changes to their pay and perks. It seems that even symbolic cuts to their entitlement are meeting resistance.

Mayor Miller....puts forth another ban.

I use it as short for Green party. But it isn't catching on, so don't worry. -
Mayor Miller....puts forth another ban.

Like many politicians who change their stripes, Mr. Miller dropped his NDP roots a few years back, and essentially endorsed the GP last election. Enjoy Original CBC article -

I just thought I would bump this to the top. This same discussion has flared up again on babble and is just as split in comments. Which is a good thing, because it tells me that this is something open to discussion and is not strictly a "Left or Right" issue. Considering its roots were in election Reform of the National Party, it makes sense that no extreme left or right considered this issue partizan turf. With the economy in the dumps, elections costing $300million+, is this the time to have Political parties belly up to the trough? Is there no other way to handle election financing without it falling into the hands of lobbiests or the tax payer?

Just one problem. Under the LPC the size of theDeficit went down, and continued to go down. It never went up. Mulroney period was not a fiscal conservative with regards to the deficit and debt. and now we are seeing waste of the MPs as they blow our money on expensive trips around the globe. They operate at the trough not the taxpayer. And Harper reigned in no one..... Or perhaps you enjoyed Bernier taking his "travelling Companion" around the globe to serve the taxpayers basic needs. And with a Deficit before the storm, something is fundamentally wrong with this governments fiscal competence.

New laws for young drivers?
madmax replied to Chuck U. Farlie's topic in Provincial Politics in Canada
I don't know. The youth don't vote. My nephews were visiting, and they have all driven since 16 like our entire family. While two of the three are past the age of descrimination, none of them agreed with the new law. McGuinty likes to see protests over the Highway traffic act. It makes him look tough. He feels like Mike Harris when challenged. I find the numbers unheard of in a facebook protest. But facebook is easy. It means nothing. We will see what happens when the electronic masses turn into a physical presence. -

Political Party Welfare is a thread I started and I support the ending of it. Hope you voted in the forum poll that was created by another forum poster who supports that position. We are discussing the federal government, currently run by the CPC who are not fiscally conservative. Many people want to divert attention to other parties, even if the evidence ironically supports the NDP of all parties being the best at not running deficits. It does not matter what other parties federally are doing. The CPC is government, it is what they are doing that matters. And they are running deficits with the blessings of former Reformers in parliment.

Brian Mulroney had an approval rating of 6%. Brian Mulroney is the Worst Federal Leader in Canadian History. He and Harper are going to have alot in common, with their uncontrollable spending and pandering to those lined up at the trough, should they not change their spendthrift ways.
