  1. LOL that is funny, I find it strange that some people do not seem to want a strong leader, unless of course they only want a strong leader when it is a Liberal or an NDP leader. I always thought strong leadership qualities were desirable in a leader.
  2. They will worth together for a while, I predict another election in 2 years. Fortunately people now know that Harper is no social conservative, in fact the few social conservatives are very upset with him over his lack of support for their causes. Another couple of years Agreed about the culture cuts as in fact, spending on culture actually went up. It seems to me there is a very unbalanced presentation of issues in the media as so many Canadians only hear the Liberal version of events (or only hear what they want to hear) This reminds me of the 97 campaign when the liberals paraded around as the champions of health care after cutting health care & education transfer payments to the provinces by 40% between 1995 to 1997. The media forgets to tell us that bit. Overall program spending on culture and arts is up 18.6 per cent. In other words, Conservatives have boosted spending on arts programs faster than they have boosted overall government spending. • The Department of Canadian Heritage will spend $1.4 billion this year, up $273 million or 24.4 per cent compared to 2006. • The Canada Council for the Arts will spend $181 million this year, up $30.3 million or 20.2 per cent. • The National Arts Centre Corporation will spend nearly $50 million this year, up $18.3 million or nearly 60 per cent compared to the Liberals. • The National Gallery of Canada will spend $53.3 million, up $8.8 million or nearly 20 per cent. Having said that, I don't see why we should expect the taxpayers to spend any additional money on arts funding, if we want it, we should support it ourselves and not expect others to foot the bill.
  3. I haven't read the whole thread, no time, but hind sight is always 20-20 isn't it..
  4. I think you hit that nail on the head
  5. Looks like the Liberals might not dodge this bullet, coming during the last week of the campaign. http://www.theglobeandmail.com/servlet/sto...PStory/National Leak of Martin memoirs sends Liberals scrambling Former PM accuses Chrétien of sabotage in biting autobiography DANIEL LEBLANC With a report from Bill Curry October 7, 2008 OTTAWA -- The Liberals scrambled to contain the fallout of Paul Martin's scathing autobiography yesterday, fearing their election campaign could be derailed by accusations that Jean Chrétien deliberately undermined the party before his 2003 retirement. Entitled Hell or High Water, the book is a first-hand account of Mr. Martin's problem-filled stint as prime minister, and will revisit more than a decade of Martin-Chrétien infighting when it is officially released at the end of the month. Mr. Martin gives much of the blame for the short life of his government to Mr. Chrétien, saying his predecessor is responsible for the sponsorship scandal's political fallout and the Liberal Party's subsequent funding woes. The book's content was revealed in a Montreal newspaper yesterday, and Liberal officials quickly clamped down on any public statement for fear of turning the attention away from their campaign for the Oct. 14 election. congt..
  6. LOL - are the double standards just grand. If Harper were 'neo-con' what ever that perjurative is supposed to mean, he would be allowing debate on abortion and SSM. He has declared again that there will be no debate. Actually, the genuine anti abortion social conservates are frothing at the mouther over his loack of such tendencies. Income trusts decision was made to stop large corporations getting out of paying taxes, if he had allowed to evade taxes, then they would be screaming about that. The medical problems and homeless are provincial areas, not federal, the original massive transfer cutting was done by the Liberals. Of course, we both know Bush and Harper have SUV's in the security, guess that makes him a Bush clone LOL
  7. I cannot believe anyone would even ask that question - have these States been making noises about ceceding?
  8. Agree, Harper needs to be a bit more animated and give it back in spades.
  9. LOL might as well be - see - they are playing to the anti Bush anti U.S. sentiment; if they can convince the viewers that Harper really is Bush clone they can score some political points. I didn`t watch the whole thing but didn`t like the format, what I did see showed Harper taking the high road while the other cretins tried to outshout him. Dion and the others got to speak uninterrupted but they didn`t give Harper the same opportunity. I also thought the `barbarian`question from the moderator was out line. I wonder how many people heard the facts about some issues Harper gave out, e.g. increased funding for the arts. It looks like the Liberals will go down in flames, but I`m going to say that it will be a small minority CPC, not a huge landslide.
  10. Yup, especially the green shaft... I think the suggestion to attack Layton is a good one, Dion needs to work on getting the vote from that area or the Grits will be gritless after hte 14th.
  11. What about Dion's plagiarism, no mention of that huh.. http://network.nationalpost.com/np/blogs/f...plagiarism.aspx Plagiarism happens when one person uses the work of another in order to present himself as an expert in a field, when really only the original author can make that claim. This is far more serious because it misleads people. That seemed to be the situation in 2006 when Liberal Party leadership contender Stephane Dion passed off work down by the David Suzuki Foundation on climate change in Dion's own environmental platform without giving credit: Liberal leadership candidate Stephane Dion's campaign hastily changed part of the candidate's environmental platform as posted on his Web site today after a blog reported that part of it were almost identical copies - without attribution - of a David Suzuki Foundation paper published the previous week. cont...
  12. The Tories are moving more to the centre, making the Liberals irrelevant. Could this lead to a NDP/Liberal coalition - probably not the NDP are definitely more scarier than Harper was ever made out to be.
  13. Anyone keeping score, here's another one. Layton says he can stay on cos he's apologized... now who's head where they screaming for a while ago even tho the guy apologized - guess it's only bad when a conservative says something. http://www.torontosun.com/canadavotes/news...907996-sun.html Even though his online posts call an activist a "fascist b----," the NDP is standing by their man in Durham. That isn't stopping the Liberals -- who polls indicate are losing ground to the NDP across Canada -- from continuing calls for Durham NDP candidate Andrew McKeever to resign after several rants on Facebook earlier this year against supporters of U.S. soldiers who fled to Canada to avoid the Iraq war. "So Mr. (Jack) Layton, where do you draw the line on offensive conduct?" stated a Liberal party press release yesterday. "Does Andrew McKeever refect the values and positions of the NDP?" In an election where online shenanigans have felled candidates from the major parties, the NDP says McKeever can stay on because he apologized for the comments. An interview request to McKeever was not returned, but Krystalline Kraus, the activist the bulk of the comments were directed towards, called the controversy a "dirty tactic" on the Liberals part. "If they were so concerned about how I was treated, they would have contacted me first," she said yesterday. cont..
  14. Where has Harper ever said he condoned this sort of activity, get real.
  15. You did, I believe there was another thread on the same subject, this partisan repetition gets boring I don't have the wording handy and no time to look for it right now.
  16. Isn't it Sandra bernhardt, and she's as ugly inside as she is outside Yuck...
  17. Well said... I have to say McCain went up a notch in my eyes and Obama has gone down a couple, I would have hoped that Obama would have taken the situation seriously enough to suspend his campaign and re-schedule the debate. It is my understanding that the debate is not about the economy, it is about foreign affairs, therefore not entirely relevant to the current situation, although does tie in. It would be better if they either re-scheduled the debate to change the topic to domestic affairs and the economy.
  18. I'm going to put this in the same thread, it's worth a read, http://stevejanke.com/archives/273961.php so now who has a secret hidden agenda I haven't listened yet to the tapes.. Liberal Platform Meeting Call: Childcare low priority, gut the military, silence on the Green Shift There are several interesting points. Going back to standard Liberal-style practise, the military is going to be bled dry. Childcare spaces will be made if the Liberals find money after paying for everything else. And the Green Shift? Not mentioned during the main presentation. Seems the Liberals have a leaky ship LOL
  19. I guess this is where the attack start getting stronger and the booga booga rhetoricf starts up again. I'm going to predict that the NDP picks up more support as the Liberals lose more seats. I doubt that Dion can turn things around at this point. http://canadianpress.google.com/article/AL...x8Z1TPLRzIEvsDg Poll suggests Liberal troubles are growing, as Dion moves to attack
  20. Not on my priority list either.
  21. I'm beginning to wonder, I think we should forget the rest of the campaign and just vote now... Sheez, it seems like the guy just wanted to go skinny dipping. These days you don't do anything like that at any time in front of minors. Did you know that Big Brothers are having a problem recruiting men to be big brothers, no surprise, if I were a guy I wouldn't do it either. One never knows when you can be unfairly or maliciously accused of something that was completley innocent.
  22. Genetic - really. Nothing here, moving right along
  23. Agreed about Iggy - and Bob Rae has baggage, a big problem in Ontario. I'm not sure what it says about the Liberals, other than they weren't thinking (again) maybe they thought because he was for a united Canada, he might win Quebec - big mistake there.
  24. Well, it did save us the cost of a few by-elections, and is worth it if we can get a parliament that works and can get some work done.
