  1. Australia is talking about slowing it down http://www.smh.com.au/news/national/migr....4955827271.html but I think it is highly unlikely that Canada or the U.S. would even contemplate it.
  2. Never mind, the gangstas can all turn their guns in for cameras now.... gives a whole new meaning to point and shot huh
  3. Paul Martin only had a surplus because he cut back on transfer payment for health and education, cut back on EI benefits and put the EI money into general funds, they also raised taxes - that's how they did it, on the backs of the taxpayer.
  4. That's what I don't understand, there are obviously errors in counting in numerous polls all over, any recount should be a judicial recount, ALL the boxes opened and counted. I've worked on some elections and met some doosies I tell you, even one who's wife had alzeimers (she was working too) scary. This thing about taking names from the parties first is nuts, the parties don't check them bugt the riding has to take them. Besides I know in our riding there was a real shortage of workers, they had to advertise so took anybody. More scary -
  5. It seems there were some irregularities in the voting. http://www.thelinkpaper.ca/index.php?subac...rom=&ucat=1 Can someone help me out here, when there is a recount do they actually open the ballot boxes to recount, or do they just check and add the tally sheets. It seems to me the do the latter unless there is a 'judicial recount'.
  6. Interesting, this writer thinks the Liberals need to turn right - http://telegraphjournal.canadaeast.com/opi.../article/457204
  7. The Ontario Liberals will be running a deficit, probably other provinces too. In times of global economical problems such as this, I doubt that it would matter who was in charge, it's going to happen. I have to say I don't know why anyone would want to be in charge in times such as this.
  8. Oh gee, what do you call it when the Liberals (in Ontario) announce they will be running a deficit LOL
  9. Harper is an economic conservative, and certainly has not instituted anything remotely considered socially conservative. If you read a very right wing socially conservative forum, they are very upset with him for not being a social conservative. You seem to be one of the few people who promote the idea that he is one. Yeah I know, lesbians and all that, no point in going over the same ground over and over again, just reference the other threads were your fallacies were pointed out. I suppose it though, if you repeat the mantra enough times you believe it yourself.
  10. I believe with the conservatives the whole membership does get to vote for the leader, but membership as with all parties is fairly limited, the majority does not actually join a party. How do we make it such that all people have the opportunity to vote for the PM...
  11. I normally ignore your over the top rhetoric, but this is a hoot - I think we just did elect that P.M. and gee - I guess the Liberals don't crave power like 'vampires crave blood' yeah right
  12. Exactly, but isn' it time we stood up to Quebec.
  13. Bob Rae as the Premier made mistakes, the biggest being his program which saw most workers actually be docked pay one day month, people will never forgive him for that. He also increased income taxes, gas/diesel taxes and business taxes. I could be wrong, but I believe when he left office we were paying highest marginal personal income tax rates in N.A. I don't believe there was a recession when he took over, but there was when he left. That and he left a much larger deficit then when he took over. Not sure how another party would have handled it, they might have frozen wages but I doubt they would dock salaries as well.
  14. He'll be back -
  15. LOL slagging Harper is a full time occupation on here, same old same old partisan rhetoric
  16. How about we do it something like the Americans, a sort of primary election run by Elections Canada. People register for whatever party, then go to a polling station to vote for a leader of their choice. Problem with that is the cost to the taxpayer, but would it be worth it and would be it constituional ? Apart from the cost, the other problem would be with knee jerk anti Americanism, we don't want it, simply because 'they' do it. -
  17. I'm not laughing, just pointing out that it looks like we can expectmore agitating from the Liberals to limit spending during the pre-writ period, which means all the time right. In other words more socialism as in - if we have to be poor - so do you. I'm wondering if this is an undercurrent in Liberal circles as the subject came up in a conversation during the election. The Liberal supporter actually said something similar, that she didn't think it was fair that one party should be able to spend more than an other because they happened to be better at raising money. I disagreed that it should all be regulated outside of the writ period. I am glad we are not subjected to a couple of years and milions of dollars as in the U.S. but to limit spending under the guise of being fair, is just another way to stifle opposing viewpoints. Just to add, that in retrospect political advertising pays off.
  18. Oh Oh, here it comes again... the whinging and moaning because the Liberals can't raise money - watch out for them agitating for more election time censorship and spending limits to include the pre-writ period. "We cannot afford to let others distort or confuse just because they have more money," says Dion cry me a river
  19. There are somethings that no matter who is governing, cannot be avoided. this from a few papers - Canada will be dragged into recession by a deep and protracted consumer-led downturn in the United States, as well as the loss of wealth in the Canadian stock market and the slowdown in the domestic housing market, Sherry Cooper, chief economist at BMO Capital Markets, warned in one of the grimmest assessments to date of the global and domestic economic situation by a major domestic financial institution. The good news, if it can be called that, is that Ms. Cooper expects Canada's recession to be milder than in the United States and other countries that have housing bubbles. Scotiabank, which has already forecast a recession here, also projected yesterday that Canada's economy will actually shrink by 0.2 per cent next year, following only marginal growth of 0.5 per cent this year. A panel of Bay St. academics and other economists, joined in the warnings, urging the Bank of Canada to slash interest rates by another half a percentage point on Tuesday, its next preset date for any rate adjustments, and called on the federal government to implement "more measures to support Canada's financial system and real growth. The warnings increase pressure on Ottawa to restore confidence in shattered financial markets mounted yesterday with calls for the government to move "quickly" to guarantee borrowing, and for the Bank of Canada to undertake another round of deep rate cuts. read more in these papers: (P. 20. According to what I heard last night, if Dion steps down he will do so after coming to an agreement with the party that they would assume the debt. IMO it would be the right thing for the Liberal party to do. I think Dion is a decent person, just not a good leader. You have sat too long here for any good you have been doing. Depart, I say,and let us have done with you. In the name of God, go!
  21. :lol:LOL I do not believe he will pull the plug anytime soon, if he did, this time around the voters would not go for it.
  22. It wasn`t just health care workers, all workers had to. I kinda felt sorry for Bob Rae, he did inherit a deficit which also ballooned under him, he really had no choice but to make cut backs. IMO he just went about it the wrong way.
  23. Remember last year`s Ontario election, the voters turned it down by quite a margin.
  24. He's hardly going to push for another election any time soon, the voters won't like it any more than they liked this one.
  25. I haven`t read any more, but likely the parotting will be the same as before, nefarious accusations accusing Harper of supporting hate crimes against lesbians, or some such thing. This is just part of the left wing scary scary mantra which fewer people are buying into these days. Certainly the minority group of social conservatives can only wish that he supported their anti abortion, anti SSM agenda and are lamenting Harper`s lack of such support. - Harper is an economic conservative, but it does suit the agenda of some to regurgitate the same pap which has been rebutted time and time again on this forum.
