The Harper gov't has not lost the confidence of the voters, that's spin by the axis of evil. This is simply their pre-planned take over and lust for power. Do we really want big unions running this country? The opposition parties have decided that since they cannot win support at the polls, they will gain power through manipulation of the political process. Faced with a de facto coalition all preplanned before the budger, and certainly before the elected government can even begin to fulfill its mandate, the GG has little option but to tell the leaders of all parties to get their acts together and make parliament work. Proroguing parliament to the end of January should help all people calm down, but I cannot imagine such immoral and conniving people as Layton and Dion running this country.
-
Dion wants to lead this country he cannot even get his tape to the networks on time. talk about joe clark and lost mittons again. His speech was very hard to understand, got lost in translation I guess -
-
There was no 'accord' with the bloc because Harper could not agree to their demands, but the axis of evil doesn't mind. 6 senate seats to the bloc ugh !
-
Exactly, this was all planned prior to any budget or legislation. This has nothing to do with economics, it has everything to do with lust for power at any cost. COUPSCAM
-
Agreed, but not with taking up arms, there are protests being organized join them. Who would have thought that we would be in the midst of an undemocratic coup, only in Canada - pity. A ship of fools run by 3 losers. Harper should prorogue parliament for 8 weeks then call an election.

Somebody needs to get a grip on reality here.

Tories toss policy, release secret tapes to dodge defeat
scribblet replied to johhny's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
We should be concerned about a group that is stupid enough to invite their opponent to a confidential meeting and then complain about him attending. These tapes have served to destroy any legitimacy this 'coalition' might have had so requires a new election, one which will allow electors to choose between the Conservatives and the Union of Socialist and Separatist Republic. -
How long do you really think such a 'coalition' would last and do you really think this election gave these guys a mandate to form a coalition government, cos this is not what they were elected to do. How can a National Political Party join forces with a separatist party that wants to destroy our Country? It would be the height of irresponsibility on the part of the GG, possibly stepping into the territory of treason, to appoint a prime minister who is clearly dependent for survival on a Bloq faction that is openly dedicated to the break-up of the country. If such a move occurs, Canada would be justified in recommending to the Crown that its Canadian representative be replaced forthwith.
-
Not the same thing but then I don't see things through rose (red ) coloured glasses this is a secret deal with the Quebec separatists to seize power at an opportune moment, it is a premeditated power grab by the separatists and the socialists partnering with the federal Liberals to take over the government without an election using the economic situation as a ruse. Any Liberal-NDP coalition would have to make significant concessions to the Bloc Quebecois, a Quebec separatist party with no desire to protect Canada’s best interests. Spin it any way you want but this is an undemocratic attempt by the NDP and the separatist to seize control of our government and our country. Do we live in a third world country or what?

Layton has proven himself to be scum, and the others. This is an undemocratic coup, nothing else.

2009 Deficit could hit $14 billion
scribblet replied to BC_chick's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Absolute nonsense.. While I wouldn't like to see deficits, I'm not sure why we should worship at the alter of surpluses. A surplus only means that we are way overtaxed, or taxed unfairly. -
News to me too, can you elaborate or provide a source: Last I heard was that Justice Minister Rob Nicholson's first initiatives will be to toughen the Youth Criminal Justice Act to make it easier for judges to impose life sentences for killers under age 18 and impose stiffer sentences for other serious offences. He is also expected to revive proposed legislation, which died when the election was called, to add "denunciation and deterrence" as principles for judges to consider when sentencing young offenders under age 18. The government pledged Wednesday new laws to target biker gangs and other organized criminal groups, reflecting their campaign promise to make any murder related to gangs first-degree murder.,

They jumped the shark a long time ago, mostly anti abortion and religious stuff. I have my own forum but it's mostly just chat, not much in politics but I'd love to have a bunch join and get into it. pm me for the link, I'm not sure if I'm allowed to post it here.

Members of the party will be at the convention. If they are over their max they can still attend, just not deduct the amount. What's your point.

Won't back crime bills, MPs say
scribblet replied to scribblet's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
The Tories will not call an election, but maybe some people are in on Tory cabinet meetings and have some proof to the contrary. Otherwise, it's sheer speculation in an attempt to paint the Tories as the culprits should the opposition vote against the crime bill (the bill they agreed with amendments) prior to the election. The word on the street is right, and the word on the street will indeed blame the Liberals if they should force the issue. -
I don't agree with public financing, if a party can't raise enough on it's own to support a campaign too bad, obviously they don't have a following. I think the U.S. has that option, Obama at one point said he would use it, then changed his mind when he found out how much was to be had from donors.

Exactly, if the oppositions brings down the gov't it will be on their heads, not Harpers, the voters will see it that way of course. Only a dogmatic partisan would continue insisting that it is strictly on Harper, all he is doing is calling their bluff, he's playing poker knowing that the Liberals have to blink, they have no choice for now anyway. No way will the public blame an election now, on the Tories. -

I was listening to a talk show this afternoon - if the Liberals want to bring down the gov't - bring it on and make my day ! If the Liberals forced the issue, they would be decimated in an election, public opinion would not be with the Liberals. Especially as they would be seen as being soft on gun crime. The Liberals aren't being up front either, the bill contains the amendments from the last session as agreed on by all. The Conservatives are only saying no additional substanial amendments Apparently the crime bill is a confidence matter as was the throne speech, from which the Liberals will abstain from voting. -
Really, perhaps we should take the Liberals up on this, and let them bring on another election GLORIA GALLOWAY From Wednesday's Globe and Mail November 5, 2008 at 4:21 AM EST OTTAWA — Opposition MPs, including Liberals who have worked on justice issues, say they would plunge the country into another federal election before agreeing to a slate of Conservative proposals that would see convicted criminals treated more harshly. The measures, including tougher penalties for young offenders and the reduced use of conditional sentences that allow criminals to serve their time at home, are likely to be among the first tests of Liberal willingness to challenge Stephen Harper's new minority government. more here http://www.theglobeandmail.com/servlet/sto...y/politics/home

I believe they only counted a small number of the boxes, perhaps a total recount would change that ?
-
Not at all, as far as I know there is no recount of any kind unless it's a close race, and then they don't open the boxes, they only check the tally sheets. After that, it requires a judicial recount, and then it may only be a few boxes

Bloc riding transfers $185,000 to Liberals
scribblet replied to scribblet's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
LOL I'm waiting ! -
Thought I'd put this out there for discussion as it seems to me this whole recount process is wrong, when a race is this close, every body should be opened and recounted. We also need to improve the hiring and training process or election workers, however, in order to do that there needs to be a longer campaign period. The time allowed for hiring and training is far to short, not only that, but the process of having to hire from the parties first is a problem. What can be done to improve the hiring, training and overall improve the procedures. I bet if there was a recount in every riding there would a huge difference in voting totals. http://www.bluelikeyou.com/2008/10/25/just...plaining-to-do/ This is outrageous! Why wouldn’t every ballot box be opened in a recount as crucial as the one in Vancouver South? http://www.thelinkpaper.ca/index.php?subac...=1%3E&cat=1

Hmmmm, where did it go - more brown paper bags or - oh now - say it isn't so - a Liberal 'in and out' http://network.nationalpost.com/np/blogs/f...o-liberals.aspx Steve Janke: Bloc riding transfers $185,000 to Liberals
