  1. I suppose they do, there are some out there who would fit in better with the CHP, however, all parties have open membership right? These people, as much as we may dislike their views have as much right as anyone else to voice their opinions. If they choose the CPC as their vehicle, that's life, it's democracy. Last time I checked the Liberals had their fair share too.
  2. You've got that right. That coalition has been around for a while, it includes some Liberals, whoda thunk it, actually it is an 'all party caucus' it's so secret everyone knows about it. LoL I believe Paul Steckle is the co-chair of this committee. They won't get anywhere, but they might get some restrictions on late term which isn't a bad thing, what is it in Britain - 24 weeks ?
  3. I'll say, not to mention that thesis he wrote hmmmm I just love the way people are desperate to paint Harper as some religious nut when he never talks about his religion or makes it an issue. The only people to do that are desperate to try and pin a label on him LOL Good thing we've had a lot of RC PMs who belong to a church that is very socially conservative, hmmm, then we have Jack Layton who belongs to the United Church. Elizabeth May is an Anglican, who said in an opinion piece in the NP , "My religious faith is a large part of who I am, but it has nothing to do with the Green party and our policies." ditto to Harper and the others. Stephane Dion describes himself as Catholic, and he did say on the Michael Coren show,he did talk about his desire to "reconcile people with God's environment" and saving the planet "given to us by God." hmmm so get with the party guys, the mud isn't sticking.
  4. Exactly !! I see little condemnation anywhere for Palestinian attacks which happen daily, the only time people speak up is when Israel retaliates. They seem to think it is so sad when Palestinian civilians are victims, but not a single comment when Israeli civilians are the victims- pretty duplicitous. Where were you all last week when hundreds of rockets were fired on Israeli civilian towns and at kindergartens? Where have you been the last 8 years over 10,000 have been fired from Gaza? The Palestinians think that they are smart supporting and voting for Hamas but do nothing to stop the rocket attacks on Israel. Then they whine and bitch when Israel fights back. They are a terrorist state, they have made their bed, they can lie in or work towards peace. BTW, Israel does not deliberately target civilians, Palestinians do.
  5. Since 2005, when Israel left Gaza, and Gaza was considered 'Jew-Free', the Muslims of Gaza have attacked Israel's families with over thousands of missiles! Years of constant attacks on Israel by the racists of Gaza went unanswered until now, Israel has had enough, they have a right to fight back. How many Muslim, Jewish, Christians or Hindu children will have to die before the Muslimworld decides that it is better to live at peace with other religions and races, rather than live in hatred, racism, misery and violence? Qassam rockets land in western Negev, no injuries Palestinians once again fire rockets towards southern Israel from Gaza, tally at over 20 since beginning of ceasefire with Hamas 08.22.08, 21:32 / Israel News Israel is under constant rocket attacks, this is Dec. 17th http://www.ynetnews.com/articles/0,7340,L-3640288,00.html Sderot under fire: 3 hurt in rocket strike Further escalation in south: More than 20 Qassams fired at southern Israeli communities Wednesday; Rocket explodes in Sderot parking lot, three people sustain light wounds. Defense Minister Barak: We'll operate in Gaza when time is right http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,473167,00.html It is about time that Hamas is condemned the constant attacks against Israel and for years of trying to kill Jews and/or destroy Israel. The Muslim World has tried to murder all Jewish people for over 60 years. Five times over Muslims tried to destroy Israeland five times they failed. When Muslim armies couldn't kill them off, they flooded Gaza and the West Bank with Muslim settlers and Muslim terrorists There will only be peace when Muslims become tolerant of other religions.
  6. Yup, and "Palestine' was given plenty of warning to quit firing the rockets or else !! As usual the 'breaking story' at CNN showed photos of grieving "victims", but no mention of the hundreds of rocket attacks from Gaza into Israel - can't talk about that one now, can we.
  7. I tend to agree we should abolish it, but there has to be some checks and balances surely.... and while we are at it, get rid of the GG.
  8. I'm sure a lot of it is lack of education, but not always, the 9/11 terrorists were well educated, so are many of AQ et al. Not to mention Muslims are blowing up more of their own than westerners. There is no moral equivalence, between a few Christian terrorists and Radical Islamists, there is no equivalency in numbers. We now see the horrors of a civilization that values death, even that of it's own children, if they are dying by killing infidels. The majority of Muslims are not terrorists, but the majority of terrorists are Muslim, in today's world. I agree about religion having no place in politics, which is why you never hear Harper discuss it, the only people who do bring it up are people who have a Liberal agenda.
  9. Maybe, but it doesn't matter which party makes appts. they will always see it as that way, the Liberals have made more patronage appts. than any other party. However, I don't think Harper can do anything else, why would he leave them open with the possibility of the troika taking power still, or a possible election loss.
  10. A free car !! How would that help sales and the economy ? I'd go for tax breaks on N.A. cars only.
  11. Hey, and yes we can.. Unfortunately I don't have as much time as I used to for forums, or at least I'm cutting back LOL Keep up the good work
  12. Wikki isn't exactly the best source, and yes there are some radical terrorists who call themselves Christian, but their activities are nothing in comparison to radical Islamist terrorism. The bombing of abortion Clinics is clearly not mainstream, certainly nowhere near the amount perpetrated in the name of Islam. Not to mention that any terrorism or acts of violence do not receive sympathy from even a small group of Christians, and none of them are seeking to mobilize a nation or all Christians. McVeigh and Nichols for instance were never religiously motiviated, Nichols only found God while in jail, and McVeigh never showed interest in religion.
  13. Just let me know when they start blowing up subways and using their kids as human bombs then I'll start worrying.
  14. Well said !!! This whole argument about religion is simply a political tool with which to scare people, guess it works on some.
  15. The difference is that Harper is requiring appointees to agree to resigning should elections and Senate reform become law. Better Harper fill the seats now, under those conditions, than leaving them all open for Liberal patronage appointments, or to be used as bait for the coalition/troika.
  16. Who or what is 'stockpile' ? I don't think I've read as much crappola before, as on this thread !!! Show where Harper has ever said or done anything to advance a religious/social conservative agenda, softly or otherwise ? How about talking about the churches other leaders go to, their practices and beliefs. OOOh, isn't the RC church not only anti abortion, but anti birth control along with some some other whacky beliefs e.g. transubstantiation etc. I don't see anyone using these as scare tactics, but it's okay to use Harper's church as some kind of bogeman. How about we substitute Muslims/mosque in some arguments and watch people scream about bigotry - give me a break. Yes there are some people in the CPC who are religously motivated, but there are in the Liberal party too, but isn't wonderful that we have a modicum of freedom of speech and religion where all people have a voice, or is the real intent of some people to take away freedom of speech and belief. Again, it would be preferably that the religious zealots stick to the CHP, but they don't as they know that they don't stand a chance in 'ell of winning.
  17. Of course not, everything is just hunky dory when the Liberals do it. I'm rootin' for Preston Manning and Deborah Grey... Hope Harper 'gits er done'
  18. I think you are referring to the Unborn Victims of Crime bill, which I believe is almost the same as a bill put forward by Liberal MP St. Denis C-543. ... All this religious hyperbole, my goodness, all people including evangelicals believe it or not, have a right to a voice in Parliament. We might not like what they want, but they have the right to be represented or to present their views, preferably through the CHP. - As you can clearly see, Liberals have their share of religious MPs who are anti abortion etc. etc. They are not confined to the CPC.
  19. You are right. There is NO CPC socially conservative agenda, which Harper has continually reiterated, all of this is simply a scare tactic, there is nothing that he can point out to prove his point. Any attempts to bring them forward at conventions are voted down. There are people in both parties who would like to see abortion laws changed, the Liberals have their share of them, and there are some conservative people who are very angry with Harper who refuses to put forward their agenda. Stockwell Day is a prime example, of what would happen if they did, it won't happen again. Prime Minister Paul Martin on abortion: “I am personally against abortion on demand, but I believe it is very clear that there must be legislation brought in that will deal with what is becoming simply a mish-mash of approaches” - Paul Martin (Halifax Daily News, July 20, 1989) Joe Volpe’s comments on abortion: “The government has contented itself with casting the issue in the context of abortion, a context which invariably favours the rights of those who are present against those who are silent, a context which too often is seen as purely a woman’s issue” (Hansard, November 22, 1989) Then there's Tom Wappel (also against gay marriage)l and J. Karrygiannis among others who are against abortion rights, including Paul Stick, Paul Szabo, Joe Comzzi et al. When attempting to lay a label on Harper, these people are conveniently forgotten.
  20. So do I actually, but surely they could sell off some assets to keep afloat.
  21. Harper seems to be falling in line with the opposition demands to spend, spend spend. Can we spend our way out of a recession, probably not, who will get the blame when these guys fail anyway and the money is not paid back. Why should we bail out Chrysler which is private whose parent company has billions in assets.
  22. What a load of horse manure. How about Paul Martin, a devout Roman Catholic, or Chretien, a devout Roman Catholic etc. etc. why not describe other leaders in the same manner. Harper has never played any religious cards, he never discusses his religion or uses it, just more scary scary stupidity.
  23. There should be a lot of strings attached, including CEO salary and bonus cutbacks, along with the union concessions. Wait, hasn't the union refused... http://business.theglobeandmail.com/servle...y/Business/home
  24. I didn't vote because there needs to be a middle ground, maybe a 10% pay cut, or simply a hold on any increases, including COLA
  25. Of course it's the case, the troika were planning on spending 30billion off the top, so it would be okay if the Liberals went into deficit ? They are screaming and demanding that Harper spend spend spend....
