  1. That was Sept. 2nd, it wasn't until the media started spreading lies about the refugee application that people started getting worked up. It was then everyone jumped on the band wagon in order to denigrate the gov't, no other reason. They didn't care about the millions of black migrants trekking across Europe, I didn't see any cries to take any of them in. So how many refugees should we accept and how will we process them and get them all here. I expect you will be willing to sponsor at least one family, surely.
  2. Well said Rue but the issue of values and customs is an issue no one wants to talk about. As someone else said, I'd be pretty scared if I thought 800,000 religious conservatives where to come here. Prior to this no one wanted to talk about the African Muslim migrants invading Europe, there have been pictures in a camp where they rioted because someone supposedly tore a Koran. This whole thing started with the media and the opposition using the little boy's death to smear Harper and the gov't, prior to that no one gave a sh.t or made it into an election issue.
  3. That's the question isn't it, do the other leaders want our normal processing and criminal/background checks suspended to let them all in no questions asked - that's extremely problematic. There's some pictures towards the bottom of this giving a good idea of the sheer migrant numbers involved - just how does any country process that many and ensure that criminals and terrorists are not part of them. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-3219553/Terrible-fate-tiny-boy-symbolises-desperation-thousands-Body-drowned-Syrian-refugee-washed-Turkish-beach-family-tried-reach-Europe.html
  4. Ours are scheduled for the next month, I don't have dates for other ridings.
  5. Reportedly urged, this is the media again exaggerating. All they've been told is to be careful and not say something that the media could misinterpret, just putting the media on notice that they know what they are contending with. Believe it or not, your choice.
  6. Which is why there are protests. They are afraid and have seen what is allready happening in the U.K., Sweden and other countries. Merkel et al are saying it's racism, maybe some of it is but IMO see it the way you put it. If 25,000 are spread around they could be assimilated but it's likely most will end up in Vancouver or Toronto.
  7. Oh sure... but apart from that hyperbole, 25,000 people within a short span of time is a lot for us to sustain indefinitely. The gov't has told us what it's doing and how, the opposition wants more in a short time frame, they also have made it clear they would like to bring in more than 25,000. If this is what they want they should campaign on it then tell us how they will do it.
  8. Turkey is a designated safe country and they are being fed/housed. The family of the child who died so tragically would not have qualified for refugee status anyway. I haven't heard any of the opposition leaders tell us how we should take in the tens of thousands immediately. They have not told us if they would drop safeguards and requirements to fast track them, or how, logistically they would get them here. There is no costing to this as far as I know but how likely is it that they would get work and would our infrastructure including our health system be able to cope with a mass influx if migrants, in fact, it is the largest migration crisis in recent history. I see a lot of hyperbole over this but the only way to solve this is to somehow bring about peace and stability to that region. The failed Arab spring and ISIS are a good part of the problem. The recent lie started and perpetuated by the press should expose the nature of the media and opposition parties as to what they are prepared to do to bring down a gov't. It is sickening and abhorrent how this tragedy has been used to lie and perpetuate a myth.
  9. Garbage reply. I'm working in the campaign office and know for sure that we have two debates confirmed but I'm not telling you where I live. I also know that a couple of ridings out west have confirmed debates.
  10. Why, he did nothing wrong. There was no application and the family was safe in Turkey. This tragic death is being used for political gain that's all. If another gov't takes over let's see how fast they can bring them in. Canada takes in her fair share of refugees who must be processed. If Mulcair and Trudeau want to bring in thousands of undocumented migrants now, they should campaign on that and tell us how they propose to get them here and how they will pay for them, and what jobs there are for them etc. etc. Canada cannot take in 100 of thousands of migrants currently massing in Europe and neither can Germany or other countries either. We need to figure out how to stop the fighting then help rebuild. Fighting which is largely due to the failed Arab spring, and now ISIS. The U.K. has had enough, as Cameron said, it's peace and stability that is needed.

  12. http://www.reddeeradvocate.com/opinion/Harper_deserves_praise_322762791.html One of the most baffling developments in the current Canadian political arena is the amount of pure hatred and anger directed at Prime Minister Stephen Harper. The reasons behind the contempt are well beyond the realm of rational thought and are firmly based in an irrational assessment of this man and his leadership.

Do CPC supporters consider shutting out input from even his own MPs and ruling the government from the PMO good leadership? At least some CPC voters must believe in MPs being able to actually represent the concerns and ideas of their constituents.

  13. Actually they have not been told that so you need to get your facts right. I'm working in the campaign office now and we've agreed to two debates so far, and the candidate is giving interviews. All they've been told is to be circumspect in what they say as it can be misconstrued or blown out of proportion, can't blame the party for that.
  14. Don't be fooled by a union groups. Contrary to what the left-wing would have you believe, Harper has done more for our vets than the Liberals ever did. Currently, the earnings loss benefit expires at age 65 and the permanent impairment allowance and supplement continues until death. Harper implemented a new benefit that provides financial assistance beyond the age of 65 for veterans who are moderately to severely disabled which benefit is also transferable to surviving spouses. Veterans...

Apparently, vets don't matter to the Harper crowd. Happy to send brave souls off to battle, but unhappy about paying for their care upon return. It's embarrassing to have a leader like that.

Sounds like the Obama administration. Vets die while waiting months to see a doctor. But he's the best president evah! #MightyHypocrite

If you disagree with Obama's treatment of vets why support Harper's?

Here is a very common story. PTSD, yet waiting 3 years to get approved for treatment...even then 9 service offices have been closed. More soldiers in Afghanistan have killed themselves than died on duty.

If you care about vets, vote against Stephen Harper and the CPC.

Attacking the benefits of our vets and running a massive voter suppression campaign to misdirect the support of his competition in 200+ ridings. That's Harper's fault.

Brought up in relation to PM Harper and his Church beliefs which are often touted on here as being representative of Harper. I don't see anyone commenting on RC beliefs which are very similar to evangelical churches. Should Mulcair and Trudeau be thrown out of their Churches ?

  18. Excuse me, but Bob Rae is now a fan of Liberal budgeting? Remind me about what he said of Paul Martin's 1995 federal budget as Ontario premier: "It's a course I don't think that we should be on as a country and it's a course I certainly intend to fight."

Bob Rae, there is a good example of what happens when you put a NDP government in charge.

  19. Recap folks - Harper Gov’t is running a $5-billion surplus over 1st quarter. Justin wants to turn that into $10 billion deficit. JUST say no

Just pointing out bad logic. For instance, the government is still predicted to run a deficit this year...selling assets and withholding budgetd service funds just prior to an election to bump up first quarter numbers in an attempt to fool voters doesn't change that.

Of course in politics there are always irrational hysterics (the Earl Cowans) but no one looks to those people for articulate answers. Yakabuski fails to appreciate why so many rational, liberal minds oppose Harper, and many would haven been happy to tell him, had he asked. By failing to do so, his column says more about his own closed-mindedness than anything else.

It's not any individual thing Harper did that is bringing him down. It's...

  20. http://www.ft.com/cms/s/0/1099e22c-467e-11e5-b3b2-1672f710807b.html Germany and the rest of Europe cannot possibly absorb that many migrants, nor can they financially afford to but there is no sign of it stopping. This is an invasion plain and simple, the long term consequences of which, if allowed to continue will see Europe become third world themselves. If this is not contained there will be civil unrest and problems I don’t think they are prepared to handle. Another major concern is the debt that the invaders incur to pay the scum that expedite getting them across borders illegally. Those debts then have to be repaid by whatever means possible which often leads to criminal activities which vary from prostitution through drug dealing and simple stealing, but very often all of them and more. There are not enough jobs for that many people, nor can the U.K., Germany, Italy et al afford welfare payments indefinitely. IMO huge civil unrest will soon breakout unless this is addressed and this whole thing is going to end in tears. Also http://www.spectator.co.uk/features/9560982/the-invasion-of-italy/ Welcome to Italy: this is what a real immigration
  21. You know, this whole thread and accusations of trolling is ridiculous, this vendetta against a poster you disagree with is silly. I've been a member since 2003 and have seen this forum deteriorate into mostly silly infighting, infantile accusations and a lot of never never land stuff. Maybe it's time to move on and grow up.

  23. So a conservative heckler swears at the media and they go ape sh.t.. but a huge f.. Harper sign on rear window is freedom of speech. As is exploiting young children like this is I suppose https://twitter.com/TrixieFordGirl/status/634054279683305472

In this particular case it goes beyond free speech and becomes more a matter of exploitation. The parents of this child should be truly ashamed of themselves.

I can see some key differences that would explain that: one is a picture on social media. One was a guy yelling at the media into a camera. See why one would get picked up over another? (Oh and btw, I'm betting you read about the fuck Harper sign on the window in the MSM).

  24. No reveling here or anywhere else that I've seen, but then lots of people impute words and feelings to others that aren't there. Mind you, I was reveling when the 1993 legislation was passed expanding voters rights for ex-pats who didn't have those rights before.
