  1. EngageCanada is owned by Liberals/NDP/Unions but notice they don't tell you anything on the site. They are not registered as a third party so if the writ is dropped early they are done. D. Akins fact checked their ad and it didn't do well - fact wise that is. What are they hiding anhyway, no one takes responsibility for those ads or give names of supporters but worst of all they are pretty loose with the facts. No doubt the new batch will be as dishonest as the first. Time to drop the writ, I’m betting on Aug. 9th. – same election date.
  2. NDP's total disregard for democracy - no referendum om major electoral changes should require one.

I think it's Harper who has been shown to be anti science, no?

Good find Shady! That link really helps the NDP and takes a hard shot at how ugly the conservative partisan use of Canadian tax dollars has become!

  3. Agreed, and I wouldn't click on any stormfront links at all. This is nothing but a not too subtle attempt to link conservatives to stormfront.
  4. You can argue that a min. of 3% is not enough but you can't argue that transfers are being cut or gutted when every year the amount is increased.
  5. Two different sets of laws , one for Liberals and one for Conservatives. Liberal leadership candidate Joe Volpe is returning $27,000 in campaign donations from five children which he denies of course. But, after a review it was determined that five contributions from persons under the age 18 will be returned, totalling $27,000 Why isn’t he in leg irons.

  6. There is a question of legality with the ongoing by-elections, although engagecanada has not, and says it does not intend, to register as a third party. Not registering gets them around the spending limits, but how can they get away with not registering as a third party I don't know. I do not subscribe to the idea of unrestricted third party advertising but we cannot stop people from voicing opinions. We can however, stop unions from using tax subsidized funding for political purposes. Taxpayers lose about $1 billion per year in lost income tax revenue due to the allowance for unionists to deduct union dues from gross income. . That has to stop. The solution isn't to ban unions et al from expressing their views. Rather Union membership needs to be made voluntary through right to work laws so those who disagree with the advertising aren't forced to fund it. Businesses also get tax deductions for advertising and lobbying efforts. The difference is that businesses are using their own money while unions essentially have a taxation power over their members. It's this power to confiscate income to fund advertising that needs to end
  7. Two wrong don't make a right but did you complain when the Liberals were spending far more than the CPC is doing now.
  8. Actually it's the reasoning of Pierre Kingsley, I read elsewhere that engagecanada is saying they will not register as a third party. http://ipolitics.ca/2015/06/26/other-third-parties-should-follow-harperpacs-lead-close-up-shop-says-kingsley/ “I think they should all shut down,” Kingsley said. “Don’t set up shop, wait for the writ to be dropped and then register as a third party as you’re supposed to. And follow the rules
  9. In what kind of fantasy world did you read where I said the NDP did... I said 'PACs' as in engageCanada pac which is supported by unions/LPC/NDP imputing words again.
  10. Gimme a break NDP…. Biggest “US-style” PACs in Canada are those with millions of union money behind them! And yet, this $-raiser: Hypocrites
  11. Back to David Akin's response They don’t like Harper and they don’t like Conservatives. And, by the evidence of their first ad, they don't much care for the truth. http://www.torontosun.com/2015/06/12/new-ad-from-anti-harper-group-all-baloney
  12. Other eligible relatives....
  13. http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/resources/evaluation/frp/index.asp family reunification and family class appear to be the same. http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/immigrate/sponsor/ If you are a citizen or permanent resident of Canada and at least 18 years old, you can sponsor certain relatives to come to Canada under the Family Class. These can be: your spouse, your conjugal or common-law partner, your dependent child (this includes an adopted child) or other eligible relatives. If your family member can become a permanent resident, they can live, study and work in Canada.
  14. I'm talking about the family reunification program which I believe is the same as family class, although there is a Family Class sponsorship category in the provinces also. I too wonder how prioritizing elderly relatives (not dependant children) will help Canada. I remember the flap when a Liberal MP wanted to lower the requirement for collecting OAS, the spectre of that issue coming up again is always a possibility. The dishonest ad from EngageCanada... http://blogs.canoe.com/davidakin/politics/engage-canada-vs-evidence-jenni-byrne-and-the-conservatives/
  15. I never said it cut into economic class immigration, I said " If family reunification trumps qualifications and skills then it obviously will lead to fewer skilled people and more unqualified less meritorious unskilled people coming in, which would be detrimental to Canada’s economy (and health care )" I'm fully aware of sponsorship etc. what I'm not fully aware of is exactly what the opposition parties would do to change that other than fast track and raise quotas.
  16. First of all, All of you radical anti-immigration types is a total mis-characterization if not outright lie as it does not represent anything that has been said here, so quit imputing thoughts and ideas to people that were never said or even implied. Immigrants can bring in their dependant children, no problem there, we are talking about bringing in elderly dependant relatives. As far as I know there are no specifics in their plans, just promises to fast track etc. so we don't know what they will do, if they will lift the cap and lower sponsorship requirements. I'll stick with fast tracking skilled workers. Seems reasonable to me http://www.cbc.ca/news/politics/canada-accepting-5-000-parent-grandparent-sponsorship-applications-1.2481803
  17. It certainly is (EngageCanada) - and Big Union backing, although they refuse to disclose who is behind them unlike the now defunct ConservativePac... http://blogs.canoe.com/davidakin/politics/engage-canada-vs-evidence-jenni-byrne-and-the-conservatives/ group described by the Globe and Mail as “high-level Liberal and New Democratic backroom veterans” calling themselves “Engage Canada” has launched a massive new advertising campaign against us. I'm not calling for them to be shut down but Kingsley is, I just asked if they should be regulated, at least as far as truthfulness goes. http://www.durhamregion.com/news-story/5697049-engage-canada-should-shut-down-kingsley/ update: Baloney Meter Update: Because EngageCanada didn't correct for inflation, that EngageCanada factoid has been upgraded to "A Lot of Baloney"
  18. Good question, as far as border security goes I don't know. I would think that if a U.S. utility employee crosses the border they would have an exemption...
  19. Exactly... but the problem is low information voters don't fact check these ads.
  20. The NDP say they will make family and family reunification central to immigration policy. If family reunification trumps qualifications and skills then it obviously will lead to fewer skilled people and more unqualified less meritorious unskilled people coming in, which would be detrimental to Canada’s economy (and health care ).
  21. I don't think he did violate any law actually and originally IMO this was just another attempt to smear Harper with a sob story. However, I think what happened is when crossing the border they were asked for info. and their cell phones, which border security people can legally do. They searched his cell phone and found material which in their opinion led them to believe he was illegally working in Canada. Illegally working in Canada will get you kicked out. It appears that they were wrong, but it leads to the question of cell phones and incriminating evidence... IMO if there is a question of legality anywhere, delete everything on your phone before crossing the border. Or, take a burner phone with you that has nothing on it other then some contacts.
  22. I thought this was about PACs and spending.. Should there be legislation regulating them outside of the writ period, if so how much and should we also regulate accuracy and truthfullness. As for family reunification or bringing elderly parents/grandparents in, that's fine and dandy as long as they do not go on welfare or use our healthcare program for free. Neither should any changes be proposed or made lowering their OAS eligibility.
  23. Exactly, they CPC had nothing to do with it, but I'm surprised that the people involved used that name. Mind you, Taylor says it is actually called ConservativePac, the Harperpac was one phase, IMO they screwed up. Either that or they really did just want to bring attention to the amount of money being spent now by EngageCanada (and it's two other groups). Other third parties should follow HarperPAC's lead, close up shop, says Kingsley... we know they won't. Even so, should third party advertising be regulated outside the writ period, and if so how. IMO PM Harper should drop the writ in 2 or 3 weeks but not change the election date, financing rules would then kick in. http://www.brandonsun.com/national/breaking-news/harperpac-shutting-down-donations-to-be-returned-309981621.html?thx=y
  24. Hopefully they will change the name and restart, I'm surprised the people running it didn't know the rules. They are needed badly to counter the disinformation campaign by Engage Canada. Don't expect to find out much about Engage or their second one, (not here for you) ‘cos you're not supposed to, expect them to launch two or three campaigns targeted at specific audiences and demographics Heavily financed by unions et al groups on the left, Engage will have substantial clout as they have deep pockets and IMO most people don’t fact check their claims. Recall too when the left were complaining years ago about conservative pre-writ spending and how they wanted that controlled by E.C. We may not want to stop people or groups from voicing an opinion but we can legislate honesty and transparency as the leftwing groups won`t put a face to anyone behind them, on their pages. David Akin calls them All Baloney http://www.torontosun.com/2015/06/12/new-ad-from-anti-harper-group-all-baloney
  25. Interesting that Pierre Kingsley is now warning us of the Harper Pac big money arrival , I guess I missed it when he warned us and denounced the huge union funded Liberal and NDP ad group.... which actually wants us to believe it's 'non partisan' while not divulging who is behind it.
