Nostalgia mostly. To be honest, when I changed the name and moved everything over to the new domain, I wanted to try to resurrect the old educational features, and see if I could find enough money to update them and start producing them again. However, I believe that time has past, and it may be time to split the forum off from the rest of the content. There are a number of very popular features that are still as relevant (and factually correct) today as they were 20+ years ago - the one on the Not Withstanding Clause, etc. So I might migrate the educational feature back to the original domain, and move the forums over to the root domain, repolitics.com.

The proud boys beat up at drag show
Greg replied to CrakHoBarbie's topic in Federal Politics in the United States
cool it everyone, or I'll lock this thread. -
It can be slow on the weekends, but post a few more times and you'll be a full member in no time.

Sorry, didn't read the title of the thread before answering above. You can post an avatar AFTER you become a full member. So just keep going, you'll be a full member shortly.

@Americana Antifa, all new members need to make a few postings before they are elevated to full member status. This is a anti-spam measure, and we hope that you understand. Your most recent posts have been approved, just keep posting and you will be elevated to full member status shortly. Thanks!

To stop spammers, I have to manually approve the first five postings of each new member of the forums. To reduce the workload, and to improve the speed at which these new members are approved, I'm looking for a few volunteers to help out. The work load is ridiculously simple. You just have to review the moderation log, from time to time, and approve any new members who are not obviously spammers. And if a spammer does managed to "fool" me (or any of the new spam catchers), then all you have to do is mark them as a spammer. If you're interested, send me an email here: [email protected] Any questions, please post them below. Thanks!

Sorry about that Deluge, busy work. You should be good to go!

US Dem/Media Perception of Life
Greg replied to August1991's topic in Federal Politics in the United States
You’re correct, my mistake. It was @Rebound that claimed August was a “Russian Plant” I’m sorry about that. -
US Dem/Media Perception of Life
Greg replied to August1991's topic in Federal Politics in the United States
I’ve known August for over eighteen years… he registered in these forums back in 2004. he’s the same guy now, as he was then. I’ll be honest, if there was ever a “plant” that was solely here to parrot a specific viewpoint, I’d say it was more likely to be you @robosmith. -

Is that a joke? August has been around here nearly as long as me. @Rebound lets cut that type of talk out. -

Timeouts on the 'Unread Content' Link
Greg replied to Michael Hardner's topic in Support and Questions
OK, I made some serious changes to the database this afternoon (which caused some downtime, sorry about that), and these changes should solve most of the problems we were having before. @Michael Hardner, @Contrarian can you revisit the Unread Content page, you should not be getting any 504 errors anymore. If anyone else wants to try, please visit this page: https://repolitics.com/forums/discover/unread/ And report back success or failure. Thanks! -
Timeouts on the 'Unread Content' Link
Greg replied to Michael Hardner's topic in Support and Questions
OK, I'll be booking some downtime sometime this week. I'll be resizing the VPS, which shouldn't take longer than 30 min. I'll post a notice shortly before I begin the process. -
Timeouts on the 'Unread Content' Link
Greg replied to Michael Hardner's topic in Support and Questions
Ok, thanks for keeping me in the loop. I may need to resize the VPS that the site is running on, it looks like we're getting more traffic, and that's impacting server load. -
Timeouts on the 'Unread Content' Link
Greg replied to Michael Hardner's topic in Support and Questions
Strange, I can't get this error to happen for me. Can you two clear your browser caches and try again? -
Timeouts on the 'Unread Content' Link
Greg replied to Michael Hardner's topic in Support and Questions
That's odd, I've never gotten a timeout from this section. I just rebooted the server, please give it a try again, and see if this timeout still happens. Please update the thread again if it happens, and the exact time that you got a timeout. I can then check that against the logs. -
What improvements would you like to see in this discussion forum?
Greg replied to Greg's topic in Support and Questions
There are too many daily posts to make this a good idea. There is already a feature that provides this functionality, it's available under the Activity tab: https://repolitics.com/forums/discover/ You can adjust that stream or make a new one, which would contain whatever you want to see. Not really, as copying and pasting isn't something that the forum software can manipulate. Copy and past functionality is a OS and or browser dependent function. Maybe look for an extension that provides what you want in your browsers extension library.- 1,890 replies

I was skeptical when I approved the posting. If anyone does call and this is a scam, please inform me and I'll remove the posting. It doesn't technically doesn't break any rules...
-
I actually didn't take it negatively... I figured @Nefarious Banana comments were firmly tongue in cheek. For the record, I think Charles did a great job here, and I miss him.
-
Ha, and you guys are surprised Charles needed to take a vacation? You twats are a lot of work
-
That’s a fairly accurate description, but it’s less about salary and taxes (but those do help), and more about overall lifestyle that certain areas of the US can provide. Agreed, Charles has decided to take some time off.
-
I did, however no longer.

Canada's relationship with China...? why the hell would I care what you have to say about Canada's relationship with China? You do realize that this forum/website isn't hosted in Canada, nor do I even live in Canada. And it would be a cold day in hell that I allowed any government to tell me what can and cannot be posted in these forums. I'd pull the plug before I ever allowed that type of nonsense. @Rebound and @ExFlyer are likely correct, you could have just triggered the banned word filter. I hate to burst everyone's bubble, but there isn't any sophisticated AI automatically moderating your posts... it's literally a "bad" word filter - if you use a specific word, your post is flagged for editing. I could have the post flagged for moderation, but than that just adds to me work load. For those who are curious, here is the current list of bad words:
-
Hmm, there should be a limit on the amount of downvotes a single poster can make. I'll look into this issue.
