  1. You're not imagining it. A member requested account deletion, including removal of their content. What that happens, their posts and threads are removed, which unfortunately removes other postings ON those affected threads. I'm sorry this happened, but if I'm going to respect people's contributions, it means I have to abide by removal requests. Please start up another thread on the same topic, other members will certainly continue where they left off.
  2. There are a number of features that can be tied into the warning points. We've never used them before (other than letting them stack up over the years), but I'm open to the idea, and exploring the use to auto-moderate specific forums/posts.
  3. This thread is locked. Poor attempt at creating a topic. @MagaWillRise, you can try again.
  4. The old content will be removed, likely reverted back to it's original domain, mapleleafweb.com. I have to deal with the migration issues first, once that is ironed out, I'll move the forum to the domain root.
  5. Slight issue with the migration... The new server has been purchased, but there were multiple issues with the migration, so I had to bail and revert everything back to the old server. However, I've modified the caching again, and will attempt the server migration at a later time. Sorry for inconvenience. I'll update this thread when I have more info on the next migration window.
  6. In order to upgrade the server the forum is running on, we're going to need to migrate the server. This is going to require some downtime. Thanks!
  7. Just so everyone understands, the cache has to be built, before it can actually serve any data. I suspect that the slow downs are the result of the cache being slowly built. Which is why I want to give it a few days, so that should provide enough traffic that the redis cache can cache what it needs to, and then we should have a speed increase in database requests. However, redis isn't really my specialty, so it might not be the best choice. We were using it before, but I've increased its usage to include sessions and topic view counters.
  8. I've activated some database caching today... lets give it a day or two, and if the unresponsiveness continues, I'll remove the caching (which is supposed to help, not hinder). Thanks
  9. @OftenWrong... I just realized, can't you just use the "Follow" feature to follow those topics/members that you want to enjoy? In the above screenshot, I followed two topics, and then I visited the Activity section, selected My Activity Streams, and selected Content I Follow. You can then use the dropdowns to filter the results even more... Would this not accomplish what you want? You can even save the newly created activity stream, and make it your default view.
  10. I'll look into it. But one hack would be to create a club, that only contains yourself. Then in the club, post the links to the thread you like most. But I will look into a plugin that provides a bookmarking feature you describe.
  11. I'm genuinely interested in making this place a better forum. But by and large, most of the suggestions are "we need more censorship", "we need more moderation of ideas I don't like", "we need [insert feature] that will solve all the problems I feel are important." I'm not going to discourage people from making these types suggestions, but I'm also not going to waste time addressing them. The VAST majority of forum members have no problem with each other, they contribute their arguments/thoughts and often do it with little emotion or abuse. The troublemakers are the same people, engaging with themselves, engaging in the same troublesome behaviors over and over again. They're also the same people who continually submit reports accusing each other of being mean, trolling, etc - those reports are largely ignored, because I won't moderate someone because someone's feelings were hurt. But, back to the point on suggestions... I've posted a number of suggestions on things I'd like to do in the Steering Committee forum, and while a few people contributed or offered to help, the vast majority choose not to contribute. That's fine, I'm not upset about that. I'm perfectly happy to let the forums limp forward, it's doing fine regardless of some members feelings. It's been here for 23 years, and it's quite possible it'll be here for another 23 years.
  12. I'm listening, and will attempt to implement suggestions that are workable, and are a good idea.
  13. I think you've earned it. Congrats on the anniversary and welcome to the 0 points club
  14. Neither I, nor the forum, is physically in Canada anymore. While the site does attract more Canadians, the ratio of Canadians to Americans is narrowing everyday. I also disagree with the premise that Canada is a more civilized county. I've lived in both, and they both contain elements of uncivilized behavior.
  15. The rule has since been revised... Accounts can now be deleted, all that you need to do is request an account deletion using the same email as you registered with. Send requests to [email protected] If you delete your account, all postings, etc will be deleted, along with any account related information (profile photos, personal messages, etc). There is no reversing this decision, so please be certain this is what you want. Thanks!
  16. Nostalgia mostly. To be honest, when I changed the name and moved everything over to the new domain, I wanted to try to resurrect the old educational features, and see if I could find enough money to update them and start producing them again. However, I believe that time has past, and it may be time to split the forum off from the rest of the content. There are a number of very popular features that are still as relevant (and factually correct) today as they were 20+ years ago - the one on the Not Withstanding Clause, etc. So I might migrate the educational feature back to the original domain, and move the forums over to the root domain, repolitics.com.
  17. It can be slow on the weekends, but post a few more times and you'll be a full member in no time.
  18. Sorry, didn't read the title of the thread before answering above. You can post an avatar AFTER you become a full member. So just keep going, you'll be a full member shortly.
  19. @Americana Antifa, all new members need to make a few postings before they are elevated to full member status. This is a anti-spam measure, and we hope that you understand. Your most recent posts have been approved, just keep posting and you will be elevated to full member status shortly. Thanks!
  20. To stop spammers, I have to manually approve the first five postings of each new member of the forums. To reduce the workload, and to improve the speed at which these new members are approved, I'm looking for a few volunteers to help out. The work load is ridiculously simple. You just have to review the moderation log, from time to time, and approve any new members who are not obviously spammers. And if a spammer does managed to "fool" me (or any of the new spam catchers), then all you have to do is mark them as a spammer. If you're interested, send me an email here: [email protected] Any questions, please post them below. Thanks!
  21. Sorry about that Deluge, busy work. You should be good to go!
  22. You’re correct, my mistake. It was @Rebound that claimed August was a “Russian Plant” I’m sorry about that.
