Brenda Martin's Mother calls out PM Harper
Drea replied to darthsmall's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
"Personal Chef" That's what she said, she was her employers "personal chef". How dubious is that? Very, IMO. Has anyone checked her credentials? Is she an actual chef or just some woman cooking for some crook? Did she sleep with her "employer"? Did she also do windows? "personal chef" my butt. -
If a man has no say whether or not a woman aborts he should not be on the hook for child support if she decides to keep the child. It is her decision and she should take full responsibility for it. What about the poor guy who doesn't even find out he has a child until months or even years later? What about the fathers who never get to see their children? Should they have to pay? IMO they shouldn't. If a woman denies access then child support should be stopped. (unless he is abusive or a drunk or druggie or otherwise harmful to the child). Ultimately birthcontrol is the woman's responsibility as she is the one who gets pregnant. Ultimately it is her decision alone whether to keep it. The guy is just a bystander really. All he can do is pray that she is a nice person and won't take him to the cleaners for the next 18-20 years. Sadly, that is rarely the case -- many men never see their children but are forced to pay exhorbitant amounts of child support to vindictive women.

This is what I said: This line is in reference to the "art", not the abortion itself. Sorry Qwerty, but from you post, it sounded like you didn't realize that it was the prolife society that put up the photos of aborted fetuses on billboards. My official bra-burning-feminist-nut squashing stance is: It is a woman's choice. Abortion should be limited to the first trimester except in extreme circumstances. If a woman decides to keep the child she should inform the man. If he is unwilling to be part of the child's life, he should be free to not pay child support.

Members Only Healthcare - preventitive healthcare
Drea replied to pfezziwig's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
There is public health care, then there is public insurance (in Canada we have public insurance paid to private doctors). There is nothing wrong with public insurance paying for private clinics/hospitals as long as we never go down the road of "private insurance" we will be fine with privately owned hospitals etc. The private insurers are the bad guys -- they get to say if they will cover you for such and such treatment. As it is in Canada most treatments are covered no matter what. Even a skiier can get physical therapy covered even though it was his risky lifestyle that caused the condition. Same with smokers, fat people, etc. We are not penalized by insurers by having a "certain" lifestyle. Just watching "Medium" last night and they could hardly afford to take their child to the optomistrist. I took my son six months ago and it cost me $90. Also, the star of the show had some kind of fainting episode and her husband freaked because he had to spend $500 for her to be checked out. I never want private insurance to deny treatment. I would rather pay for the odd "unnecessary cosmetic surgery" than find out some poor sap wasn't covered because he was "high risk". -
Isn't that the truth! Without healthy competition in life people don't learn how to go after the brass ring -- they think they are "owed" it. When I was a college student they were handing out Visa cards ($500 limit) so I got one... took me about six months to use it the first time, but no time at all to rack it up to $500. It took me a long time to pay it off, but it was a good learning experience. I am just thankful it didn't have a higher limit or who knows how far in debt I would've gotten. Still, I had no one to blame but myself... the bank didn't force me to get the credit card after all.

Household financing needs to be taught in schools. Not just one course in grade 12, but ongoing throughout school starting in the primary grades. Money management is fundamental to our society, yet it is not taught... No one is "out there" teaching people how to be financially responsible. Usually one learns it from their parents and if their parents were lousy with money management, chances are they will be too.

It's always somebody else's fault it seems. But we've raised a culture of parents who don't know HOW to chastise their children, so they don't. Ever. And this type of thing happens and the parents can't blame themselves (they followed Dr. Spock after all, so how could they have gone wrong??) or their kids, so they blame everyone around them.

I had a 1975 Honda Civic and could drive it back and forth to school everyday (25 miles each way) for two weeks, not to mention skipping out and driving around all day...used to cost $13 to fill it up, this was in 1981. Ethanol is a bust -- we can't take food and use it for fuel... There are electric vehicles but they are not affordable nor mass produced. Exactly. I can't see how those living rurally or in small towns are supposed to afford these higher prices, not to mention the cost of shipping their groceries and the cost to heat a home in the dead of winter... We installed a wood burning stove and I expect that many more people will as well.

It's nice to know I am doing something for my fellow Canadians. Thanks for the "kudo"! What would you suggest that salespeople do? Any viable alternatives to offer? And no, riding a motorcycle, bicycle or scooter is not an option, it's pouring like a biatch out there! Now, if they made an affordable electric car (under 15 grand) I would buy it. If there really was a problem with "carbon".... alternatives would be readily available. "Reducing carbon" is just a money grab pure and simple. People who live in apartments should subsidize those of us who don't with higher taxes IMO. You want to live where you can breathe in your neighbours stink? Not me thanks very much

As a "salesperson" I HAVE to drive. I drive an 03 Grand Am. Test drove an Austin Mini, hated it and it doesn't get much better mileage than my current V6. I don't want to live in a chicken coop either (good one Borg! ... and not only that but those in the chicken coops won't even let me smoke, so f*ck 'em! I will drive the biggest badass car I can find -- my coworker just bought a Charger and she loves it. What gives anyway? Back in the 1970's a small car would get 50-60 miles per gallon (Chevette Scooter, Honda Civic,Toyota Tercel for examples) but now they tell us that 30mpg is grrreat.

You don't get it do you? Pro-Choice is FOR abortion Pro-Life (should be called Anti-Choice, imo) is AGAINST abortion The Pro-Lifers are the ones who put up the offensive photographs hoping that it will stop a woman from aborting. I think it's a terrible idea personally. But as I work for them (they contract me) I get a sign built that says whatever they want. Even though I don't agree, it's not my place to say whether they are right or wrong and lose a big contract!

How many criminals grow tobacco? How many criminals distill spirits such as vodka or rye whiskey or rum or gin or even beer or wine? Very few. Have you ever thought of why criminals are not involved in the production, sale and distribution of these substances? If butter were illegal, criminals would have cows.

Who do you think puts those pictures of aborted fetuses on billboards? I do a marketing campaign for a pro-life society... and *surprise*! they are the ones who put the pictures there... but of course you knew that, you just like stirring the pot -- and that is why no one ever takes your posts seriously.

RCMP raids Tory party headquarters
Drea replied to Shakeyhands's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Have you: Got a roof over your head? or are you living in tent city? Or squatting in an abandon home? Food in your belly? or are you and your family eating out of garbage dumps? A job to go to? or are you living off food stamps with no hope of finding work? Ever visited a doctor for free? or did you lose everything in order to pay your medical bills? Turned on a light? or is your electricity so "sporadic" that you don't know if it will work from one day to the next? Internet access? or are you limited in the information you are allowed to access? Breathe clean air? or are you walking around with a hanky on your face just so you can breathe? I get a kick out of you who hate this country. You have nooooo clue... Like a spoiled child who cannot be happy with what he has, he just wants "more". Indeed Canada is not like any other country. And that is a good thing. -
Can't be! The nasty buggers abort 50% of their fetuses (the female ones).

Brigitte Bardot on trial for Muslim slur

just an aside question -- does anyone know if the *cute baby sealmeat is wasted or eaten, and by whom? Veal is cute too, especially breaded... *not against the sealhunt... just use guns as it's more humane -
You are fighting against socialsim and liberalism so why the concern that immigrants are not "improving the social fabric"? You are now being wishy washy... Either you want rightwing immigrants (religious, intolerant rule-sticklers) or you don't. Which is it? If you want more "regular" (read European) immigrants then you will have even MORE leftwingers (Europeans are more left leaning than Canadians for the most part).

Leafless -- how do you know? as there are no written records of prehistory, how do you know? The evidence suggests that women were not equal but revered as the makers of life. We do not know for example, if women were hunters along with the men. It is not recorded one way or the other. And I truly think that children were not raised by "couples" but by the entire community... this would free up mom and dad to hunt, build, gather etc while grandma, grandpa and the pregnant aunty and this disabled uncle would watch the kidlets. The notion of "couples" and "ownership" of humans are new concepts in my opinion. Back eons ago I doubt if anyone cared who fathered a child as long as there were children being produced, it made no difference if mom and dad were a couple or not.

What difference does it make whether he is "Catholic" or "Muslim"... you both worship the same invisible entity... just have a different "doorway*" to get there. *one says Jesus, one says Muhammed -- who is to say who is right or wrong? How stupid is religion again? I just don't understand how a person can believe in an invisible entity and at the same time, not believe in the same invisible entity with a different name? There's this guy in my house, he calls me "Hon" -- there's this other guy there too, he calls me "Mom"... Am I two different people? -

Come on warbike! Just admit it -- you think he's.... get ready... you ok?... scared yet?... Obama is.... the .... ANTI... Christ! Of course, on the other hand, he could be your saviour... how are you going to tell? What if the decision you make (whether he is the antichrist or the saviour) and get it WRONG!? What then? Hellfire and brimstone for you forever baby! Hey I always thought I was the antichrist, the antiallah, theantigod, the antizues, the antisanta -- what a guy that Obama -- stealing my thunder, why I oughta... go shake his hand. -
There is an easy solution to the booga booga about Sharia law and polygamists... religion should never play a part of regular life. Keep your religion in your church, out of my government, my schools and out of my life. And let's educate (no, really educate them, not just "read this pamphlet") newcomers (and some oldcomers) that women are equal citizens in this country. Religion is why women across the world are treated like crap.

Ontario Seeks "More Diverse" Prayer
Drea replied to kengs333's topic in Provincial Politics in Canada
I'm sorry Qwerty, I shouldn't have slammed you from the get-go... for all know you could be a moderate centrist... But it doesn't sound like you are... "leftist wasteland"?? Why do you consider it such? Are you out of a job? Was your church forced to close it's doors? Were you forced into a gay relationship? What exactly makes our country a wasteland? Tell us -- point form will do... what exactly is wrong in Canada in your opinion. Please provide specific examples, not just generalizations like "leftist wasteland". Thanks in advance. -

Gawd and Jebus help us -- another one... *sigh* 1. Young people don't watch the CBC. My grandfather used to watch -- I always considered it an "old" person's station. 2. Old laws out -- new laws in... and your problem with that is what exactly? Which laws that have been shelved would you like put back on the table? 3. My son is currently learing algebra, biology (the study of DNA) and Shakespeare... 4... and your kids are learning that the earth was "created" in six days... of course you did mean that they go to private religious school yes? Or do you have momma stay home and teach them how to bake cookies? welcome to the forum Qwerty. .. you may or may not like it here. Cheers! Drea -- the resident atheist, feminist, teen girl defender!
