  1. Fox News is kicking ass. They regularly exceed all the other networks' ratings, and all CNN etc. can do is call names. They really are out of touch, instead of moderating their leftwing approach so as to improve their ratings they instead get their knickers in a twist. Typical.
  2. I was talking to a guy who had a career in the prison system. He says we haven't built any substantial new capacity in our prison system since the early eighties. If a per capita crime rate stays static, then criminals will have grown in numbers by reason of our population growth since the early eighties, which has been substantial. The problem judges have is our system is at capacity and they can't give prison terms unless there are openings in the system through parole or completed sentences. We need additional capacity, it's as simple as that. And this 'theory' that prison time doesn't reduce crime is short sighted to say the least. When the car thief is in prison he ain't stealin' cars! Building more prisons will not magically transform us into the American system. Why is it every time some liberals object to something, whether it be budgets, medicare, pot, and now our criminal system, they trot out the America boogeyman. Scaremongering tactics add little to the debate.
  3. Of course Saddam's going to say it would never come from Iraq, but can anyone remember the attempt on Bush Sr.'s life which originated in Iraq? A little consideration of past actions can help one determine what Saddam is capable of.
  4. Then maybe you should vote Democrat Z, but I'd say your reading material is a little shrill since the Dems do pretty much the same thing. All Heil Hillary...
  5. Nope, MSM is MainStream Media, or the vast majority in the media industry. They tend to marginalize any media outlets that don't do as they do.
  6. Clapping for yourself? Whatever turns your crank.
  7. Maybe you should take a gander at some of the rabid fans that follow professional sports. They are indeed cult like. In Europe, some of these twits actually have riots in the stands during the games. Painting themselves up, yelling and screaming when their team scores, freaking out at a missed call, these 'fans' are actually quite more rabid than any christian I've ever met, and I've met a few since I am one.
  8. Around here libs were saying how the Torys with Harper could never exceed around 30%. Now that they have, let's raise the bar to 40. After they scrap the gun registry and cut the GST, I bet they'll start flirting with 40 since the Liberals are a long way from doing anything except expressing 'shock', as Martin was quoted as saying regarding Emerson today. Yah, after he wooed Belinda away, sure thing buddy.
  9. Correct me if I'm wrong, but are these 'new' pictures from the same story of the previous scandal that was reported on continuously last year? At any rate, here's yet another Mainstream Media Moment: The mild cartoons poking fun at Mohammad have been strictly off limits for the North American press since they were concerned they could offend some and cost more lives. Yet last night on TV in living colour, the newscaster barely was able to spit out the words announcing these new photos and wham bam, they showed several of them. No concerns about saving lives or offending people when a chance to embarrass the Iraqi war effort comes up. Take note, those of you who can think objectively, our media is trying to shape our attitudes and thoughts, not just give us the news.
  10. This all just boils down to bad timing. If Emerson had crossed six months from now, only the die hards would have their knickers in a twist. It was bad timing when Belinda did it as well, a day or two before a vote to down the government. But this is a normal part of Canadian politics, Emerson is an opportunist just like Belinda is, now she's running for the leadership of the liberals after running for the tory leadership, what, 2 years ago? And guess what, after all the knicker twisting in her riding, they voted her back in as a liberal. Emerson may get the same treatment.
  11. At any rate, we'll be waiting a good long while before this shows up on the main stream media. Now if Harper and Layton were to go hunting, that would be covered with 1/2 hour updates!
  12. I saw that whole 'news' piece with my wife and we both groaned repeatedly. We were hoping to see some actual news, but now they provide news lite, with 10% actual news and less filling! We change the channel often during the news hour, looking for actual news.
  13. I saw Ezra during the supper news hour last night. CTV gave him and a Muslim representative about ten minutes with the newscaster interjecting questions. Ezra made valid point after valid point and sounded far more reasonable than the Muslim, who at one point dared the Western Standard to print a biography about Mohammad. Ezra informed him the WE was a news magazine and these cartoons were news since they were the cause of rioting in Muslim nations, but Mohammad wasn't. Ezra is no wind bag. Another valid point Ezra made was the efforts that Muslim radicals were making to have free presses in Western Nations follow Muslim will, not free will. He also pointed out that Syria and Iran, the two countries with the most demonstrations, both forbid public gatherings. This means it's obvious that these governments are orchestrating the protests in their countries! There is a hidden agenda, and the peoples of these and other countries are being used to force the hand of the United Nations, who is now making noise about resolutions banning certain behaviours deemed intolerant of religion. Too bad they don't have the cajones to ban violent demonstrations!
  14. Bubber, maybe you should look at what you're posting. I don't know how you managed to do this, but you've got sort of two threads started with the same title.
  15. I noticed, Durgan, you're using Vanity Fair as a loose source. Just FYI, but they are not exactly a bastion of objectivity when it comes to politics in general and Dubya in particular, although I've heard of the U.S. military's difficulties lately as well. And don't expect the U.S. to be starting new invasions anytime soon. Iran might attract some bombing runs, however, although I wouldn't count out Israel on that one since they did the same thing to Iraq back in the early eighties.
  16. This is the way the political game is played in Canada, and it was done by the rules. However, it was not done with the best judgement, they could have made this play 6 months after the election instead of 2 weeks. Personally, I don't see the benefit of one Liberal crossing the floor, it's not like it changed the balance of power or anything. Liberals who want to cry foul over it should remember how pleased they were about Belinda crossing when it saved the government from a downfall.
  17. After all, both Martin and Chretien are Catholics and the media gave them a free pass on their religious affiliation, for the most part. Canada seems to have survived the experience, although we got a little banged up with all the scandals. Obviously, a person's character is more important than religious affiliation. I think Harper can eclipse their scandal ridden records quite easily.
  18. Nope Bubber, no one was or is judging or being self-righteous here, we are just discussing a difference of opinion on some scripture. Rather boring to most I would suspect!
  19. No, it was not okay for Lot to do that. He was trying to save the angels that were in his house from the gay mob outside. And the response of the mob was telling, they did not want the virgins at all, they wanted the young men they had seen. For those who would like to know, 1 Corinthians 6:9 speaks against fornicators, idolators, adulterers, homosexuals and sodomites. (NKJ) There is no difference between women or men homosexuals in this text. This is why many religious people are concerned about gay marriage.
  20. I know where Clinton stands on it because he waxed politically correct on it in the last couple of days. He came out warning against prejudice instead of condemning the threats and violence of the Muslims. My point is there is much more free speech allowed to Muslims in this case even when they are threatening violence and bombings, both illegal. Prove it and I will admit my fault, but it's not bipartisan, it's horse trading.
  21. So how come Bill Clinton can't see what all these papers you refered to can see? I'd pay money to hear Westen liberals criticize Muslim actions without immediately warn of the dangers of intolerance towards Muslims. The day Svend Robinson criticizes their actions is the day I eat crow. You sound like a moderate Yank, but do you really think you'll see the day when Hillary can talk like this? After all it's liberals like her that came up with the idea of frisking old white ladies at the airport and asking leading questions about their nail clippers. Conservatives wouldn't think up strategies like that. That's why liberals bad - conservatives good.
  22. The Danish PM expressed alarm yesterday concerning the continuing and growing anger in the Muslim world about 12 cartoons depicting the prophet Muhammad with such details as a bomb in his turban. Last September these cartoons ran and then were republished last month by a Norwegian magazine. The response has been quite silly. Flag burnings, protest rallies, boycotts, threats to Scandinavian nationals living abroad, bomb threats and the like.(Oh, and they've been burning pics of Dubya too, like he had anything to do with it!) In response, Denmark has evacuated all its nationals from the Gaza strip and recommended that those in the West Bank also leave. Some evacuations have occured due to the bomb threats, and thousands of Palestinians protested for a second day. A Danish/Swedish dairy corporation has been hit worst by the boycotts and has shut down production of its products in Saudi Arabia. Muslim law(?) forbids any illustrations of the Prophet and I guess doing it 12 times puts you in a special 'hate' category. Never mind that they are protesting some of the wrong nations for what a newspaper printed with freedom of the press. And Bill Clinton, that liberal bleeding heart, said on the matter recently that Muslims need to show tolerance towards those who don't follow Muhammad and realize in the big picture it won't change anything to have a few illustrations floating around. Ha! Of course he didn't say that, he instead warned against anti-Islamic prejudice and compared it to anti-Semitism.(Like the genocide of 6 million is about equal with some cartoons) When will a liberal speak against anything Muslim? Not in your life time. Don't you see? It's the newspaper's fault for causing this, not the Muslim fundamentalists' fault for hate, intolerance and threats of murder and war over some silly pictures. Of course when those of the Christian faith show concern over movies depicting Jesus as a lusting adulterer or whatever he was in the Last Temptation of Christ, then the liberals can criticize faith groups, but when it happens to Muslims, no one criticizes their much more violent response. Total hypocrisy. Anyway, here's a link: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/europe/4567940.stm
  23. How about this: Do major digging on the topic before you develop a theory on what might have happened, or else your research will be pre-biased to accept some info and discount other info.(Or am I too late)
  24. Ah, but what about innocent until proven guilty. Let's say the wife reports the abuse and a court date is set. Only in some cases will the husband be ordered to stay away from his wife until the case is heard. Even if he is, and certainly if he's not, how many men who beat their wives are then capable of threatening them or slapping them around a bit to make sure they get their 'story' straight. Even an idiot will put up with some abuse rather than report it and risk a hospital visit. Then again, Muslim woman believe man is the master and they are not equal anyway. (By the way, you must hate your president to presume his guilt like that) I think Styen has a point about multiculturism. France's experience with Muslim immigration shows the type of problems that can develop.
  25. Come on! If Saddam actually got rid of WMDs all under the UN program, then why would he continue to play game after game with the UN during most of the 90s as they tried to inspect plant after 'palace' after factory. That is until he kicked them out outright. If he had nothing to hide he wouldn't have been hiding anything from the UN inspectors. 14 UN resolutions were ignored! Hardly a man with nothing to hide. It also was widely reported at the time that during Desert Storm Iraq flew many of their best fighter jets to Iran rather than get them shot down by the superior American pilots. The possibility does exist that they sent a stockpile of WMDs elsewhere rather than have them discovered, whether Bush Bashers can see it or not.
