Judeo-Christian Ethics; The Gift That Keeps on Giving
sharkman replied to jbg's topic in Moral & Ethical Issues
Yes, but one needs religion to stop doing what is wrong, and do the right thing more often. -
And you presume their study has no merit, because of it's findings. Just like those who are attacking them on this board and elsewhere. I won't bother to show you discussions where proof of persecution exists of such scientists, merely because of their findings.
-
Well, the usual hissing from both sides of the issue, but I would like to follow the scientists who came out with this study to watch their funding dry up, their GW colleagues attack them and environazis scare their children.

I noted with interest the response to this comment, the point being that an 8 yr old can't give consent. This is short sighted and misses seeing the forest for the trees. What about a twelve yr old. In Canadian courts today, a twelve yr old can choose which parent to live with if they are divorced and have been passing the child back and forth. If a child of 12 can make a decision of that magnitude in the eyes of the courts, why can't they give consent for sex? The answer is no, they shouldn't be allowed to, just as 5 years ago, most people would agree that poligamy is wrong and degrading to women who become pretty much servants and property. But in reading the variety of opinions on this thread, it appears that common sense is not so common. We are going down the road that gay marriage started us on, and where we end up is anyone's guess. Thirty odd years ago, abortion became legal in Canada. We have travelling down that road for a little while now. We are living in the age of the gland in the year of the pill, and Canada has a massive shortage of babies. They are closing elementary schools for lack of children. Yet we blindly refuse to see anything wrong with this picture, and instead jack up the immigration numbers to compensate. We really do deserve whatever fate we get.

Liberals attempting to silence opposing opinions
sharkman replied to B. Max's topic in Federal Politics in the United States
AM, did you understand what my comments meant? YOUR phrase, " as far as I know", was not absolute. Plain and simple. You were stating that Soros MAY have donated without your knowledge. That is all I was pointing out. The fact that you did not know for 100% sure. I feel bad that you went to all of the trouble to dig up all of those names. Now we know beyond a doubt what the official word is. -

Meanwhile, there was another recall, this time concerning lead content in paint. Mattel had the offending toys manufactured in, you guessed it, China.

Christian Fundamentalism in the US Military
sharkman replied to cybercoma's topic in Moral & Ethical Issues
Yes, their main goal is to scare the Hell out of the enemy. -
I was thinking that something wasn't right in the Moral and Religious section, but I just couldn't put my finger on it, and then I saw this thread, and all was right in the world again. Kuzy has introduced her anti-christian thread for the week.

I think it's always slower in the summer around here.

Let met guess, Scott doesn't know what he's talking about either? You've been using that response an awful lot around here and it's getting a little obvious you don't bother much with explanations. You're not a one trick pony are you, trotting into a thread to point out you're the smartest in the room? How about some actual data to back up your arrogant attitude, or be taken as a flake.

July figures for Palestinian Casualites by IDF
sharkman replied to buffycat's topic in The Rest of the World
Ah yes, the 700,000 or more the left squeezed and skewed out of reality with their SURVEY based count. I'll say this for you buffy, you took your suspension like a man, unlike figleaf, who moaned and whined. Good for you. -
U.S. Presidential Elections 2008
sharkman replied to moderateamericain's topic in Federal Politics in the United States
Tell that to the 'truthies' who are convinced that Bush stole the 2000 election. I don't think they realize if Nader hadn't run, Gore would've won. -
What nonsense is this? We don't bomb their cities flat. If you are so unable to view world events as this, the rest of your post now makes sense. We go to great lengths to avoid civilian casualities and infastructure. This in turn gives the terrorists the bullet of killing their own civilians and throwing them in the bomb craters for the western media to go into shock over. The incarceration bit was only a one time only thing and done with idiots who want to blow up citizens to get their 72 virgins. Them or us. The prisoner abuse was illegal and those responsible were sentenced. How about The Sum Of All Fears? Or the latest Bourne movie. Both were based on books that originally had Muslim terrorists as bad guys. Hollywood doesn't fear them so much as love and respect the terrorists. And did you not see the rage the Muslim world went into when the cartoons were exposed? If the Christian right had power there would be no abortions, or acceptance of the gay lifestyle. Stores would be closed on Sundays and churches would be full. How many Christians have been banging at your door in response to your christian rant? What, none? They must be waiting to beat you over the head with their bibles when you get outside of course. Ditto with Israel. You obviously don't know it, but there are a few on this board who rant against Israel over and over and over again and again. They haven't been silenced, and abuse those who differ with them. Perhaps the West is more reasonable than you seem to think.

Just curious but did the Liberal Party of Canada
sharkman replied to fellowtraveller's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
They may be able to pay back the money, but they will never be able to repay the trust that was lost. -
To explore the orginal question, That China is investing heavily in her military when she has little in the way of threats is telling. As China grows stronger, the temptation to begin swallowing up small countries under the guise of rejoining her people or some such thing, will prove unresistable. The takeover of Taiwan, Tibet and others will threaten to make a cold war hot. The UN will draft sanctions. The earlier expressed fondness for the time when 2 superpowers caused economic competition forgets that the world hated that particular state of affairs. People lived in a state of nuclear fear, and this fear drowned out many good things in our societies. And since China has shown a complete willingness to rip off and steal whenever it proved beneficial, ( ignoring patents, pirating music and movies, reverse engineering technology) as well as a manufacturing sector that cuts corners to make unsafe products and foods, I think it is possible to expect when China replaces Russia as a superpower it will not be an improvement.

Scott, I happened across a quote that I'm finding rings very true on these pages. It's by George Jonas at the bottom of my posts. What do you think?

U.S. Presidential Elections 2008
sharkman replied to moderateamericain's topic in Federal Politics in the United States
I haven't heard anything officially yet, but it looks like Ralph Nader is going to run again in 2008 as a green. If it happens, this would make a Republican win more likely. I don't think America would put a woman or black in office yet. -
Overpass Collapse in Laval, Quebec
sharkman replied to August1991's topic in Provincial Politics in Canada
I agree with you, but it will become a war of sorts before and during any bridge and overpass upgrade, and here's why: Environmentalists will view this as politicians and corporations trying to use this issue to increase capacity on our transportation grid. They will not stand for it, and in canada, where protesters willfully excercising civil disobedience get a handshake from our justice system, said environmentalists will be chaining themselves to machinery, bridges, and anything they can. As many know, environmentalists do not want one inch of pavement added to any roadway in Canada. They want the worsening traffic situation to force people out of their global warming cars and into mass transit. Any such thing that is seen to put off this will be met with force. In the lower mainland of B.C., there is a plan to twin the Port Mann Bridge, thus doubling it's capacity, something that has been needed for about 15 years. There has been much sabre rattling over the very thought of it, and it will be a litmus test as to the willingness of the environmentally PC crowd. I know this is beyond merely making present road infastructure safe, but it will be seen as the same thing by the tree huggers. -
You question other posters' point of view with your comment, "who here knows what they are talking about?" Then you get in a snit when yours are questioned?

July figures for Palestinian Casualites by IDF

LOL!!! -
I don't presume to know what was going through Hitchen's head with the specific usage of the word 'we' in a sentence. However, one shouldn't draw conclusions about someone without looking at their entire body of work. A couple of months ago, Hitchens wrote an article that denied the existence of God and provided much reason to high five among athiests. Maybe you read it, I believe it was discussed on this forum.

deleted, I don't think I can add anything to this discussion.

Sooooo, this must be how the Iman's are getting members of their flocks to hate the West. Demonization and perception management. Although I'm puzzled at how liberals in the West are falling for it. Couldn't help but notice how you responded to some criticism, kuzy. You wrote post after post after post. Four posts all by 5am. I'm beginning to wonder just what it is you do at night since you don't seem to sleep. Nice Hitler reference, but a little boring, I'm afraid. Since liberals having been referencing hitler so often, it's begun to lose it's effect I'm afraid.
-
Kuzy, this is where your skewed perceptions I was talking about earlier come into play. You can't find even one story about a Muslim kook that you: 1) Are not completely suspicious of, finding high levels of B.S. in every story 2) Can usually be found criticizing other religions, while finding no Muslims at fault in the story in question. You do mention that there are Muslim nutjobs, but you just never seem to find any in the many threads on this board. This is why I suggested you need to read a wider scope of material.
