Good topic AW, I agree with many of the comments. I don't know if Canada has learned from American mistakes or not. It seems to me like a new couple wanting to avoid the mistakes of their parents in raising a family and then finding a whole set of their own mistakes to make instead. Canada, in spite of what you've heard around here, is no better than the U.S.

Universities will provide Muslim footbaths
sharkman replied to jbg's topic in Moral & Ethical Issues
Yes, and I suppose the students who want to wash their feet could just 'get over' it. Not really. And despite what you may feel, it's not unreasonable for some to feel concerned about this mixing of church and state. Again, they could wash and pray at home before school then after. If Allah can't understand they are in a land of infidels who don't have footbaths everywhere, maybe Allah needs a time out. -
Universities will provide Muslim footbaths
sharkman replied to jbg's topic in Moral & Ethical Issues
Nonsense, it's about the State providing for a religious ritual. The separation of church and state is being ignored in this case. It's not about safety, that's just window dressing. Why can't these students wash their feet at home, or in a student shower facility. -
Obviously because of the propensity towards violence and non-peaceful protest by a number of them. Plus, the number of orgs. (CAIR and ACLU) who go to bat for them. It appears that we are inching towards Sharia Law, a little bit here a little bit there, as we cave in to more and more demands. That is usually where appeasement over time gets us. It gave us WWII. Analyze the Western Media's response to the Muslim Cartoon controversy, and you will see why we now are at a place where they are considering providing a place for Muslims to wash their feet in a public place before they pray.

LOL! I often find myself laughing to your sharp wit and this one about the figleaf was just perfect.

Worldview of the 'Rapture-Ready' Christians
sharkman replied to kuzadd's topic in Moral & Ethical Issues
Overall I am entirely disgusted with alot of religious "going's on" MY disgust at these "christians" is IMO, don't get offended, they are more reminiscent of "satanists" then christians, striving for war, instead of peace, division instead of cohesion. Kuzadd, if you want to learn about a group of people, you are going to need to do more than read expose's by authors who have an axe to grind. By only reading about Rapturites or some other sects, your perceptions become quite skewed. However, if this makes you happy, by all means keep digging up these stories from fringe websites. -
So, about this new moderator, any critiques or suggestions so far? I am wondering if they read all posts or just some sort of scattershoot strategy. Or is it just the same old same old reading complaints of reported threads. Things do seem more polite, if strained around here.

Liberals attempting to silence opposing opinions
sharkman replied to B. Max's topic in Federal Politics in the United States
I just want to point out that you are stating as fact something that you are guessing at, in regards to what Soros has given to Moveon. I will not offer up a guess, and admit I do not know. Don't kid yourself, Moveon speaks for liberals like the Pope speaks for Catholics. And Moveon would LOVE to see Fox silenced. Come on, this is just the first in attempted murder by a thousand small cuts. -

This is not starting another club. This is the State providing for religious rituals for one specific religion in a state run institution. Open your eyes. -

Why should they adapt to your culture, why shouldn't you adapt to theirs? Because they are the ones who decided to live in a foreign country, that's why. Good grief, if a campaign was started to provide prayer rooms in libraries for Christians, separation of church and state would be the cry. How does this not cross that line? -

Yes, yes. I think we're all aware of Muslim nutjobs. However, apparently not everybody was aware of this bughouse loco element among Christians. Which is what we're having this nice thread to look into. It always grates on my nerves when one of the usual suspects interrupts a thread about Muslim extremism with some completely unrelated example of a Christian kook. I now find it equally grating to see someone attempting to derail a thread about Christian extremists with some completely unrelated chatter about Muslim kooks. -k Well hopefully the grating won't be too arduous. I don't remember you objecting on any of those threads when said suspects interrupts a Muslim thread to slag Christian beliefs of one kind or another. I believe you hold Christianity in low regard, do you not? At least those 'nutjob' Christians who gathered up some of you kids in the hood for a bible study or something. At least you hold all religions in disdain, which is different from some of those around here who can't find a Muslim terrorist who isn't misunderstood. And can't find a Christian belief that doesn't somehow threaten the world. But what's new. -

The religious who believe in a rapture are far less kooky than those religious who believe God wants them to kill Jews, infidels and fly planes into buildings to receive God's reward of 72 virgins. Blowing up one's body seems to be the theme, and taking out as many as possible. -

They say a picture is worth a thousand words, what a stark difference. -
Sad Rue. Once again you have descended into hysterical name calling. I was describing what was said in full view of the cameras and broadcast around the world by the BBC. I actually thought it might be a hopeful sign. I know it's tough when you are foaming at the mouth but try to stay rational will you, Rue? Of course, when it comes to whining for Israel, nobody can hold a acandle to you. Higgly, your bias prevents you from seeing hysterics in action from the anti-Israel crowd on this forum, but can we all avoid the personal attacks? Personally I take a wait and see approach to this news.

Barry Bonds is a complete joke, and not the kind of publicity baseball needs.

I think leafless means that he does indeed log in, and find a thread he wants to post in. In the past he's had no problem, but now if he takes more than a certain amount of time, he gets logged out. Or am I missing something leafless.

sharkman replied to kuzadd's topic in Moral & Ethical Issues
Biggest laugh I've had in a week LOL!! Anybody who even causually reads the Moral/Religious threads or any single thread pertaining to Israel will know EXACTLY what your views are since you repeat your hatred of the Jewish state and Christians to everyone who will listen and some who'd rather not. Another week and another thread from kuzadd no doubt based on the latest nonsense from one of many hard left conspiracy web sites she obviously spends too much time on. Not that there's anything wrong with that. -
Your facts are out of date:http://www.sustainabletable.org/blog/archi...hilean_sea.html Your link seems to be possibly for and against harvesting the sea bass. At any rate, it is still a bad message for an Al Gore to be cramming his cake hole with a certain fish when it's only been recently harvested with this sustainability. Why not a variety that the environmentalists are not concerned of?

When death comes calling, so does Oscar...
sharkman replied to betsy's topic in Moral & Ethical Issues
There was a news story just recently where a woman went to get her breast checked out since her dog "wouldn't leave it alone". Yep, cancer. In the cat's case, however, it's possible kitty is a killer. A family friend had a cat that would climb up on a child's face during the night and curl up, partially suffocating the kid. I think they finally got rid of it. -
Liberals attempting to silence opposing opinions
sharkman replied to B. Max's topic in Federal Politics in the United States
Uh, starting a DATABASE on all sponsors in order to begin a strategized phone campaign of said advertisers is a tiny bit more than merely objecting to a marketing moniker of 'fair and balanced', For the third time, why don't liberals (who do you think reads Moveon, conservatives?) simply change the frickin channel if they don't like the bias, which is exactly what they tell conservatives to do when something objectionable comes on conservatives don't like? Expressing views is one thing, trying to stifle free speech is wrong, no matter who's doing it left, right or whatever. AM, have you been shadowing Soros that you know the amounts he's given to Moveon? Or are you just guessing? -
Liberals attempting to silence opposing opinions
sharkman replied to B. Max's topic in Federal Politics in the United States
But that is an attempt to shut up free speech!!! To actively pursue the sponsors of a station who's viewpoint you don't like in order to make them stop broadcasting. Good grief, it's as plain as day. I don't know if you saw my earlier comment, but it's also completely hypocritical of the left. When conservatives are protesting some lewd content on TV, the left always says to just turn the channel. Now that the shoe is on the other foot, the left will not simply change the channel, they want to shut down the channel Chavez style. -
You see, the CBCers are claiming a new even handedness, and no doubt the pointy heads there have been forced to tone it down a little. But under the surface, the leftist agenda is alive and well. That election comment is proof. I watch nothing from the CBC and will continue to do so until the day they change. Although I have been known to listen to Stuart McClean.

Some things came to mind as I read this thread. Considering taxes only when looking at the poor is missing most of the picture. In Canada, one of the wealthiest countries in the world, being poor is many times the result of some vice (drugs) or mental problem, not taxes. Being poor is also often a state of mind that is completely defeatist and dependant on the government welfare cheque. A person needs to work at that Taco Bell, they must start somewhere, find a type of work that interests them, get some education, and off they go. The minimum wage job is an entry level job, not one that is to exist on. Lowering the tax rate on 8/hr won't give them the money to buy a mortgage. I know of a true story of a single mother here in B.C. She raised her two boys in the sixties and seventies, when single moms were looked down upon. Scraping by, somehow the boys were able to go to school, and now 30 years later one is a leading economist and the other is the premier of B.C. The human spirit has much to say on whether a person attains much.

Fig never was banned. No one banned Fig. Fig banned this forum. All this nonsense was from a suspension. There have been many suspensions before, but this one is undoubtedly the whiniest.
