Oh, indeed. The U.S. will likely become Cuba's patron - the defunct Soviet Union dropped their financial support with the fall of Communist ideology - that is what made the island an economic basket case. (digress) Federal transfers were 14 percent of PR's GDP in 2024 - triple the U.S. average and above Mississippi's 10 percent. Fairly certain Trump's geo conquest of Cuba tho has little to do with ideology, humanitarian concerns. Cuban-Americans represent roughly 30 percent of Miami's population.

Ground Invasion of Iran?
John Stone replied to paxamericana's topic in Federal Politics in the United States
................ let Iran stockpile reserve - who cares. The ability to EXPORT is where the power lies (leverage). Today, as we speak, Iran is exporting oil.............. making a $$$$$$$$ -

Ground Invasion of Iran?

Kharg is Iran's oil export facility - the country's economy? Trump's bombast about destroying the facility is madness. -

Occupy Kharg Island - not destroying it - destroying it is madness. Occupy Kharg Island and you achieve two objectives - retain Iran's economic base and .......... use the occupation as a bargaining chip - u control supply. Of course that's assuming Iran doesn't destroy it themselves - possible! -
Ur assuming a democracy will replace the current communist regime - that is quite likely Trump's stalking horse. So-called 'experts' believe the president's tactics are likely more about creating business opportunities for American companies - exploitation, than about toppling the communist regime of Miguel Diaz-Canel. ala' Batista 'Until Castro, the U.S. was so overwhelmingly influential in Cuba that the American ambassador was the second most important man, sometimes even more important than the Cuban president" / Smith-former U.S. ambassador to Cuba. Trump's game plan for Cuba would likely resemble Venezuela - regime remains, sock puppet as President. Cuba is likely heading back to what it was before Castro, under Batista. Russia today is RULED by oligarchs - not politburo.

................ suppose it could be argued that the U.S. government no longer trusts the U.S. government - Congress is still whining about not being informed regarding the attack on Persia - going to war! lol. ............. this whole constitution 'thing' - separation of power ................ etc, is just turning out to be a norm. -
Americans Pretending to be Canadian
John Stone replied to TreeBeard's topic in Canada / United States Relations
............ Americans covertly masquerading themselves as Canadians when travelling abroad is quite popular. As is white Americans masquerading themselves as black - Still laugh recalling Rachel Dolezal, the white woman who represented herself as black for years and headed a local chapter of the NAACP in Washington state. Or white Americans masquerading as indigenous ...Elizabeth Warren (a Senator), aka Pocahontas, fessed up to falsely claiming she was of 'American Indian' origin. -

NGO's are good for the economy ................ ransom pays well. Haiti is, without a doubt, the poorest country in the Western hemisphere, Poverty amidst the hemisphere of opportunity. -
The Quebec political establishment says there is 'no social acceptability' for pipelines - Quebec has imported a 1/4 billion $$ in foreign oil since 1988. Blanchet says he strongly opposes any pipeline from Western Canada through Quebec to the Atlantic. Blanchet claims it would sacrifice the prosperity and undermine the sovereignty of Quebec Quebec is always, Canada last - duh - in what manner would it serve Quebec to promote National unity. Quebecers are facing major decisions - the possibility of a referendum on sovereignty is higher now than it has been in decades - this with Canada facing a potential existential economic threat. With a Provincial election in October - the PQ is expected to win handily - the leader of the PQ has stated that if elected he promises to hold a sovereignty vote. Were the Brits too magnanimous - post Plains of Abraham?

Unconditional surrender is when a party ceases resistance and submits entirely to the victor without negotiation re: promises or assurances. The surrendering party has NO leverage - no negotiation. I doubt we'll see anything like what occurred in Tokyo Bay, Sept 2nd, 1945 aboard the USS Missouri? Yes, the initial objective was recovering the 'yellow cake' and enriched uranium We'll see and I wish 'em luck - hopefully the attacking force knows exactly where it has been distributed? Surprised the idea of a dirty bomb or a 4th protocol hasn't come up. In any event a gun-type fission weapon is nuc 101.

Who is debating whether u need to show I.D. The debate is whether more stringent demands could be demanded by the state if permitted in statute. In Kanada would the requirement to bring ur BC or Passport be too stringent a demand as a condition to vote?
