Japan 1945? Avoiding a Iran Ground War: Drop the bomb
John Stone replied to August1991's topic in The Rest of the World
Japan was facing cultural genocide Russia was a non-factor in Japan's unconditional surrender. During WWII, Japan's military leaders played a crucial role in Japan's government and military strategy. Post drop, Japan's Emperor, Hirohito, made the decision to agree to the American demands for unconditional surrender, despite the military objection - the military was definitely prepared to continue the struggle on home turf. Hundreds of thousand would have died. Russia was taken completely by surprise when the first nuc was dropped - the war ended very quickly. With their development of nuclear weapons, the U.S. for several years was without a doubt the most powerful nation on the planet and remained so for several years. With the power they wielded NO nation could have stood against them. -

Most European Jews resided in eastern Europe, with about 5 1/2 million Jews living in Poland and the Soviet Union. Before the Nazi takeover of power in 1933, Europe had a dynamic and highly developed Jewish culture. To paraphrase, they were citizens of those countries.

re: how outclassed and pathetic the US is when it comes to big power geopolitics. The U.S. was responsible for rebuilding Europe / Japan , post WWII. The global economy is a product of U.S. design - granted, they have been the greatest beneficiary but that's moot. The U.S. was responsible for the defensive organization NATO - kept GLOBAL peace for 70 plus years In terms of Canadian defense, global voice? Nah, don't want to go there. The World would not be what it is today, warts and all, without the U.S. leading the way. Be grateful. BTW: The ME was shaped by colonialism - collective colonialism. That and the impression Europe had of the region, post WWI ............... 'bunch of WOGS'

It is mystery as to WHY the President decided on the so-called, 'war of choice'. Common knowledge as to what approach works best with the, man-who-would-be-king. Is that it - personal stroking?? The rumor is that Lindsay Graham and Marco Rubio (SecState) groomed Netanyahu on the proper approach with Trump - very clear that Trump likes to associate himself with those he perceives as 'strong', 'powerful'. But the US is the senior partner? The President had (always) had the option of saying, 'NO'. Trump talks like a child ............ lets hope he doesn't degrade to babytalk. There is no question that Israel could have pursued this war alone - most (all?) of the tactical and strategic targets in Iran were the result of successful IDF attacks. I in no way condemn Israel - they have real concerns - I don't blame Netanyahu for utilizing every TOOL. Israel has no concern re: global market. In some respect they likely believe it's payback to said, 'world' for the disregard they paid Israel since the recognition of their State. When will the excursion be completed? Soon? Why the additional 200 BILLION funding request???

Of course. The commercial viability of fracking made the U.S. a non-renewable energy giant. A heavier grade would have been pure manna tho.

Amusing to think the 2nd largest country on the planet has traditionally had governments that are cavalier concerning defense ....... tactically ............. or strategically in terms of sovereignty. Well, the chickens are coming home to roost........... The CPF have point defense weapons - mainly surface to air and anti-ship (Harpoon). The chain-gun (close in weapon system) is largely autonomous and deigned for destroying fast moving air contacts (engage at 1k yards) on an intercept course.. stream attacks would defeat it. ...........as it would the illumination radars used for designating targets for the surface to air (AIM). Most detection radars today are of the phased-array design ................. it has been said that in 10 years with the commissioning of the new(?) Surface Combat Ships, a similar detection system will (might) be employed. In close quarters the CPF escort itself could be used to shield the tanker-target; akin to what the Brits did in Falklands to protect their capital ships. Canada has out-dated mine sweeping capability - those ships are primarily Reserve vessels............. ignorant domestic fodder.

Tail wagging the dog? Israel is a regional superpower As such it can (has proven) definitely defend itself tactically and strategically What it lacks is global political defense - for example a Nation running interference at the U.N. - traditionally that has been the job of the U.S. - no problem! Israel has legitimate defensive concerns - they are lethally capable - and easily project power in the region. Oct 7th was the perfect justification to take the gloves off - they did and continue to keep them off. What could be better than to have a superpower actively complicit in your defensive / offensive, strategy. I respect Netanyahu a great deal - right man for the job, no question. The question really is, senseless rhetoric aside, why did the dog allow the tail to wag it.

......... arguably if the Canadian Constitution is ever opened for debate it will be made official. Does Quebec really have unchallenged language laws? Oh, forgot, notwithstanding clause. oh, Canada. -
.............. believe these are the same weapons introduced into the USAF decades ago.

North America is an oil producing giant. Absurd to think that the Continent can be held hostage by fickle events occurring in the Middle East. .......... not a stretch to consider it a threat to National Security for all concerned. Might be time to make at least US / Canada immune by looking into a state owned venture aimed specifically at domestic markets.

Проблема в том, что иностранные инвестиции могут быть осторожными — как только Квебек станет нацией, правительство может национализировать отрасль. -
Common knowledge that the U.S. is the largest oil producer in the World. With that a 'given' why is the U.S. vulnerable to rising oil prices and more specifically, rising gasoline / diesel prices? Are the majority of domestic refineries tooled for heavier grade crude and not the sweeter grade from shale? Heavier grades originating from Canada and Latin America? Ur point of blended crude is well taken.
