The really important point is that under a king, you're not a citizen but a subject of the king. That is controlled by having a costitutional monarchy. Ours is an odd mixture- the King is had of state but we passed the citizenship act in 1977 to make us citizens. But monarchy - antithetical to Americans since 1776 at least.
