  1. so in short.. no matter who wins, the losing side will whine, complain, riot, march, and be the epitome of a sore loser. Welcome to modern American politics.
  2. yes, I am stating the obvious. The sore loser act is now a permanent part of American politics. No one ever just loses.. no, it was rigged. No matter the office or race, we have to complain about losing and have recounts.
  3. I am not so sure that it is as cut and dry as the OP likes to think. We live in a different world than 30 years ago where bank fraud was executed in an entirely different manner. Today.. all they have to do is know your email address. They do not have to know you in any way, be near you, etc. Hackers or other nefarious actors operate in the shadows more than ever. So some collusion between banks and government agencies is going to happen while we navigate the ever changing landscape.
  4. I think that some are so far removed from actually being a university student that they think that the majority of students are majoring in sociology, gender studies, or social work. My alma mater, Boise State's, most common major is accounting. Next up is education followed by nursing and Business Administration.
  5. History shows that there has been some sort of government censorship (explicit or not so explicit). However, today's version is quite mild. If you say something on facebook and they delete.. you have dozens, hundreds, or even thousands of alternative outlets. Will you get quite the attention that you would with facebook? Maybe not but you are not being barred completely from expressing your view.
  6. my usual approach is the higher the stakes, the greater evidential threshold. Jaywalking... probably do not need a crystal clear video showing the who, when, what, and how. In the case of trump, if I was the prosecutor i would have to have a "smoking gun" or very close to it. Circumstantial evidence is not good enough for myself. Do I like Trump? not even a little bit. But from a cold, strictly legal perspective... there are a lot of filling in of the blanks on these charges.
  7. If Biden wins.. the internet will be flooded with garden variety conspiracy theories. There will be a riot or march of some kind. Not sure of when or where but the sore loser can't be contained.
  8. I will agree with some that these early results do not indicate the end result. its still early. Its fun to speculate based on the early indicators but we will know the true picture by late Sept. Kleenex is in line to make a killing in November. Between the start of cold/flu season and the losing side crying continuously.. seems like we should be buying their stock.
  9. I would support making MIB's an on demand practice. You would have to request and therefore... in a defacto sense, clean the database. If I request one and give all my information, it should overwrite my existing entry and therefore minimize the chance of multiple entries. Another proposal that I would make is that for two weeks after.. have the micro data available not just finalized numbers. Micro data would be the voters name, address, and all of their selections. Of course, would not make this publicly available but the Secretary of State would produce this upon demand. At present, you have to prove malfeasance without the micro data. That is nearly impossible. If a candidate gets 13,455 votes but you do not know the composition of that number.... how would you know if a dead person voted?
  10. San Francisco... a lesson in priorities. Basically, it is NIMBYism at its best. Downtown is full of very wealthy, young, affluent types who really want nothing to do with the homeless. As a result.. there are few public bathrooms, no shelters, and they have no plan on how to deal with them. Why do they come to SF and not somewhere else? Money.. These rich folks in SF have more money than what they would encounter in Sacramento, Vacaville, etc. As for the police.. they are simply inundated and so focusing on someone defecating in public is of lower priority than traffic accidents, robberies, assaults, and so on. In Reno, we tried being relaxed and understanding but that proved to be a faulty strategy. The homeless camps started encroaching upon parks and private residences. All in all.. the city learned that you have to prioritize keeping this in check.
  11. The only real issue with MIB's in Nevada is that one is added to the voter registration the instant that you apply for a drivers license or permit and are age 18 or above. They do not clean this database.. nothing nefarious. Just a simple matter of budget priorities. They would rather allocate the funds to the leadership positions than lowly database management. So what happens.. a person can be in the database multiple times. Different addresses, different spellings of their name, moved away and came back(which happens often in Las Vegas), or they get citizenship and therefore have a SSN instead of an ITIN.
  12. My prediction is that Trump wins this time around. If he does, well then he does. My life will be unchanged. As for buying anything from a politician.. I guess whatever makes you feel warm and fuzzy. Your purchase of a Bible from him will make you feel good but it really will not impact his life all that much.
  13. The mail in ballots will be in use this time around. In the past 2 elections, he led in the polls early on and then come election time lost narrowly. The main reason... Clark County. it is also the same reason that election deniers lost. In the other 16 counties they led but then Clark County is brought in and the strong blue lean is factored in.
  14. But I vote.. so not exactly doing nothing. We do the right thing.. we take of ourselves. However, I love that you had to move the goalposts. This is why I find ideologues like you so disingenuous.
  15. See.. you can do some simple math. I do vote and so know that my impact is miniscule. I also know that any donation that I would make is going to make only the most miniscule impact. Its simple cost vs. benefit. What gives me the most DIRECT, repeat DIRECT, benefit for my money... spending it on my family or giving it to a politician? So that you do not get off topic like the typical biased, partisan type.. DIRECT means immediate, tangible, and recognizable.
  16. At least in NV.. Trump will lose yet again. The reason is Clark County or Las Vegas. The population growth is firmly centered on the younger and therefore more liberal crowd. Also, a lot of the new population is both young but Latino/Asian/Black which tend to vote Democrat. The rest of the state is growing but far less than Clark county. The other 15 counties (washoe county or reno aside), only account for 8% of the state's population.
  17. Lets do some math... In NV, there are 1,933,056 registered voters as of January 2024. That number is going to increase as we get closer to the November election. My one vote is 1/1933056. My one vote accounts of .0000517%. Now.. how many elections connected to NV have been decided by one vote? One.. it was in the 1930's. yes, I do vote but my impact .0000517% is far less than my impact to my family's physical, emotional, financial well being.
  18. one does not provide for a family by looking at the aggregate. I care not if some random stranger is doing well or not. I control my fortunes and that of my family. I do not control governmental decisions.
  19. My single contribution is not going to be the deciding factor... Its mathematically impossible. Besides, I care more about myself and my family than politics. It appears that you are of the opposite view.
  20. I work with them and so know them intimately. They do not need my money. My money is better spent on my family.
  21. What is hilarious is that a lot of the news/stories that CNN and other sources post/report comes from the same source.. the Associated Press. Hmm.. so even if one does not watch CNN, the information that they read/watch will be mostly the same.
  22. Yes. According to certain types on here.. if you read a novel written by someone in a communist or previously communist nation.. that must mean that it is communist propaganda. And furthermore.. that must be why I am reading it. Dostoyevsky and Tolstoy are not light reads BTW. However, if one can put their bias aside one can glean why Russia was ready for a revolution in the 20th century. The seeds of discontent were already there.
  23. The Bible is not necessary for a moral or productive life. It should be a matter of choice what books one has in their house. At the moment, I am reading, "The Id10t" by Dostoyevsky. The more ignorant types would think this is proof that I am communist. However, if you actually read the book.. you would know that it has almost nothing to do with politics and zero to do with economics.
  24. I have not and never will donate money to a political party or a politician. Buying a book from Trump or any other politician is none different than putting money in a slot machine. Both are akin to simply throwing it away.
  25. what you conveniently leave out is some explanation. It is not just simply faulty morals. That is too convenient and almost impossible to prove. How about social media and the Internet? When I was in YMCA basketball in 1987... no one in the school knew that I never scored a single basket all year. Today.. that same reality would not be such a secret. Growing up in the pre-internet days, you left the school world at school. When you went home, that world ceased to exist or close to it. Not anymore. You can pretend that this is not the reality but your acceptance of reality is not needed.
