  1. So then lets ask.. how did the internet change things? First, for example if you were trans/gay/whatever in 1983 and you did not live in SF, LA, NYC, or Chicago.. you generally kept that to yourself. There was no open community for it in most places. Now.. the internet. The internet allows you to express yourself and in such a manner that there is no consequence. Yeah. so person xyz in Fargo, ND saw your profile or what you said on FB. You can keep scrolling them, block them, etc. If I was gay and wanted to find a group of like minded individuals, the internet is full of them. When you get a bunch of like minded individuals together and in a space where they have no dissenting views.. they embolden. And so on down the road.. they decide to enter the public realm and politics. Lastly, the internet has definitely helped the slow, steady campaign to have their way of life gain greater acceptance.
  2. if we were to compare the total number of 2 and 4 colleges and universities to those having protests associated with this.. the number would be very small. There is no database so my guess is as good as any.
  3. precisely. Hence why I get so very tired of him being the lead story. Seriously.. he is not that interesting.
  4. You are free to complain to your hearts content.. and I am free to not. See how that works? Its not a 1st amendment violation to complain about it. Clear enough? My stance is that society should free to produce such content and the members of society should be free to like it or not. I do get the impression that you would support legislation that would ban "woke" content.
  5. wife and kids would not be as excited but would love to see Toronto, Montreal, Moncton, and Halifax. Reno is quite the place. Being 30 minutes from the Sierra Nevadas is amazing Back to the topic.. when folks think about international players in the NBA, they rightfully think France, Serbia, Spain, Germany, and such. Well.. Canada has proven to be in that company and more are coming. Zach Edey (Purdue) is another canadian that will be drafted into the NBA.
  6. Likewise.. most Americans will admit that NYC is amazing. Most being not the same as all. Plenty do not like big cities and all that come with it. Never been to Toronto but hoping in a few years to start branching out to the east for travel having seen the majority of the western US.
  7. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Canadians_in_the_NBA It is interesting how 30 years ago.. there were very few canadian nba players. Today, they are quite a few and Toronto has become of the more fruitful recruiting grounds. Just look at the current playoffs. Jamal Murray (DEN), Ben Mathurin (IND), Nickell Alexander-Walker (MIN), and Shae Gilgeous-Alexander (OKC) are key contributors on teams that will make the second round at least if not more.
  8. Your posts imply that I watch the woke content and therefore am ok with it. There are a lot of things that I do not like watching/listening but I am not going to support their being outlawed.. 1. old westerns 2. rap and hiphop 3. political news 4. soap operas. For the umpteenth time.. I have no problem with them being created because I can choose to not consume it.
  9. The first amendment allows for us to complain about anything. It also gives us choice. Disney does have the right to produce the content.. and you have the right to not consume it. I am not sure what needs to be rehashed. In short, I think it bothers you that I am not the duplicate of you. I should be adamant and outspoken like you. You are free to be you but I am not.. seemingly. Some twisted logic.
  10. I was looking at the entire time span given.. "80's, 90's, and such". So when viewed from 1980 to the present day.. yes, they factors I listed have changed our lives. I worked at a factory in the late 90's.. very little automation. Lots of manual labor. While it did close, I have been to its counterpart.. almost fully automated. The old crusty factory workers that I saw everyday are no longer.. at least not in this setting.
  11. I do not know about others but the campus that I visit often (university of nevada) has none of this.
  12. The unrealistic view then results in the supporters needing public funding or legislation. From there, the shady stuff happens. Politicians getting a cut, the supplier (wind, solar, geothermal) overestimating how it will cost, and all that comes with it. Prior to my time with the state government, I worked for a nonprofit whose mission was alternative energy. Those folks while smart were impossibly unrealistic. According to them.. the only reason that everybody did not have solar panels on their roof was laziness.
  13. Seriously.. you must be messing with me. The post that I responded to mentioned "80's, 90's".. There was no public internet in the 1980's.
  14. I do not know about Canada but in the US.. it almost always boils down to a mismatch between the dreams of the supporters and financial/technological limitations. Wind energy.. very high economies of scale. in short, one windmill is not going to recoup your cost. You need a lot of them and that is quite expensive. That is just one example.
  15. "threaten".. 1. First.. this is prediction. By responding to this reflexively.. one shows how easily duped they are 2. Trump's using this phrase is why I will never vote for him.
  16. Depends on the geography but yes.. mostly crime is not on the rise. Why? That would demand pages upon pages but I can say that Biden is not the reason.
  17. There are two ways to express your dislike.. complaining or vote with your wallet. I do the latter. I find it more effective. Money talks. However, your complaining is simply letting the market work in the form of word of mouth.
  18. what is with your types always making assumptions? You assume that I consume these "rewrites"... you would be surprised. I simply am ok with their being created. Who am I tell someone what to watch/read/listen to?
  19. "80s, 90s, 2000s, 2010s"... Come on now...
  20. I "put up with it" because I respect the first amendment. I allow for all forms of expression and let society choose what is popular or successful. As for my own preferences in music, movies, books.. generally steer away from overtly political stuff. For example.. I am probably the biggest music fan that you will ever encounter. My top 5 are 1. The Cure (completely apolitical) 2. Pearl Jam (mildly political) 3. Soundgarden (100% apolitical) 4. Radiohead (again, completely apolitical) and 5. Rancid (mostly apolitical)
  21. society changed.. that's why. Change does not denote progress/decay. The Internet, greater economic fortunes, population becoming more urban, and automation have changed the social fabric.
  22. Been watching the NBA playoffs and if you do not watch pre-game or half time ....nothing woke happening here. as the free market goes.. if they are willing to pay and the NBA along with TNT is willing to broadcast it .. then who is tell them that they should not be allowed to do so. Well... anyways hoping that the Denver Nuggets win tonight.
  23. in theory.. it sounds good to decriminalize drugs. If there is no black market then that takes the dealer out of the picture. Also, then the addict does not have the obstacles of being convicted and being ordered to pay fines and such. However, when this is attempted the results are not what theory dictates. The addicts that sought help before are the same that seek help after. Meaning that the legality of it does not change the person's motivation.
  24. probably should. If he was rational.. he would get the hint that I do not agree with him and never will. There is this definition of insanity...
  25. Everything written above is full of assumptions and purely subjective. Therefore there is no proving/disproving. Being wrong in politics is purely subjective. In short.. someone who does not give you affirmation is off topic.
