  1. I, for one, do not believe in human caused AGW. That being said... we received an inch of snow on saturday, may 4. That is not uncommon in Northern Nevada. Mammoth lakes in CA received 8 inches. We could use 8 inches of snow. Now the braindead drivers would disagree and make things way more interesting than need be.
  2. Took a history of the middle east course in college. What a muddled, bizarre story it is. Jews as a religion predate Islam. However culturally the arabs/berbers predate the modern Israelite by a few thousand years. This is not like one side is solely the aggressor and the other is simply sitting there taking the punishment. They have both attacked the other numerous times. The list of grievances is long for both sides. Having an established sovereign state of Palestine seems like the best solution if you want peace. However, neither side can agree to that.
  3. I love it how certain ones on here believe that the POTUS has full control of gas prices. They choose the price and everything falls into place after that.
  4. I truly do agree with the gay couple but find that legal action is not always the best way to achieve the goal. Legal action creates faux victims and galvanizes them. However, by simply going somewhere else and therefore not giving them your business and spreading the word... you do something far more impactful. Your other examples are a bit hyperbolic. Yes, if they lived in shoup, Idaho.. they would have no alternatives. But they do not.. I did a quick google search and found that they had dozens of alternatives within 30 miles.
  5. No, I would not have. Another aspect to modern politics that I thoroughly loathe is the faux victimhood. Yes, the gay couple were met with resistance but they could have easily have went elsewhere. If I was the couple.. I would not let one religious zealot ruin my day. I would have brushed him off like pocket lint, found someone else, and then wrote a negative review. The review would let others of like mind to myself know that he is not welcoming. That is free enterprise at its finest. The usual line is "I should not have to do that". The "that" is choosing an alternative. When I point out that they have a choice.. the indignation and whining is epic. You should not have to choose an alternate route to work but the interstate is closed going westbound so you can either figure out another way or sit in traffic and whine. I find that most people today prefer the latter. as an example, I have two websites (one political like this and one centered around music) that recently went live... I love the fact that I do not allow comments. I have the right to block trolls, hackers, and ignorant types.
  6. First, one does not have to register as anything. Yes, you register to vote but you can leave the affiliation blank. All it really does is let you vote in the primary for a given party. I made the mistake of selecting independent. It is a mistake for myself because I openly show my distaste for politics and by registering as an independent.. both parties flood you with pamphlets, ads, and folks coming to your door. However, folks like to register as republican or whatever as a virtue signal. Its like going out in public with a band t-shirt on.
  7. I will wait until late September to truly get a feel for who will win.
  8. You epitomize what I am talking about. No bother with fixing your own life.. elect the right politician and they will fix it for you
  9. unlike other issues in life.. survey data overwhelmingly shows that what folks wanted was for it to be over with. As soon as mandates were lifted.. it stopped being the lead story. The same occurred at my office. We went from producing a flood of covid-era data such as initial claims by week, continued claims by week, etc. to ceasing production in one week. When the mandates were in place, the unemployment insurance claim data was massive and front and center unlike non-covid times.
  10. in the modern world. no one takes personal responsibility. Instead.. just blame it on management at work or politicians.
  11. You can adjust to the price. Spend less, get a better job, work more hours, etc. Largely one's predicament is based on one's decisions are the deciding factor. I know.. i need to join the modern world and start blaming politicians for everything.
  12. When I have been in a rough spot financially.. my first finger point is not to the president. I guess.. I am different on that front.
  13. I would vote for the following... have every cabinet dept trim its budget by 1% every year for the next 5. The second item is that use or lose it grant funding would cease. To have where someone can request less funds one year and more next year... and so on would trim the budgets greatly.
  14. There are few certainties in life. However, some of them are the sun rising, taxes, death, and violent conflict in the middle east. This current round will simmer down after awhile and then in a few years.. it will tick back up. Lather, rinse, and repeat.
  15. I would fully support major spending cuts and some loosening of regulations. Some regulations are needed just to nip a problem in the bud before it gets out of control and folks "demand answers". I have no issues with oil/gas extraction and mining but they should not be allowed to pollute at free will. We have all sorts of issues in rural nevada where the water is either unusable or close to it. Fracking would decimate that limited water supply and exacerbate the pollution issues. The real issue is that we inflate how important they are. Folks correlate their person fortunes/outcomes to whose in office. Their life sucked during Obama's time.. there can only be one reason for that, President Obama. When the right person is in office, their personal fortunes will magically change for the better. They were making perfect decisions the whole time and its the sole fault of the president as to why they drank too much, smoke too much, ate too much.
  16. It boils down to ego. they have folks like robosmith and WCM touting them as saviors. This gives them inflated self worth. As a result.. they have to keep spending in order to keep up the facade of being some hero. Cutting the budget, folks losing jobs, projects getting shelved does not help that image
  17. Another reason that conversing with you is a waste of time.. you have no idea that the word, "best", is subjective. Again, there is only one acceptable way to view that word.. your way. Well. I am out of patience.
  18. You are a terrible poker player. The inclusion of this word tells a lot about your personality. It tells me that there is no "dis"-cussion with you. You want to tell us how we think and how we should think. No answer is going to satisfy you.
  19. nobody can be truly impartial. You have to care about something. However, I do not belong to either party and register as an independent. So generally when I view a topic.. I have no party line to agree with. I come up with my views on my own.
  20. Ok, so then you get the point. No matter my beliefs about the LGBTQ community.. the right of the business to refuse service trumps that. Its a matter of core economics.. if the transaction is not voluntary then the supplier vs. consumer dynamic that you learn in microeconomics falls apart.
  21. if you must know, I fished it out of a book review on amazon. There was an amazon politics forum from 2003 to roughly 2014. I kept getting banned because I like folks similar to WCM get to me. Well.. i ran out of names and found this one in a book review. In short, I respect the right of the business to refuse service above all. Do you?
  22. No.. he fails miserably (much like all of the others before since Nixon) to ease up on the spending.
  23. candidate most likely to win in 2024 is not the same as best candidate possible.. I know that's a tough distinction for you to make.
