As always, your bias gets in the way of you responding coherently. The get a 4-year degree at all cost narrative was in response to the post-war era where a lot of society worked very hard but also had the bad back, bad knees, and such that comes with it. They wanted their kids to not be basically "washed up" by age 50 and unable to do a lot of things. The thought was that there would always be plenty of folks to do the cleaning of hotel rooms, cleaning of office buildings, landscaping, plumbing, framing, etc. It is not an achievement to be raised middle class and then end up in landscaping or repetitive factory work.. or at least that was the narrative. The tide started to turn in 2010 (data backs this up) when my generation started complaining (rightfully so) about student loans.

100% off topic. Thanks for proving that you have not the intellect to stay on topic. 100% off topic... nice try but I am not taking the bait. Respond to the topic in a coherent fashion and we can chat. -

your solution assumes that other muslim nations would not come to the "aid" of Palestine and act as the rich benefactor for their war effort. Who knows.. they may agree to something now and then attack later. Folks can live in poverty for a long time if they have a crusade or cause they are fighting for so not sure that sanctions would change their view. If anything, it would create desperation and widen the gap. They lay claim to the land because the arab/berber population in what we call Palestine predates Judaism and Israel. -

Can you think of a solution where Israel exists and free of violence all the while palestine gets all of its demands met? The two seem mutually exclusive. Yes, most do not know about the region and if asked one year ago to this date.. would not know what you were talking about if you brought up the word, "Hamas". -

The list of grievances carried forth by Hamas/Palestine/Muslim world goes beyond just 1948 but it is a key part of it. A lot of their grievances have a root cause in the founding of the state of Israel. You should read the cities of salt trilogy. It gives a more intimate perspective on the greater Islam vs. the world conflict. No, it does not portray Westerners as the devil hence why it is banned in Saudi Arabia, Oman, Yemen, amongst others. -

its called staying on topic. the topic is israel vs. hamas. You created the thread and wrote the title... did you not ? It is hypocritical. Religious fervor does that. However, that hypocrisy is not going to change because you are critical. They are incensed for a variety of reasons... honestly. The list of perceived reasons is too long to list in a single post. -
this brings human nature into the equation. Ask yourself this, Do folks like perceived certainty of result and far ranging involvement? Or do they prefer gradual change which could or could generate a tangible result. The reason that societies bring government into the equation is that they think it will speed things up and that there will be some measurable result. This could be more perception than reality but that is the general mindset behind stuff like this.

automation does take away jobs in some situations. Probably for the best. No need to have admin and office staff that handle calls and paperwork when a computer can really do the job better. Now, after you have the system created.. you need staff to handle the inevitable oddball exceptions or errors. Folks like the low effort, repetitive, mundane, but very predictable job. We used to have 5 staff whose sole job was running reports and checking certain values manually. Now, my dept has 2 people in it. We run a script for the manual checking of values.

The reason 1200 is brought is because that is the earliest proven time where the residents of what we now call Palestine were majority Muslim. The point is not paint anyone as bad or good.. I know that you can't strip away your moral indignation from simple objective facts. I can say that the temp is 65 degrees outside and not be angry/sad/dejected about it. The reason that I use 1948 is because that when the state of Israel was founded and they were by force displaced. I would think that they get over it by now but that is not the case. Look at the history of Hamas.. when was it founded? Formally it was 1987. When did it informally begin? 1973.. All of which are after 1948. There is a reason that this group only comes into existence after the establishment of Israel. I do not personally care who is in the wrong.. israel/jews or palestine/arabs/muslims. first, I am atheist and so have no dog in the religious battle. Second, all I am saying is that this will continue into perpetuity and gave the reasons why. BTW.. I was talking about Israel not india. You show your lack of intellect and self control by always going off into the weeds. Its clear that you never wrote research papers or such. Lastly, if you find my posts to be so worthless then do what a rational person does.. keep scrolling. Nothing you say is going to change my views of this topic. You waste your time.. you know this so not sure why you continue. -
And then lastly.. patience. When it does not work perfectly after 4 weeks... relax. Lots of complexity and the constraints on processing power (or bandwidth in lay terms) come into play when you integrate it or connect to other databases. For example, our UI claims database in the past would have personal information (ssn, name, address, phone number) in one database and then the employer-side stuff on another. The connecting thread was a SSN in both. One SSN on one side and sometimes multiple iterations of the same SSN on the employer side... it got messy.
-
it was just an example. But anything where the client/customer has to input the information. City, town, name, address, phone number.. all are open for error. I have designed databases such as this. The usual constraint is time and money. It is costly to build in alternative choices and then test them.
-
My only advice to those in charge would be when you automate this process... build in some extra coding so that if someone spells Toronto as Trnto.. it does not stall out. An example would be "ifelse(Toronto %in% c("Tornto","Trnto".. and so on") That was one of our issues in UI in NV. When someone would misspell the name of their employer or their name... the file would basically freeze up and they would be forced to call into a call center. This call center was woefully understaffed. This occurred while we had a Democrat Governor. He was far from perfect but this was not his fault. The UI system and DB was instituted in 2005.. 11 years before he was elected.

I agree that there is no way that all 8 billion people can live the middle class American standard of living. Only so many natural resources. Once all of it has been mined and processed... what's next? As for this topic, less beef consumption and therefore less beef production would help the mostly arid west. Now.. would some be upset at their cowboy lifestyle becoming increasingly rare? yes. You can already see it in Eastern Oregon, Nevada, and Idaho. Places that were once basically ranch towns have become suburbs or have shrunk.

And in your bubble, you do not realize that the generation born from the late 60's to the mid 90's was told that they needed to get the "good job". There was nothing wrong with manual labor but the narrative was that the only way that you are going to make a comfortable living AND not end up with a bad back, bad knees, or bad ankles. To get the "good job", you needed a 4 year degree. The focus of your studies was only marginally important.. it showed dedication and ability to complete a task. Well.. around 2010 the younger generation started pushing back. No longer was the 4 year degree the only way to get the "good job".

Oct. 7 massacre was wrong. Israel reacts and depending on one's perspective takes it too far. However, look it from the larger, more general picture and ask yourself, "Do you see this conflict ever ceasing"? If Israel exists and the arab population stays in the area.. are they going to fight? Yes. There will be ups and downs, ebbs and flows, but this conflict will not stop. We can be morally outraged at Israel's aggressive actions against Hamas and the arab population. It will cease in time but then guess what? Hamas will counter attack and this starts up again. -

You are correct. It appeared as if it would be acceptable but there are some factors that can't be legislated. First, the grudge held by the mostly arab population against the Israelis is always going to simmer under the surface. Second, they are resource constraints such as energy, roads, and water where Israel holds the upper hand against the Palestinians. This makes peace somewhat tenuous at best. Lastly, it is not just the Palestinians that have a seething hatred of Israel but most of the arabs in the middle east. So there exists a de-facto consortium amongst these. In reality.. the only way that this conflict ever ceases is that the Israels leave or are extinguished OR the neighboring mostly Arab nations are bombed into submission. -
What worries me about a Biden 2nd Term
impartialobserver replied to Deluge's topic in Federal Politics in the United States
Worry me? Not much. Life will carry on in my neck of the woods mostly the same. Housing prices have been sky-high since early 2015 so there is not that to worry about. The border... we do not get that many in comparison to others. The Isreal-Hamas conflict.. this conflict predates biden by a few decades. As long as there is no new stimulus payments.. inflation should simmer down. Price deflation is unlikely but we could see lower rates of inflation on the month to month or year to year basis. -
I would say that its not a bad idea what Gates proposes but I would say that his motivation is off. In terms of water conservation, it would help if we did not have as much cattle grazing in the arid West. Also, a diet less concentrated on animal proteins and fats would not be a bad idea. However, climate change... a bit of a reach.

I know that no one will do it because It demands reading long books and examining one's thoughts on a topic but the Cities of Salt trilogy by Abdelrahman Munif should be required reading for most. It is the Mein Kempf of the middle east. The devout muslims absolutely despise this. Why? Small spoiler... it does not paint westerners as the devil
