Toronto-Quebec City High-Speed Rail
CdnFox replied to 500channelsurfer's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
I don't believe any of that is true. I'm entirely open to being proven wrong but just saying those things doesn't make them accurate and I don't see any numbers or any studies or any even logical argument that strongly supports that In fact the most optimistic number I've seen, and it is optimistic, is that it might produce 36 billion in new gDP. But it's going to cost us 90. And we both know it they say it's costing 90 it's actually going to cost closer to $120 to 180. That's not good math for us And to top if off, it will ONLY benefit that very small region. A TINY number of people will benefit directly from this. So why am I paying for it? If it's such a great idea why aren't ontario and quebrec doing it themselves? Why do I have to buy them a fast rail system out of my own pocket as a taxpayer federally but ALSO have to buy the ferries my province needs?!? To me this just looks like more "liberals ripping off the west to buy votes in the east' again. -

That doesn't seem to be true EAST HAWKESBURY, ON, March 31, 2026 /CNW/ - Canadians have not granted a clear mandate for the $90 billion Alto high-speed rail project, according to a recent nationwide survey (Abacus Data, March 19-24, 2026). Only 25 per cent of Canadians strongly support the project, and one in five remains unsure. Support for the project is strongest in Ontario and Quebec but declines in the West and Atlantic Canada. Forty per cent of respondents said the Alto issue would influence their vote, while 46% say it would have no impact. An Ontario citizens' association that opposes the project, ALTNO, commissioned the survey and says it indicates support is lukewarm. "The survey suggests that high-speed rail is not a top priority for most Canadians," said ALTNO member, Kathleen O'Connell Renaud. At best support is lukewarm and I think the more people think about it the more it goes down not up -
Sure. Whether the Iran adventure was necessary or not, it's playing out as an unforced error that leaves an opening So far the dams don't seem organized enough to exploit it though. We'll see what happens Ask your suppositions anything is possible. But they're just suppositions and not necessarily supported by any observable facts. So while they may be logically sound as far as an argument goes we just don't know the truth. We'll have to see how this plays out

Yeah, that's not uncommon for those with serious self esteem issues. Obviously you're deeply concerned about what i think of you or you wouldn't bother replying at all. This is just a very submissive way to do it that's emotionally lower risk. I guess you're what they refer to as a 'bottom' emotionally

Well, let's keep it real. You don't like the guy and there's a certain level of bias in your opinion with regards to that And fair enough. It would be the wrong of me to suggest that there aren't legitimate concerns or that things appear to be going completely smoothly that's for sure Regardless, the ticks are indeed tocking and the midterms are coming, and while it looks like the dems don't have their crap together either he's got to be looking to put this behind him pretty soon.

I doubt anyone is measuring uS based on that. There has to be a business case for it and I don't see one currently. And those two cities are actually very far apart, there are some countries that would fit within the distance between those two cities. I'm not above doing projects for the purpose of national pride and world exposure but I just don't see how this one is worth it -
I don't think it's a disaster just yet, although it certainly turning out to be negative for him It is attention has been on winning the midterms one way or another for a bit now But it will be interesting to see the reaction of some of the candidates who are running. They may feel that trump's brand is no longer a boost, they may not want him campaigning with them and we may see more of them running under the republican banner but not the trump banner. The problem for trump is that economic issues tend to show up 6 months to a year after whatever causes them happens, and about 6 months from now the impact of this war is going to really start to hit home if he hasn't got a positive resolution pretty quick. That will be just in time for the midterms which is not what he wants That's more of an opinion than fact. Polling suggests an awful lot of people do like his immigration policy and deportation policy whether you like it or not personally Where he is vulnerable is that he promised to get inflation under control and that hasn't exactly happened yet and people are a little pissed. The problem for the democrats is they're not really a credible solution to that so it will be hard for them to draw people away just based on that unless inflation gets worse

Amusingly it's actually hard to say. There really was no actual statement initially as to what the actual goal of the exercise was or what it would look like when it was completed or how long that would take. Their messaging has been all over the place, and people have made assumptions and run with it in several different directions but none of it is actually what the gov't has said. The gov't has now said they expect it to be over in a matter of weeks, but they don't say what has to happen for it to 'be over'. Mean while they're threatening to 'unleash hell' if their demands aren't met but we don't know their demands and presumably they're not going to take actions to harm the people, the defense of the people was one of their reasons for entering this war as far as we can tell. It's like this weird version of that old meme " feeling cute, might delete this war later IDK." Meh, that just sounds like regular war to me. It's been a joke in Alberta going back to the 70s that they are "one mid east conflict away from financal prosperity". Conflicts are inherently unstable and that serve nature. This doesn't feel out of control to me yet. To me out of control happens when the conflict starts escalating and more and more country start dog piling in and things are becoming seriously worse. This isn't really any of that, it's just regular war which always sucks produces significant instabilities The big question in my mind is what's his plan for getting his fist and foot back from the tar baby. Somebody somewhere has a plan for that but was trump's personal interference that may make things better or significantly worse and there's absolutely no way to tell sitting here looking at it from the outside

I don't know why but I found that outrageously amusing.

If you feel that way why did you participate? I mean given the title and the poster it was pretty obvious that this threat was never intended to be serious. So why come here and drone mindlessly about how this thread drones mindlessly? You like to pretend you're above it yet here you are wallowing in it Careful, your hypocrisy is showing again

I don't know how much that actually factored into his strategy. I think that was a popular bit of propaganda floating around that the population was desperate for this and to be honest they probably are desperate for the original shot to be removed. Which has actually happened. But I don't know that anyone in the administration actually believed that the public would rise up against the heavily armed military and overthrow them. And even if trump was dumb enough to believe that I doubt the Israelis were. Usually in these kinds of scenarios there have been discussions behind the scenes for the group that they hope will seize power within the existing structure. I mean if this people simply overthrow the government and take power, then there's nobody to actually run anything. This isn't medieval France, you need a strong bureaucracy to make your country run. So generally you want a group within the government who's willing to step in and take over and work with you and I'm not sure that that happened the way that they wanted it to. On the other hand I'm not 100% sure that it didn't entirely We will have to wait and see. I think it's fair to say that trump was expecting this to be over more quickly than it's going to be so something obviously went a little sideways but whether or not is recoverable we'll see. War rarely goes as well as everyone plans Sure why not Well I'm pretty sure they did blow up the Ayatollah as well Apparently they did a fair bit of that as well, but at the end of the day if you really want to take the country you need boots on the ground they don't seem to be intending to do that. So they must have had another resolution in mind

It's ok little guy WE get it

Getting your ass handed to you? I'd heard that about you but wasn't going to bring it up No, i'm translating. That's what you really mean when you post the same picks over and over, i'm just putting what you're saying in words Did you think we all didn't figure that out? You poor emotionally damaged little creature LOLOLOL Too funny

I also haven't made that claim. YOU Havent' provided any evidence trudeau and Carney don't sleep with children. Nobody's made that claim either but you seem to be just randomly making shit up anyway so ....

They're not military kiddo. This should be obvious even to you. They have ALWAYS had a vorverurteilen mandate and they're not part of the armed forces. THis is NOT new military spending. This is old spending relabeled.
-
Not really a war. It certainly a military conflict and you can sort of call it a war but it's a little too one-sided to be considered a war at this point I think, although it would meet the technical definition for sure But you haven't really made the case that the conflict is getting out of control. So far it does sound like they're pretty much in control militarily, and iran isn't able to significantly challenge the us in a military fashion.
-
That is how collapse happens. In an inflationary world no growth needs your falling behind and very quickly there's less and less money to actually provide services because of that You basically just admitted I'm right So in other words you've realized I'm right and you can't address the question so you're going to pretend to be intellectually challenged. At least I hope you're pretending Fair enough. I accept your surrender

If homosexuality isnt natural, why did god make gay animals?
CdnFox replied to CrakHoBarbie's topic in Religion & Politics
That can be a very real fear for people like you. All i can say is that facing the truth may not be the whole path back to good mental health for you but it is the start of the path. Give it a try! -

It's quite common for the left on this board to find those with real knowledge and rational reasoning powers to be a little frightening. We see it quite a bit, you're not alone in having an emotional crisis dealing with your own failings in that regard Maybe post the same picture over and over again for another 7 or 8 times... maybe that'll help -
It's not just the armed forces and military it would seem. It appears to be a collection of groups that provide some form of protection services to Canada, which INCLUDES but is not EXCLUSIVE OF the actual military. I suppose next he'll want to roll cops into that somehow. Maybe we could get to 3 percent! Oh look no link. big shock SO it's more than just the military. So the coast guard is not military. So there you go.
