The Democrat whining on this issue is seriously disingenuous. It is the job of the republicans to keep spending in check rather than in cheque. So - the dems should be negotiating an agreement over what the money will be used for. If you don't control the house - that is what the public has voted for. If they wanted no checks and balances on the dems they'd have given them a majority. Republicans on the other hand will have to justify why they feel refusing to agree to a propsoed increase is legit. Or the public will blame them. But rhetoric like "They're holding the poor hostage" is ignorant, and it's the kind of bull crap that leads to more instability and the kind of social unrest we've seen. It's low brow politics.

https://archive.ph/oxF8i Another clue that claims of a widespread labour shortages aren’t quite what they seem came in a Statistics Canada report last week that looked at job vacancies, which were 2½ times greater in 2022 than in 2016. There were stark differences in the rates, depending on a job’s education requirement. For positions requiring at least a bachelor’s degree, there was no general labour shortage. But there were a large number of vacancies for jobs that only required a high-school diploma, or less. For those lower-skilled jobs, there were many more vacancies than unemployed workers. Even if all those workers were instantly hired, there still would have been 131,000 vacancies in the fourth quarter of last year, for instance. It doesn’t cost much to post a job electronically, and automatic sorting reduces the administrative burden dramatically. Some of those vacancies may be placeholders. TL/DR - there does not seem to be a labour shortage when you get to jobs that require some certification or university skills. Unskilled labour jobs however are hugely unfilled. BUT - is that real? Employers are using temp workers instead and may be putting out 'fake' ads to either keep a supply of potential workers coming through the door or to swap out their weakest with better ones if one happens to apply. It's an interesting take on it - maybe the so called 'labour shortage' isn't quite as short as we thought

Still, i think you have to admit that after 302 years we may be past the 'trial' stage And lets recall that democracy as we know it is still comparatively new. So of course things like having a president or a prime minister (instead of a dictator such as rome or monarch) is going to be newer as well - but we still like democracy. Any political system is going to be terrible. THe old joke is that democracy is a horrible way to govern people with it's only redeeming quality being that it's better than all the other ways So the goal is to have something that is the least imperfect. In short - we want a system that makes everybody equally unhappy. There are definitely tweaks we can do to our system to make it better. But having a confrontational party based system has been doing fairly well and that kind of model requires a leader to be in charge of the party. Whether that leader is elected seperately (like the us) or by the party itself (canada party leadership races). And we WANT people clawing for that top position. That's how you weed out the weaker candidates.

@impartialobserver , here's yet another example of what i was talking about. You can't go for any time without it.

Appointed by whom? You see where you're going to run into a problem. So again what happens is instead of getting 3 or 4 people running to lead the country, you get 338 people trying to form power cliques and grandstanding to pressure whomever doles out the goodies to give the most to them. There needs to be a head of the party if you're going to have a party system and without a party system you have utter chaos.

Boycotting Schools Over Pride Events
CdnFox replied to Zeitgeist's topic in Provincial Politics in Canada
And they don't have to have pride parades. They can be gay or queer without them. So it works both ways doesn't it. They want to have them others don't want to have to see that and don't appreciate that children are exposed to it and that a big hunk of the city is shut down to accommodate it. And while the parade pays for some of the costs, the taxpayer still pays a hunk. So you're also footing the bill for it with your own money if you're against it. And then there's the politics. The gay pride parade people decide no police are allowed to participate and make a big stink about it. And the papers drop everything and talk about how terrible police are. Then it's the gov't - if a mayor or prime minister or political figure doesn't attend then the parade is turned into a political tool to bludgeon them and turn people against them. Oh no - whether you go or not the parade is affecting your life and your finances. But if you dare speak out, you're an evil homophobic bigoted mysoginistic alt right transphobe fascist nazi deplorable who should be left homeless on the streets. And people wonder why there's a backlash. I"m pretty pro gay - hell i grew up in Vancouver, you kind of have to be but even I'm getting fed up. -
Poilevre lobs nuclear bomb across the house of commons

Well the thing that's got to bug him is every time he tries to be 'clever' he winds up looking like an !diot. PP's ability to think on his feet is extremely strong. Both Scheer and O'toole had a problem with that and both got caught by questions during the campaign that they had no answer for (and should have known were coming) and it cratered them. Scheer got clobbered on the abortion question he had no answer for and erin on the gun question (and 'where's kenney') I suspect that things will go very differently with Pierre. -
https://twitter.com/therealkeean/status/1663993851114328064?s=46&t=cRwDAwEF-1fKEqCRPfhcJw As many will remember - Justin trudeau was accused of having had to leave his acting job due to 'inappropriate' relations with a student. Here PP shows his skill at the art of insinuation again This guy has the skills to win the next election.

It really isn't. I"m honestly not sure - it would be a tough one to beat. It's honestly why i've always preferred a Westminster system vs a republic.

It is necessary to have one voice to set policy and direction. the cabinets may make day to day decisions but that's all guided by a unified vision for the gov't (or should be). Its a little like saying why do we need a general when the majors do all the real work. The PM also does the appointing and that would be hard to do for the public. THe PM is like the coach of the canucks - he's hired to get fired some day It gets worse without a pm. Without a pm and the party whip then mp's are focused on their own brand and exposure. Nothing gets passed without it benefiting them, they'll look to grandstand and improve their own name, their fate is no longer tied ot the party. You'd get what we see in the US house and senate but a little less orderly. THe benefit of having one person in charge is that it keeps the others in line and there's one agreed upon vision and things get done. Harper wasn't popular but he lead us through a dark fiscal time expertly, That wouldn't have happend without a leader.

Boycotting Schools Over Pride Events

the problem is the culture and identity wars. People were fine with gays for the most part. The issue was settled long ago and even Conservatives made peace with gay marriage 20 years ago. But now suddenly it's all back in everyone's face, If you don't think men who think they're women should be allowed to compete in women's sports, you are an evil racist nazi homophobic degenerate deplorable. Unless you're a white male in which case you were all that already and now you're MUCH worse. And naturally when someone picks an unnecessary fight like that the other side fights back. And that's where we are at, -
Seemed to be pretty happy with the textiles, the metal tools, the firearms, the vastly more secure supply of food, the medicines and the seriously extended life span isn't such a bad thing i guess.

You overplayed your scotch. But i love that a guy who hates canada, has no honour, and hides behind justin trudeau thinks that pretending that i'm NDP would somehow make me WORSE than he is I dont' need to pretend what you are - you admit it with your own words. You're an honourless scudbag living off the benefits of a country you're not worthy to be a citizen of.
-
Right - because ndp'ers ALWAYS stick up for Canada. ANd you and Army guy are not 'all' the conservatives on the board. You're not even a conservative. Hell you're not even Canadian according to you So you have been drinking. As soon as you have to say something other than your prepared anti-canada script you sound like an illiterate !diot.
-
Oh are you done hiding behind justin? Well it wasn't working well for you was it. You've been clear. you have contempt for Canada. You don't believe canada is a legitimate country. you have no loyalty or respect for Canada, So renounce your citizenship. I mean why would you want to be a citizen of such a terrible place. Oh yeah - because you want to milk it for the money and all the other benefits being in this great country brings. Pathetic, A coward with no conviction or honour.

Of course it is. As i said - you were exposed the week before you left, you were exposed on the weekend, you are exposed now. It's constant. Just cutting a small timeslice and pretending it never happened outside of that is simply dishonest. Well if you CHOOSE to use it you're not bombarded - you're just constantly using something. Lets put it this way. Lets say your favorite cereal is count chocula. You eat it every day by choice, Are you being bombarded? No. Are you constantly eating it for breakfast? Yep. Now - lets say that a jehovah's witness shows up uninvited every morning as well and explains his view of the world to you. You don't like it and you don't want to hear it but he won't stop. Are you being bombarded constantly by JW stuff? Yep. Show me where i explicitly said you did say that. Anywhere. Go on. Very dishonest of you You said: There are some issues that are constant.. homeless people, dry climate, high home prices and some that are not.. trans people. You literally claimed that trans people are not constant. Compared to homeless people who are constant. Well - what do you think happens to the trans people? Why aren't they a consistant issue? Where do they vanish to? They're real people, they're there 24 7 just like the homeless. It was an ignorant thing to say. And lets get real - you known you've lost this so you're desperately trying to find something to be fake outraged about. Grow the f*ck up.
-
Well this would be more like someoen stole it from your grandfather and then passed it down to you eventually through many generations And interestingly enough yes - he would very likely still get to keep it. The current holder would have been deemed to have come into possession of it lawfully and not be at fault. Further - because grandad is dead he couldn't contest ownership. In canada if someone manages to forge the sale documents for a home and someone else buys it in good faith, they get to keep the home forever and the original owner is the one whos' stuck with the loss. You can buy insurance for that. That wasn't a great example for you was it
